Edit: Also Im drafting a franchise I want to be competitive for years to come, Im not gonna reach on a mediocre talent at qb and thereby screw my franchise over for years when I can build a young punishing defense.

That would be 24 picks away so thats really doubtful considering that we are building a franchise and he is the clear best 4-3 DE on the board. Taking age into account, he probably is the best defensive player remaining on the board in terms of value.

Given it's a preference thing, not sure how much I like the Pierre-Paul pick, especially with Aldon and Clay on the board.

My pick will be a little controversial

Given it's a preference thing, not sure how much I like the Pierre-Paul pick, especially with Aldon and Clay on the board. 

Clay Matthews is 27 and will have about 4-5 more years to Pierre Paul's 10. So Paul wins there

 

Aldon Smith is 23 now, but will turn 24 in sept, Pierre Paul just turned 24 in January so the age gap isn't enough to warrant Smith over Pierre Paul. I think the main difference for me though was that Pierre Paul creates for himself while Aldon loses a lot if his d line is dominating (as he should given his position). As bad as you can say Paul was this year he still had 66.5 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a fumble, and an int. Those are still gaudy numbers for a down year.
