Deonte Thompson straight from coach Harbaugh

Yeah it's completely possible that our gunners could be guys like Asa Jackson and Chykie Brown. However, I think David Reed offers too many different things (slot receiver, gunner, returner) to let him go in favor of a guy like Mellette who would receive minimal, if any playing time. I agree on Streeter in that he's a guy that you can't let go of without giving him a chance, though. The top 4 seem to be fully established in Smith, Jones, Doss, and Thompson.

I think we somehow keep one of these 7 WRs. Someone's going to get hurt and I think Streeter will make the roster because of his ridiculous physical gifts.

I love this position battle. I'm glad Boldin is gone. I can't imagine having to decide with him still here.

Agreed.  As much as I love Boldin as a player, it was time to let him go.  I've wanted to see the young guys get a chance for awhile now, but with Boldin, it wasn't going to happen.  I really hope Caldwell approaches it by committee and plays guys in situations suitable to their skill set.  It's always been the top 3 guys and no one else has ever really gotten a chance.

I'll miss Cam Cameron.

We really only needed three wide receivers on the roster the whole time he was here.

That's not even a funny joke!

Caldwell had some things to say about Thompson recently

"He’s a gifted route-runner, and he is getting better," offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell said. "He’s young, and he’s developing. [Wide receivers] coach Jim Hostler is working with him, and certainly, getting him refined in all aspects of the game. He understands how to sink his hips. He can do a great job of changing direction. He has speed, can catch the ball, and he’s tough. I think that’s a pretty good blend.

He’s a young guy, so we will see. If he keeps improving the way he’s going, I think he will be a fine player.”

Short and simple, speed kills, and with the 2013 Ravens passing attack, a lot of teams will have their own pick of poisons.

Mellette is clearly going to be an IR candidate.

Yeah. If he reminds the coaches of Boldin, then we need to hold onto him with both hands.

deonte thompson being good is downright shocking to me.  I am an FSU alum and live in tampa so I watch almost all UF games the same way as I watch almost all steelers games and Thompson was awful.  He couldnt catch ANYTHING.

I could not be happier that he was bad enough in college to go undrafted and he seems to have grasped the mental side with the drops which held him back in college.

Here is how I see the WR group

Locks

Torrey Smith

Jacoby Jones

Tandon Doss

Very Likely

Deonte Thompson

Bubble

Tommy Streeter

Aaron Mellette

Laquan Williams

David Reed

Just researched this guy a bit and found that his forty time avg'd around 4.33(which matches that of former Steelers WR Wallace). You match that type of speed along side Torrey Smith and a possible additional speedster in Reed, Jones, or Streeter, this guy could seriously turn some heads next season. A lot of people dont know about this guy but back when he played in Florida, this guy was part of a speedy offense that consistented of the fastest players in college. I hope Deonte gets the #2 spot because if we can have a consistant player that can match or even exceed the speed of Torrey Smith, the AFC north could be the Ravens to win once again. Three in a row anyone?

He also had difficulty catching or rather holding onto the ball while at FSU. He seems to have improved in that area. I'm excited for him.
