I look at those photos of Brooks visiting the Ravens and I got sooooooo happy! Brooks Robinson is my absolute elite hero. I just have so much love in my heart for that man.

 

 

My Brooks Robinson story:

 

He was my hero as a kid. When I played ball, I was always Brooks. My favorite number is #5 because that was Brooks number. One day I needed a little air in my bike tires and did not have a good pump so I went to the Crown gas station at BelAir Road, just north of White Avenue to fill my tires with their air pump. After filling my tires, I looked over and who do I see hanging out and talking with the attendants, yes Brooks Robinson. I was in absolute awe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was shy and stood there with my jaw dropped and Brooks sees me standing there. This great man waves me over and starts talking to me. I was in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!! Then he asked me if I would like a autographed photo and got one out of his car and signs it for me. This man was the nicest guy I ever met in my life and treated this kid he had never met like he was special. I will never forget this............ever!!!!!! I can still remember riding my bike home holding his autograph photo being on such a natural high. I don't think I was ever happier in my entire life.

 

 

Thanks Brooks, you gave me one of my greatest childhood memories and I will never forget it. I love that kind hearted man and will to the day I die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! May God bless him!

Great story thanks for sharing. I've never seen him play but the constant praise of him from everyone older person I know, tells me he was the greatest oriole, and greatest 3rd baseman ever.
I didn't know he was like that off he field, athletes sure have changed in today's world.

He is my fathers favorite Oriole. My father got a baseball personally inscribed by Brooks in the 80's. He is pure class.

Ok guys... I didn't want to mention this because It was work related... but now that it's pretty much over.. Not only did I get to meet Brooks, we shook hands and chatted for about 20 minutes. I work for the US Mint and we're having a contest in conjunction with The Baseball Hall Of Fame, regarding the new commorative coin. Basically, we're taking submissions from kids and adults for the next coin design. To kick it off... Not only did I get pictures with Brooks , Treasurer Rosie Rios... I also got to have a nice talk with Brooks.
When Brooks spoke, everyone listened . He was a great, sincere speaker.
He is a darn fine comedian. He told us a story of when he was signing things for a young boy at a card show... the boy had 20 of the same card.. Brooks asked why he needed 20 of his cards autographed..? The boy said he needed 20 of these so he could trade them in for a signed Ripken Jr rookie card! LoL.

When I was a kid, Brooks used to camp at the same campground at my grandparents . I met him as a youngster.. to my surprise, when I got to talking to him .. he remembered signing something's for me and even mentioned my grandparents by name! What a sharp guy Brooksie is.

Brooks is hands down the best defensive 3rd baseman of all time. I am glad he is still in Baltimore. 

 

As an O's and Caps fan, this is one of my favorite pictures of him.

 

 

For those who don't watch Hockey, guy on the left is Brooks Laich. He was named after Robinson.
