Joe Flacco: The Golfer?

15 posts in this topic

So, earlier in the week Flacco showed up to play in Ron Jaworski's (sp?) annual charity golf tournament in NJ.

Not only is this where I discovered that Flacco got huge (that 7 pounds seriously shows!) He looks like terminator...

But more interestingly, I think Joe has serious potential as a golfer.

At one point he was paired up with the current long-drive champion, you know those guys who hit for distance and thats it, and he drove the ball about 375 yards! Incredible.... BUT to my shock Joe stepped up next and cranked it about 372 yards!!!

So it looks like our QB has a future possibly in the PGA, or at least on the long drive circuit.

-I apologize if this isnt thread worthy but I thought some may find it interesting.

Nearly all of the QBs are golfers. A lot of TEs and WRs are, also. Some of them start just so they can play in charity tournaments. Others do it for relaxation. Boller and Chris Redman were both good golfers (not that that's a recommendation). I've heard that Heap and Pitta are also good at it.

True story. Joe's a great ATHLETE. In addition to football honors in HS, he was All-Conference in baseball and basketball.

Not surprised, a tall guy like him can get some serious leverage in his swing. If he actually trained seriously as a golfer, he could probably be in the 400 yard club

Oh absolutely. Agreed.

I guess it was more surprising that the long ball guy stepped up and when he hit it 375 everyone was buzzing about how long it was and then Flacco stepped up and hit it literally within a yard or two.

It really is a testament to his natural athletic ability and competitive nature.

Also of note *** A golf course went up for sale near Flacco's home town and a group of guys bid a cool $10 mill for it. Both Flacco and Jaws were members of the group. Unfortunately they lost out to a $10.1 mill bid from a guy who plans to tear it down and put houses or commercial buildings on the land. Flacco was almost a part owner of his own golf course ***

Drive for show, putt for dough.

If he can sling 80 yards, I wonder what he can swing with that long frame. Probably 400+ yards.

I remember like last year when the guys were trying to get Flacco a present for his birthday and they kept asking him what he did, and he told them he didn't golf, he didn't fish, etc., so they got him a pinball machine, I believe, because he hangs around in  his basement a lot.  Maybe after that he decided he needed a new hobby.

If he's hitting a straight 375 yard drive in his first season as a golfer he's some sort of freak!  I bet he has played before now, just not on a regular basis since becoming a pro football player.

Well, the article answered your question. 372 yards.

An athlete is an athlete is Joe Flacco! 372 yards?!? It would take a stick like Matt Ryan 2 strokes to cover that distance!

I know some have expressed concern or voiced potential concern it seems over Flacco following Romo. I'd like to say I don't imagine that happening. In my opinion, it sounds like Flacco did this for charity not out of competition. I'm sure he likes good to an extent since he participated but he doesn't seem to be the type to become distracted by this.

He had a baby last year and he won a Super Bowl.

I think it's cool that Flacco can play golf though. That's neat.
