NFL's Best Rivalry?

144 posts in this topic

I hate to say so, but I feel the exact same way. They were 8-8 last year, and unless Wheaton and Bell make big immediate impacts to help offset the holes in their D, they may very well miss the playoffs again this year.

One thing they do have going for them will be a healthy DeCastro and I think Adams will step up big time for them this season, so their OL might be brutal to face

what holes on our D....Harrison is replaced already.....Hampton Played less than Mclendon anyway......the reason we let lewis go is because we were going to make him our third CB behind Allen and he wanted too much for that......so who was this big loss

Ahh yes, the #1 defense argument. Is there are more meaningless statistic? The Steelers were among the league's worst at forcing Turnovers and average in applying pressure. Also not the #1 scoring defense, which is by far a more meaningful metric.

You are correct that turnovers were a problem......but letting up the fewest yards is hardly something a worn out defense does

at the very least we are one of the best......letting up the fewest yards is noteworthy

nd in 2010 we had so many injuries and everybody said that we limped into the playoffs and most didn't pick us to beat the ravens......

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2011011500/2010/POST19/ravens@steelers#menu=highlights&tab=recap

Ravens (Housh/Boldin drops, Ravens turnovers) and officials (holding on Webb punt return TD) gave you that game; you guys were favored, so most DID pick you to win; Antonio Brown on 3rd and 19...

I believe they were still top 10 in scoring defense.

after reading that they didn't feel the rivalry like they used to I thought Id fan the flames a little lol

Well, you've certainly got a knack for energizing that Ravens/Steelers animosity huh? lol

We're in the same division with the Ohio teams. One is just...in a sad state and one is well, the Bungles. They just can't seem to go anywhere even if they manage to make the post season.

We are the contenders in our division and we will always have a rivalry. Say what you want about the decline of the Steelers, and it may prove true in comparison to the rest of the NFL, I gurantee they will play us down and gritty and it will be another nail biter, like they usually turn out to be.

Jarvis is either a Big boom or big bust. 50/50. I don't think your dline looks that impressive. Everyone else gets another year older, Troys always hurt, and didn't you guys lose your number 1 cb ?
Still think you guys will have a top 15 D. Also you guys are in cap hell and have a pretty shaky offense IMO.

They were, but the #1 defense (yards) by itself is not a great means of determining how good the defense was in a vacuum.

Agreed. It is an accomplishment, but definitely not the end all.

Jarvis looks good in training camp so far

our D-line is

Woodley-top of the line

Ziggy-eh some steelers fans hate him....I think he's average but not bad

Mclendon-played most of the time last year and the coaches love him.....greenbay even tried to steal him

The "Diesel"-Fear the Beard

Jarvis/Worilds-mostly unproven but have major upside

so I think it could be pretty good

we lost what essentially was our number 3 CB....we lost lewis who last year was our number two CB....but we were going to make him win the job from allen because the coaches think he is a star...he wanted to much money for that role...so we signed Gay and let him walk

How do we have a Shaky offense......

WR-Above Average

QB-Top Tier

RB-Young and Promising

O-Line-all were drafted in the top two rounds but one.....this year they should be very good

TE-early year bad........mid year Top Tier

IDK but it looks pretty good

blah, blah, blah

No offense, but why don't you go write about the squealers somewhere else.  I have a sneaking suspicion no one here could give a rat's behind about their squad. I know I don't. just sayin'.

QB- always seems to get hurt
RB- unproven
WR- solid trio. I used to believe Brown was better than Wallace but after last season I don't think so anymore. Don't have a true #1. Two #2's.
TE- Heath might not be fully healthy week 1. Don't know whose behind him. Spaeth?
OL- shaky until proven otherwise.

Todd Haley.

whoa man.......im just talking football

if you don't care what I have to say why do you keep responding to me....personally I like talking football with fans of other teams more because they have a different point of view. no one knows a team like a fan of that team......

yea I admit that's the other side of the same coin......I agree with everything you said but I do think Brown can be a number one.....Hines Ward style

Sorry if I'm a little salty, I come on here to read and talk about the World Champion Baltimore Ravens.

All was good for me when we were chatting about the rivalry, but talking squealers football in depth is getting way off topic and I don't like to read it.  But don't mind me, I'll just ignore.

It's fun to talk with another team's fans as long as they are respectful. He has been just that. In a topic revolving around our rivalry with Pittsburgh his insight is on-topic.

Pitt will either bounce back well this year or begin the rebuild process very soon..

We'll see if their main pieces can stay healthy... That's the key

ill give you a little background on me if it helps lol

some people here know this but my wife is actually a ravens fan.....we met at a game way back

so as weird as it seems im actually a little bit of a ravens fan because my wife has as much ravens gear as I have steelers stuff so it kind of rubs off a little

No matter. They could go to the Iron City brewery and bring in a bunch of barley bag haulers and still play us tough. That's what makes the rivalry so great. We just need to continue to open up a big can of whoop butt on them and send 'em home crying.

Back on subject here but one of the issues I have with this rivalry and its ability to sustain itself revolves around the Big Ben. His health and ability to remain healthy have clearly declined. I question his longevity and thus the longevity of that football team.

I don't know if I completely agree with that, while having Ben vs. Joe makes for a more marquee matchup, the Steelers are still a tough out without him.

No one on their roster can replace him, but because of the injury concerns with him Tomlin would be negligent to not have a backup plan for him, which they have with Gradkowski this year.

They always play us tough and, as Steelers Prophet has reminded us, beat us without Ben last year too.

I don't disagree but here's my perspective:

1. Our rivalry is so good because they can beat us and make the playoffs and contend for a Super Bowl.
2. Without Ben they have a significantly lessened chance of making the playoffs let alone Super Bowl.
3. I am not at all sold on any of their current backups eliminating my first two concerns.

I really believed Brown would take over last year and have a breakout season. He's still a great wide out though, it'll be interesting to see how their receiving core pans out. I think Wheatons a stud

I am inclined to believe it's Ravens Steelers. The physicality of the two teams, the fanbases being some of the best in the league, and the geographicaly close cities, and most of all the mutual respect (but hate) make me believe it's this. Even though the Steelers had a dissapointing season last year, both the games against the Ravens were very close.

Another thing that makes it great is the fact that the styles of play are actually very similar.
