Rolando McClain is retiring

Actually, it IS how life works for those who are smart enough to seize the opportunity and those compassionate enough to put it out there,.

Do you really mean to say that when a person in trouble gets an offer of help from someone in a position to help them and then basically refuses the offer of help, that's not sad? We could have helped him...he declined that help. That IS sad.

Geez, remind me not to offer to help you if you are ever in trouble since that's apparently not the way life works.

It's his life, and he needs to do what he thinks he has to do. We aren't him. We don't even know him. He might need to do this to get his life straight.

If he doesn't want help, that is his decision to make. That decision doesn't make him a bad or selfish person.

Moreover, retiring does not mean he won't accept help. Reports say that the organization reached out to him after the retirement. It has not been said whether or not he will accept the help.

I know you're not a fan of his but I think this possible semi-retirement is a positive sign that he does have those goals high on his to-do list.

I hope so. Not like I want to see anyone continue down the path he has taken

the recent statement he issued looks better coming from him

Yup, pretty much what people had speculated.

From his agent:

"Clearly, my decision to retire has raised some questions," McClain said in the statement. "Quite simply, I love football, but I have decided at this time it is in my best interest to focus on getting my personal life together. Beyond that, I'm not sure what the future holds for me, including football. This was entirely my decision and the Ravens have been very supportive during this process. I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me and wish them the best of luck in the future. God willing, maybe I'll play for them one day."

Glad he's trying to get his life back on track ... upset we lost a good LB.  Best of luck to him.

My guess is he retired because Ozzie/Ravens told him to. When he gets  this behind him, he may reapply. The smartest move.

This is not about playing MLB.  The young man needs to get his life in order.

Maybe some thing are bigger than football ?

We didn't necessarily lose him, granted he won't play this year but if he ever comes back we still have is rights. And if he does comeback that will most likely mean he's gotten his act together which will me he's closer to the player that everyone thought he'd been when he was coming out of college :D

Best of luck Rolando!  Hope it all works out for you.  We will be alright without him though.  TRUST!

Good point. So his comeback could only be good for us.

Exactly. We don't risk any more bad press while he works on himself and we have the potential benefit of a potentially Top 10 middle linebacker falling right into our laps. Not to mention he'd be coming in motivated and focused to prove to all his doubters that he is reformed.

If he came back in 2 years we'd have a 26 year old McClain and a VETERAN Arthur Brown holding down the middle of our young and rejuvenated defense.

And if he digs himself deeper, it is no reflection on the team. Plus, we are the "second chance" team, which is not a bad thing to be. And it didn't cost us a dime.  So essentially, Ozzie does it again.

I'm still troubled  by this.

I was very excited with the Rolando McClain acquisition. Him retiring is rather tough. I mean, I understand why and everything. I just wish whatever mental disorder he's going through could be nice and orderly and focused.

I actually wish that for all people with mental health issues. To be honest, it wouldn't be the first time I've seen enormous talent wasted.

I had high hopes for Ro in 2013, though. That will have to wait.
