Draft a Franchise: Discussion Thread

For me, it was strictly bpa.  Lots of QBs are putting up big numbers in the NFL nowadays, so my thinking is that I can still find one later.  I don't think you need a top 5 QB necessarily.  In the meantime, I'm building on other positions.

I love this selection. He was one of the players I was strongly considering.

I am fairly certain all of the starter caliber QBs will be gone in the first round. You will probably have to go with a young unproven guy and hope for the best.

It was just an educated guess because there were two key information that fit your pick in that you're a Premium subscriber for ProFootballFocus and J.J. Watt was the highest ranked PFF player. I assume you'll use the PFF stats list often to decide on your picks. Whoever has that premium subscription has the insider's info on your draft board. Anyways, this draft is going to be unpredictable because age has been a big factor, which is why Andrew Luck was drafted before Drew Brees and Tom Brady.

I selected the Defensive Player of the Year, who amassed 20.5 sacks from a 3-4 DE position. I needed little outside information to assist me in that selection. Watt was also one of my favorite prospects coming out of College that year. This is a chance for me to select my favorite players, and I'd be more than willing to select several of them over the arguably better ones. There are less than a handful of members on this board who are aware of what positions I value over others. Therefore, nobody has any inside track on my strategy.

Truth's Insider Information (Free of Charge):

[spoiler]

Keep an eye on these guys....

Brandon Graham

Derrick Morgan

Carlos Dunlap

Greg Hardy

Truth values pass rushers and I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to land three legit pass rushers. He already got one in J.J. Watt.

I'm definitely not resurrecting the same team from my Mock. That would be extremely boring. Nor would I need an excess of pass rushers with Watt on the DL, considering that we're only drafting 25 players. Bitterness is a petty trait.

That was pretty much my feeling as well, I was considering RB with my pick, but ultimately after looking at what everyone else was taking and trying to think like a real GM I decided to go QB.

You got a good one too. Griffin is going to be a hall of fame talent if he can stay healthy. If there were no health concerns you could make the argument that he should be the 1st overall pick.

ohh I'm getting the goose bumps now, the player I believed would be there at the beginning of this, still is and only one more pick before me (who should really be Ben!!!), so...

That will be the catch, however since this is fantasy I can say he recovers from his injury and becomes the player everyone was thinking he was last year before Haloti said "Ngata in my house" to his knee lol

Steelers Prophet taking Big Ben was a easiest pick to call outside of Aaron Rodgers going first lol

I'm very happy Ben is off the board. That pick guaranteed me at least one of the last 4 guys I have pegged as a franchise QB worthy of the 16th pick.

There are still several guys that could be very good QBs for your team, its gonna stink for the guys to pick the last four QBs or so lol

There are some other good options but if I am gonna pass on elite talent elsewhere, I'd better be getting a championship caliber QB. Ben would be in that group but I think his body is breaking down so I chose to exclude him from that list. To me there are 4 QBs left that fit the description. There are other guys who could get there, like Stafford, Cutler, or Bradford, but they have to prove it first and I'd rather have an elite defender than take one of them when starting my team. Luckily I don't have to make that choice and can begin my franchise with a signal caller that I am comfortable with.

I actually wanted to pick someone other than Ben just to be a surprise.....but the ones I wanted all were picked...the top two right before I picked....so I went with BPA in my book and grabbed Ben

PS, I uploaded a photo of Big Ben...both of them

I like the Miller pick. He was my first choice if a top QB didn't fall to me. He is the best defensive player in the NFL and fits in both 4-3 and 3-4 fronts. Nice job!

I think Watt is better, that guy can do it all

I am excited we will soon be hitting the point where QB value vs. top players left value may make people draft away from QBs...I expect I will have slim pickings at my pick, I guess I will have great value elsewhere.

That point will be very soon. The only top QB left is Eli imo. After that the value drops off of a cliff and it makes more sense to pick other positions.

I wonder if the two guys u want a lot make it to my picks. This will be interesting.

I can't see it to be honest. One of them has multiple rings and the other is a very young star who is already competing for DPOY. I'd guess that both are gone in the next 5 picks.

Very much a fan of the Miller selection. I was considering him at the 7 spot.

thnks, if he wasn't there, Wilson would've been my selection, lucky Reed_20

I read your post before you fixed it, I though you were referring to the other 2 guys on the BPA list I sent you in case I couldn't make my pick
