Top 5 AFC North By Position DB's and Special Teams

8 posts in this topic

Sorry for this post coming out several days after the others, life has been hectic since the holidays... Here goes.

Safety

1. Ryan Clark - Has been a constant force in the top rated Steeler secondary.

2. Reggie Nelson - According to PFF finnished in the top 5 in coverage for Safties last year.

3. Micheal Huff - Incredible ability to fill in at corner last year, should be a great additon for Baltimore.

4. Troy Polamalu - Still a special player but slides due to so many missed games.

5. TJ Ward - Quietly has been very solid for the Browns

Cornerback

1. Joe Haden - Superstar

2. Ike Taylor - Many will disagree with this pick, but he takes away the other teams number one receiver.

3. Lardarius Webb - only slides here due to his second knee injury.

4. Cortez Allen - Finnished within the top 15 in the league in coverage in part time duty.  Will start this year opposite Taylor.

5. Adam Jones - Actually put together a nice year for the Bengals.

Punt/Kick Returner

1. Jacoby Jones - Single handedly won games last year.

2. Antonio Brown - Also very solid return man for the Steelers

3. Travis Benjamin - Was fairly solid for the Browns, has big shoes to fill with Cribbs.

4. Ladarius Webb - Hopefully he is not forced to return kicks, but can change games as well.

5. Ben Tate - The Bengals return man - definition of mediocrity.

Kicker

1. Justin Tucker - The rookie was extremely clutch last year.

2. Shaun Shuisham - Did pretty well considering the elements in Pittsburgh

3. Mike Nugent - Didn't have that many atempts - maybe the Bengals don't have the much confidence in him.

4. Shayne Graham - The Browns replace Phil Dawson who was an incredible 7-7 from 50+ last year with this guy who has bounced around through 6 different teams.

I agree with most of this except for the safety part. SS and FS are two completely different positions with different responsibilities.

Edit: Anyone remember when everyone wanted us to keep Shayne Graham and dump Cundiff at the end of the regular season? I guess that worked out well for us.

How is Leon Hall not your 4th cb?

Hall is not playing better than Allen or Pacman.  His coverage actually ranked 30th last year.

Do you want to post your ranks for them seperately , that would be fun.  it's weird w/o the Reed/Polamalu debate.

Not sure how a SS and FS ranking would go. Not sure if I want to put Elam where I think he'll be as a SS or where he should be realistically because he hasn't played a down.
