Draft a Franchise: Discussion Thread

Watt went very high. I get the reasoning but there were still a lot some very good players at more important positions on the board. Very surprised Watt went this high. Flacco is a good selection. Not my best qb available but this is a ravens board so yea no probs there.

Yeah, that's true. Cam has it all physically. It's mentally where I have concerns. I don't mind guys with character concerns, but at the QB position that really scares me away. He looks like he's the type to quit on games. That's my issue with Cam.

I'll take Cam. They finished 5th offensively year 1 and 12th this year despite a sophomore slump. Cam is a bit immature, but he isn't Jamarcus Russell. Tbh I appreciate that he cares about winning. He may not express it in the best way, but at least he cares.

Cam imo should have went before Flacco mainly due to age and what an offensive weapon he is. I def would have put him before Peyton, Brees, and Brady just due to age.

I don't disagree. He looks like he'll be a very good QB. I just wonder if he is mentally tough enough to win games when it's all on the line. He's proven to be a winner a lot of times, so he may very well do it.

That part doesnt worry me. The real question is how he deals with losing games in the future. Will he grow up and mature when it comes to dealing with that is the real question to me.

Good point. Yeah, I agree with that. I don't think he's in the worst division to be a star, either, to be honest. I think the NFCS is a lot more competitive than people think. The Panthers are gradually becoming a better team. At least he didn't go to the Raiders. That would have been the worst environment for him, IMO.

Agreed. I really think the Panthers can be a sleeper team. They may have a top 10 defense this year. Short and Loutulelei will make a power DT combo that will shore up that run defense. Really all they need is some secondary help and another receiver to give Cam a consistent weapon and they could make a serious run in that NFCS. Cam's freakish ability makes up for a lot of deficiencies in that offense.

I like the panthers as well. Their secondary is actually very poor but I'd ont have too big of a concern at wideout for them. Both lafell and hixon can be very good players. I will be quite interested to see if cam grows up or takes a step back this year.

Building a team around a running back. Interesting strategy. I question the longevity of this move. But Peterson may well defy the odds as he is a freak of nature.

I'm sure this has been discussed, but what are you guys prioritizing? Draft a team for the future? A team that would play well together? Or just as much talent as possible?

Whatever you want. It's your choice.

Personally, I'm taking any player with the name Jones, Smith, Williams, or Brown.

Please, no one take Leon Sandcastle from me, alright?

I will trade you Leon Sandcastle for Adrian Peterson since he was the guy I wanted lol I was even going to use the same picture.

Generally I'm not a fan of building around a RB. There isn't enough longevity and most players at that position are products of the OL and blocking systems except for the really elite guys. That being said, Peterson is a freak and I can't even imagine what he will do this year now that he's had a full year of recovery after posting 2,000+ last season. I question passing on the true franchise QBs that are left, but AD did at least show he can take a team to the playoffs himself.

For me, it was strictly bpa.  Lots of QBs are putting up big numbers in the NFL nowadays, so my thinking is that I can still find one later.  I don't think you need a top 5 QB necessarily.  In the meantime, I'm building on other positions.

Just surround him with an OL and a stingy defense.

That's how we won the Super Bowl in in 2001.

That's fair. I'd still worry about your options at QB coming back in the 2nd round. You can certainly build a formidable team but I'm not sure you can win a title without a QB who can put the team on his back and get the win.
