Who's Playoff Bound?

52 posts in this topic

I played the entire season for what's about to happen tonight in my big money league.

If I win, I go to the playoffs, if I lose, I am out.

I currently have a one-point lead in the week 13 game. I still have Steve Slayton yet to play, while the guy I am playing has the Jaguars defense. The Jags D will get 8 points as soon as they start the game. I have the tie-breaker so Steve has to score at minimum one point less than the Jags D. So my whole season comes down to:

Steve Slayton vs. the Jaguars Defense.

I have 3 teams. 1 @ Yahoo, 1 @ ESPN, 1 @ NFL.com

2 teams are playoff bound. (ESPN 9-3, and NFL.com 10-2) My yahoo team (9-3) im fighting to hold on to the 7th spot in an 8 team playoff bracket

ESPN Team
Starters: Kurt Warner, Matt Forte, Michael Turner, Chris Johnson, T.O., Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Tony Gonzalez, Ravens Defense, Ryan Longwell
Backups: Kyle Orton <_< , Willis McGahee, Vincent Jackson, LeRon McClain, Bears Defense, Chester Taylor, Matt Prater

I took a lot of crap from the people in my league for drafting 3 WR in the first 3 rounds but now who's laughing! Forte, Turner, Warner, Johnson were all steals really late in my draft. I took Ravens D and Bears D back to back and they gave me crap for that 2. hahaha All of my players are in the top ten at their position I have 3 players who are #1 . 2 that are #3, 1 each #4, #5, #6, #7, #8.

My NFL.com Team
Garcia, Matt Forte, Brandon Jacobs, Michael Turner, Chris Johnson, Thomas Jones, T.O., Randy Moss, Cotchery, Kellen Winslow, Bo Scaife, Ravens D, Bears D

My Draft strategy was to pick up a qb in FA, Go after the best 3 wr available in the first 3 rounds, Then I got Turner in the 4th, winslow in the 5th, Thomas Jones in the 6th, Bears D 7th, Jacobs 8th, Ravens D 9th, Matt Forte 10th, Chris Johnson 11th, Cotchery 12th. I play best match up week to week since all of my players are starters.

My Yahoo team is a deep roster league. 2 qb, 2 rb, 2, wr, w/r, w/t, TE, 2 D, 2 kickers, 2 DB, 2 D, 2 DL

starting lineup: Payton Manning, Tyler Thigpen, Thomas Jones, Matt Forte, T.O., Andre Johnson, Dustin Keller, Marion Barber (W/R) Vincent Jackson (W/T) Stephen Gotskowski, Jason Elam, Ravens D, Bears D, James Farrior, Demarcus Ware, Nick Harper, Yeremiah Bell, Kevin Williams, Shaun Roadgers
Backups: Ray Rice, Gus Frerotte, Reggie Brown, Duece McAlister, Chester Taylor

I have 2 NFL.Com and ESPN Im leading our whole fantasy group by 4 games and im beating the guy in this weeks game by 40 some points and he only has one to play tonight.
The only bad thing is theres to many inactive people....thats why im doing so well
This is my first year with fantasy and I had a bad team at first and it took me a while to get used to it... my record will be 11-2 later tonight.

It doesn't get any closer than this. I destroyed my opponent this week and I needed another team to lose to make the 3rd spot in my division. He was down 59 to 61 with Owen Daniels to play. Daniels has 25 yards but his bench scored more points which is the tie breaker putting me in the playoffs. Although I HATE my match ups next week...

Romo
Jacobs
Johnson
Slaton
Bruce
Royal
Keller
Bucs D/ST
Akers

Also my first year doing fantasy but I can tell I will doing this the rest of my life it makes watching games so much more fun even when the Ravens aren't playing as long as a guy is on my fantasy team I've never had more fun for 25 bucks over 4 months.

Whoo-hoo Slayton just destroyed the Jags. I'm going to the playoffs in my big money league.

Sometimes I just want the FF season to be over, so that I can go back to being a full-time Ravens fan and not get distracted by other games.

Slaton was a beast and I grabbed him off the wire early in the season he has been great for me. He and Joe Flacco have been great waiver wire finds for me. Next year I'm going to do multiple leagues and my #1 thing next season is BETTER RECEIVERS cuz mine suck ****** this year my best 2 are Eddie Royal and Issac Bruce (yeah that blows).

Receivers are definitely the hardest to find and so few put up good numbers week after week.

Eddie Royal is doing pretty well this year. He's getting plenty of looks. I drafted him in the last round of my draft. People thought I was nuts. I've been playing FF for 8 years know, so I do my research.

I won't draft a QB until late. I picked up Cassell, Hill and Orton off the waiver wire this year. Who all have great seasons, as long as I play the matchup. During the draft I load up on RB's and WR's . Because it's a long up and down season with those positions. I haven't drafted a defense or kicker in 4 years. I go week by week, and usually stumble upon a good D.

I'm currently third in my 12-team league with a 9-4 record and clinched a playoff spot last week.

I've had the good fortune of picking up a lot of consistent players who've never done me wrong (especially my receiving corps). Steve Slaton was the ultimate sleeper for me (I can't believe no one bit on him when I put him up on the trade block, just to see what I could get), and Eddie Royal has done wonders for me.

