Getting to know our new Ravens

Williams might be my favorite pick in this draft.  I don't know what it is about the guy, but I think his personality plays into that a lot as well.  He just seems like a genuine, down to earth guy.

Williams can play 4-3 DT

Just call him "the Janitor" lol

He cleans up the crap... So I assume that's ok.....

I really wish I could get my arms to even half of that size though.  That's ridiculous.

Good thing Rolando retired. His profile would've been awkward/funny/sad.

628x471.jpg

Name: Rolando "The dope" McClain

Weight: 260

Draft Status: Picked 8th Overall in 2010 NFL draft.

College: Alabama

40 time: 4.68

Quite possibly the biggest bust since Brian Bosworth at MLB.

Ozzie Newsome decided to give the talented youth a chance until McClain bailed on us and got arrested again.

He retired May 15th 2013 so he could get his life in order.

Career Highlights.....

This guy looks like a brute force to begin with.

Name: John Simon

Position: 3-4 OLB. 4-3 DE

Scheme: Hybrid.

Height: 6 ft 2 in

Weight: 263

Draft Status: Picked 129th Overall in 2013 NFL draft.

College: Ohio State

40 time: 4.63

John Simon proved to me something more than taking the BPA. Ozzie Newsome believes in hitting doubles.  He hit one right here.

There is no such thing as a guarantee in the NFL(cept if you Joe Namath), but this guy, with the contagious work ethic he has, will be one of our favorite Ravens in a few years.

People questioned his athletic ability, and IF,  he had the athletic ability of an Art Jones, he would have been a first rounder. That's not to say this.. He's a good enough athlete to play in the NFL. But his work ethic gives him sky high potential. He will not be an all pro, but at his best might be a pro bowler.

Barring injury, Ozzie hit a double.

He's got a mean streak, and will be productive. May not be a superstar, but he will have a ten year career in the NFL.

At the time, I was so confused when we picked Simon because they announced him as a DE.  Now, I love the pick.  He's pretty raw in coverage and setting the edge, but the guy can get after the QB.  You can never have enough pass rushers.

Simon has huge potential.  He could be an unsung stallwart similar to Jarrett Johnson, with better pass rush skills.  I could see him comming in a bit this year situationally and to spell the starters.  He is relentless enough to make some huge plays on a worn down defense.

I am doing two since Grim took one of them the other day....

BGzBBnOCcAE2wpi.jpg

Hm... He's in the slot? I wonder who it is?

A FB?

Name: Kyle Juszczyk

Position: FB/TE/Slot WR

Height: 6 ft 2 in

Weight: 248

Draft Status: Picked 130th Overall in 2013 NFL draft.

College: Harvard

40 time: 4.71

I HATED this pick.... I questioned it, until I did more research of him.

I've seen people compare him to Reece. I've seen people compare him to Leach.... I'm not to compare him to either of those two... He's more like Aaron Hernandez + Leach if anything.

The guy will knock you on your ass. He's a nasty football player,  in that regard.

He's going to be the starting FB. But I ask myself. Why did we take him this early..

I did more research and found out why.

Turns out he plays the slot at TE positions too. He has soft hands, and is great at moving the chains.

Meaning, in the near future, when we go to the shotgun, we no longer have to take the FB out. We move Juszczyk to slot WR. So, we can keep two true WRs on the field, and keep a TE in (rather than moving Pitta to the slot), keep Rice in the backfield, and move Juice to the slot...

Which... is brilliant if you think about it.

That's why I like the pick. Ozzie played "fooled y'all" with the NFL. Everyone was laughing when we took a FB, when in reality, we took another weapon.

Juszczyk is another pick that just confused me.  A FB in round 4?  Yeah I'm glad I'm not running the team.  Like you said, this guy's position on paper is FB, but he does so much more.  He's a swiss army knife.  I think he's going to be a favorite here for a long time.

When we picked Juszczyk, my heart sank cause I thought for sure it was Leach's walking papers.

Then I did some reading and watched a video or two and I started getting pumped.  Now I am claiming him  the big hit ( pun intended ) of the 2013 team.  This guy is, as was said already a swiss army knife.  I cant wait to see how Caldwell uses this guy.

Who remembers those few times Rice lined up in the slot ?  This guy is more versatile that Rice. ( I didnt say better )

I cant wait to see this guy on the field.

I agree, he's a high energy, all out effort type of player. he may not be the physically most gifted or athletic but he loves the game, he works harder than anyone else and he's a leader...he's one of those guys that will elevate the play of other just by leading with his play

he may be on special teams mostly this year but i could see him on the defense too getting some snaps...he's going to be awesome down the road once the coaches mold his game and he figures out what his role is in the defense

OT-Ricky-Wagner-420x303.jpg

Name: Ricky Wagner

Position: OT

Height: 6 ft 6 in

Weight: 308

Draft Status: Picked 168 Overall in 2013 NFL draft.

College: Wisconsin

40 time: 5.17

I don't understand why everyone hated this pick. I think he's the teams RT of the future for when Oher leaves.

He comes from the Olinemen factory Wisconsin. He's not the most athletic player in the world, but he takes smart steps rather than quick steps...

As of right now, he will be quality depth, and nothing more

Like you said, he came from Wisconsin.  It's hard to ever trust a 5th round lineman, but if I had to trust any, I'd pick the ones from Wisconsin.  While I doubt it happens, I do think it's possible that he could be a serviceable LT.  However, I like him best at RT, where I think he'll end up starting in a year or two.

I don't know what it is but I was down in Asheville, NC during a wedding and I was "watching" the draft in my hotel room. When we got Brandon Williams, I was like "Who? So and so is still on the board (think Alabama)". I spent next few minutes researching this kid, watching interviews on youtube and I was blown away by how he seemed. Hard working guy who moved and cleaned out porta potties. The guy has arms like the Juggernaut, the heart of a lamb and I don't know if there is anyone from that draft class, hell the WHOLE TEAM, that has his drive and work ethic besides Yanda.

I really liked the fact that Im not the only one that appreciates this kid, I loved they did a feature on him on the front page. He is the guy I am most excited to watch in the coming years.

Yeah, Brandon Williams almost seems too good to be true.  I actually like his (lack of) height; Jamal Williams, Kelly Gregg, Casey Hampton, Vince Wilfork, Pat Williams, Jamal Williams were all 6'3" or under, you want a stouter guy stuffing the run for leverage.

His strength and athleticism are top notch, and the guy showed that rarest of traits for an NT, the ability to get to the passer.

The only drawback is that he looked good in D-II but would presumably get exposed against tougher competition.  The Senior Bowl proved otherwise, he held his own and did quite well at times.  His balance and reading plays need a little work but the guy's a physical manster with good character, I think he could be, like Webb, an overlooked guy we get an absolute steal in by doing our homework.
