So in the movie thread something was brought up about ETs and how it would be ignorant to think we are the only ones out there.  I for one agree, there has to be others other there.  This thread is dedicated to any opinions, questions, and videos that anyone wants to share.  The best series to get some good info that i know of is Ancient Aliens.  So if someone would post some cool stuff, lets have an interesting discussion.

Said series will be returning in the somewhat near future, with the always awesome Neil DeGrasse Tyson replacing Sagan.  I believe it's called Cosmos: A Personal Journey.  Tyson is America's greatest voice for science right now and I always enjoy watching and listening to him, so I'm quite excited.

 

There was an Ancient Aliens marathon on earlier today, I actually caught one I hadn't seen before.  While I reject a lot of their more outlandish ideas, like the Earth being an alien battleground, I think aliens have been involved in our history.  I refuse to believe civilizations in the past, like the Egyptians and Mayans, were capable of building the structures they built when we today can't do such things.  The recurrence of certain motifs throughout completely unconnected populations and the idea of ancient civilizations utilizing things they understood to illustrate what they saw (if that phrasing makes any sense) are both solid points as well.

 

Call me crazy, but I don't think we're alone in the universe.

I am very open to others being out there, because this universe is way too ginormous for us to be alone in it, but if they helped ancient civilizations, where did they go in modern times?? Did they just disappear all of a sudden?? Or did something happen regarding humans/aliens that made them leave us?

Alien civilizations must follow some version of the Prime Directive.  While in ancient times the people knew little and would just consider them gods, the understanding we grasp today would allow us to realize some semblance of what we're seeing.  I think there is a very real possibility that ETs were guiding our evolution in the past, making it necessary for them to become involved with us.

 

As to why we don't see them intimately involved today, humanity needs to rise to become an interstellar people on its own.  As it stands now, we are a petty and immature species incapable of ascending to the galactic community.  Until we mature and prove ourselves worthy they have no reason to make themselves fully known.

I personally believe in the "Ant Theory" which is, that we are not the only ones out there and that the aliens technology is so far advanced, that they have no reason to come here to earth. Where this theory gets its name- think of just a generic ant and how many millions there are in the world. Deep in any forest on earth, ants are everywhere. And we have absolutely no reason to go and look for every ant because there's just no point, we would gain nothing from it, but we know they're there. Aliens are like that with earth, they would gain nothing by coming and visiting us because we don't have technology, anything of great value, etc. They know we're here, they just just don't care.