And I managed to pick up Joe Flacco early in the season just to be a homer, and it's paid off for most of this season. Plus, Chad Pennington was a solid pick-up, and I always go with him when I'm unsure of whether to start Flacco.

Yeah PuRock next year I won't draft a kicker or a defense because they are a crap shoot to begin the year and the picks can be used elsewhere. I drafted Romo in the first but that was late in the 1st after the Bradys, Mosses, and LT's were gone (thank god I didn't fall for that). Romo would have been the highest scoring FFB QB if it wasn't for his fragile little pinky, that definitely cost me a few games in the middle of the season.

This FFB season was a lot different than past years: case in point - there was a guy in my league who drafted Brady, TO, LT, MJD, Grant, and the Chargers D and he didn't make the playoffs lol

My theory is the most active people in their leagues have the best chances of making the playoffs. If you just draft and leave it at that, then your're in trouble. I started my season with Kitna, Randy Moss, Torry Holt. I'm ending with Cassell, Slayton, Royal. I had no idea those guys were options at the begginning of the year. Well Royal I did. I suck at drafting but I make up for it in free agency.

There's always some guy that drafts the Ravens D in the 6th round. You can pick up a good defense every week depending upon the matchup. Same with Kickers. You can't do that with running backs or WRs.
I had 32 waiver claims over the season. 32!
I know right. I just counted mine. 46 transactions (includes two trades). That's 3.5 transactions per week. Usually Defense/Kicker and some hot topic of the week.

I have 44 transactions so far, with only 11 players waived. So, I think it's safe to say I've done some decent maneuvering this season, especially with my #3 seed in the league and a comfortable 9-4 record.

I've never had a truly dysmal loss, save for Week 1 when I was at the Ravens/Bengals game and couldn't bench McGahee in time. Oh, and I also happened to have Tom Brady as my starting QB...we all know how that went... :(

Subsequently, Wes Welker did next to nothing for me, and same with TJ Houshmandzadeh. Ricky Williams was a bust that day, and the Colts defense surprisingly gave up 21 offensive points to the Bears. *sigh*

I grabbed Randy Moss in the second round. He's a curse. It's like you can't bench him. You feel obliged to start him everygame. He only has two good games. But most of his games he scored under 10 FFP. He's been dismal without Tom Brady. I wish he was out of the picture, because you want to count him out, but you can't! Frustrating.

Hey BMore410 who did you bench for Flacco just curious he has been a good fantasy play as of late but I can't justify benching someone like Romo, even against Pitt, for Flacco so who is your other QB?

Right now the way the Cowboys have been playing I wouldn't bench Romo. Plus there might not be any Marion Barber. The Cowboys might elect to pass 95% of the time in this game. I think if the OL can buy enough time for Romo, then he'll make the Steeler's Pay.

PuRock I like your matchups as well I don't think any will have outstanding games, maybe Slaton, but its very balanced overall and the back end of your lineup should be solid which is where a lot of teams fall. Hillis has also come on very strong. I like your WR set too I almost always go with 3RB's and 2WR but then again I have Jacobs, Johnson, and Slaton so its understandable lol. My receivers suck as usual but Royal can be good some weeks I wanted to pick up Clayton for my bench but alas he has been claimed : (

Post your matchup though so we can see the matchups and the other teams lineup.

Excellent point PuRock they may not run much at all and rely on the passing game which bodes well for me. Manning threw 3 TD's at Heinz field so Romo can definitely do it too.

Well the guy I'm going against has a good WR core. Plus he's using LT as his flex. So it'll be a tough week for me. My team is a bunch of chumps and rookies compared to his. But they have won me six straight games.

Vs.

Matt Ryan
Tim Hightower
Thomas Jones
L. Tomlison (Flex)
Andre Johnson
Brandon Marshall
Lance Moore
Owen Daniels
Matt Bryant

No need to sugarcoat, my whole season has been based around injuries and disappointements. But my team continues to surprise me. So who knows. I'm hoping to have a good game from Cassell to Moss against the 30th pass D in Seattle in a must win game. And I'm hoping Mattt Ryan lays an egg.

Cassel and Moss vs Seattle should be a nice matchup somehow I didn't even think of that. That could give you 50 points easy between the 2 against the Seahawks.

Can only hope for another 4 TD connection between them like they did a few games back. Combined for nearly 75 points between the two.

This week, I'm starting:

Chad Pennington
Wes Welker
Eddie Royal
Hines Ward
Derrick Mason
Steve Slaton
Pierre Thomas
Dustin Keller
T.J. Houshmandzadeh (flex)
Matt Prater
Miami

And there's some individual defenders too:

Jon Beason
Nick Collins
Quentin Jammer
DeMeco Ryans
Karlos Dansby

I should (keyphrase: SHOULD) have an easy matchup this week since my opponent hasn't touched his team in weeks, but he's lucked out with starting Matt Cassel, Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson, Brian Westbrook and Stephen Gostkowski every week. He still has Felix Jones starting in his flex spot though (he's been out since Week 6 and is on IR).

I was tempted to start Flacco this week, but I'm not taking any chances. Granted, the Dolphins haven't played well in cold weather and all...but it's against the Bills, so I'll just play it safe.
