NFL's Best Rivalry?

144 posts in this topic

But their understudies are still around. Make no mistakes: the Steelers MUST remain competitive for the sake of this rivalry..

To be fair, that sounds like it's spoken by a fan of the team that's clearly ahead at the moment. I think rivalries mean less to the team that's ahead because their priorities tend to be much broader than simply beating the other guy. Let's be honest, beating the Steelers means less to us after we've beaten then 3 times of the last 4, but I'd wager beating us is more important to them than it was a few years ago.

For that reason, I think the rivalry's still good even without the Steelers competing for the AFC.

The Browns are the stupid brother in this divisional rivalry....

The Browns remind me of Joe Brown in the Madea movies!

Does that make the Bengals the sister who always wants to do what you do and fails at doing so in the division?

The Bengals are the not-so-pretty bridesmaid that gets invited to every wedding except for her own.

The Seattle/SF rivalry is basically 1 year of what the Ravens/Pitt rivalry has been for the past decade.

Ravens - Steelers is still the best rivalry in football and it's not really close.

I have to agree. How can the Seahawk/9er competition that has only been going for a single season even be considered a rivalry. Sure they are in the same division but the the hawks have not really been relevant for more than a season or two. The 9ers have only really been consistant since Jim has gotten there. Not much of a rivalry, at least not yet. Give them a decade of battle and then you can label them a rivalry. The potential is there sure.

You have to dig a little more to find a better rivalry than the Ravens - Steelers.

Saw that, too. nfl.com publishing garbage as usual. Hyping the 49ers-Seahawks.

They are trying to make something out of nothing to increase viewership out west. That is all. Silk purse, sow's ear. Why hype the east coast rivalrys? They have plenty of viewers here.

This is true, they've been dying for a relevant WC team

am i the only one who doesnt care about the longevity at all of the ravens-steelers rivalry? i mean cmon, it will be a rivalry as long as they are in the same division, these 2 teams have the history that will never fade from the past decade, but that doesnt make it the hottest rivalry.

sea/sf isnt even a legit rivalry yet, no playoff games, a boring first game, and a shelacking by the seachickens in the 2nd game this year, 2 young and tough teams dont make it a rivalry, the games have to be played first.

the rivalry that is on fire right now, is ravens/NE, it has history dating back to 07 when we almost ended their undefeated season in primetime, we lost a nail biter to them in joes 2nd year, and we probably wouldve won if it wasnt for a easy catch dropped by mark clayton, we destroyed them in the playoffs later that year, 2 years later we abused them then allowed an embarrassing 4th quarter comeback(that became a trend for us that season) and then we all know the infamous billy finkle incident in the ship a year later, then, while the patriots felt like big brother to us, we beat them in primetime, then went to ship again, in their stadium, just like last year, and we beat the brakes off of em to go to the super bowl..

so after a quick summary of the history between the ravens and pats of the last 6 years, dating all the way up until january, how can you not say this is one intense, heated, closely contested rivalry? its 2 of the best afc teams from the past 5+ years, 2 of the best qb's, the stakes are always HUGE, theyre almost always a close game, the ravens defense is the ONLY defense that can make tom brady drop his head and say "why am i playing so bad?" every time, there is plenty of trash talk every time we play, our team HATES the pats and its well known, and they hate us too. in 2 straight years we split afc championship games with them. idk how there isnt a single guy on this board that sees this rivalry the way i do..

Just because San Fran and Seattle are considered two of the top teams in the league doesn't make them a great rivalry.

The Baltimore/Pitt rivalry isn't about two top tier teams playing twice a year. It's about how we play them, even in a down year for the Steelers the rivalry continues.

Ravens vs Steelers is by far the best rivalry in the NFL right now, and one season of well matched teams doesn't make them a better rivalry.

For me the Ravens - Steelers rivalry really got kicked into high gear after the Joey Porter cheap-shot on Todd Heap. I disliked the Steelers before that, after that I despised them. Things continued to escalate back and forth with Bart Scott DESTROYING Roethlisberger and Hines Ward with another incredibly cheap shot on Ed Reed (I'll never forgive him for that garbage). Ever since 2008 both teams have been consistently in the upper tier of the AFC and each game has meant a lot.

I feel the Ravens-Steelers game have been the all-out no holds barred match of all NFL matches. Where else can we see hits and brawls like these.

We need to put Troy on retirement this season.

Disagree,

1. Ike Taylor
2. Ryan Clark
3. Lawrence Timmons

Those three over Harrison? Maybe last season, but we're talking about more than just last season.

Over the last 3 to 5 years j think these are the three best. If you go 10 years back

1. Polamalu
2. Harrison
3. Woodley

Were those three even in the league ten years ago? I think not.

I think every fan thinks their team vs whoever is the best rivalry, but Ravens vs Steelers is legitimately one of the best. If nothing else, it's probably the most physical.

Ask a Redskins fan and it's Redskins/Cowboys. A Packers fan and it's Packer/Bears or Packers/Vikings. I believe they are among the longest standing rivalries but time isn't the only consideration.

Personally, I think the Ravens/Patriots may soon trump Ravens/Steelers.

That's my thought as well.  But, Ravens/bungels could move up.  There's the added twist there with Marvin being the HC.

It's sad the Ravens-Steelers matches aren't quite as anticipated as before. I miss the anticipation.

I think the anticipation will always be strong for the Ravens and squealers and their fans. But, it may slip nationally if the squealers continue their decline.

For me it's not. I understand what the Steelers fans were talking about all those years. I'm much more excited for games against the Texans, Patriots, and Broncos than the Steelers. I'm of course excited for our Thanksgiving game. That's a given. It's just the games don't hold the same allure they once did.

Yeah I remember how annoying it was when the Steelers spout off. Ryan Clark famously said, "Its not a rivalry if only one side wins all the time." (I'm paraphrasing lol) and I think now its swtiched to the other side, as Ravens fans we expect to beat the Steelers, where as a few years ago we were more hoping we would beat them. We've gone from measuring ourselves against the best in our divison to measuring ourselves against the best in the NFL.

I can see where you are coming from, but for me, any loss to the squealers would hurt more than any other. I'm sure I'll feel the same "butterflies" just before and during the games.  And the satisfaction after a Ravens victory will not be diminished!

First off the best rivalry is Steelers v Ravens

you swept us two years ago yes......but we swept you in 2008......three times actually

and the ravens have never been able to beat us in the playoffs....out of three tries right

so before you jump the gun and think this rivalry is one sided in your favor......remember these things

I think the rivalry just leveled out a bit....making it all the more interesting

Quit discounting the Steelers. They're a dangerous team and, more importantly, they play us harder than anyone else.

If Steelers week doesn't get your blood pumping, I don't know what to say. How can you not hate the guys? :P

I think you need to admit that the table has turned and the Ravens are now, by far, the better Team.  And you have to make the POs(or maybe past the first round?) to be beaten!

That said, "on any given day" still applies, especially with the added juice of this storied rivalry. I know my interest remains and by no means have these games been checked off as "sure wins".

My "hate" has diminished slightly since hiney retired.  I now just hate the thought of possibly losing to them!
