Who are the top 5 best (and/or) worst Free Agents we've had?

This argument is getting a bit out of hand.

Who knew there was so much passion behind the infamous mike anderson debate?

FWIW I agree with you here 100%. His contract, play, and injuries set us back in some ways. He's one of our worst. If not the worst. It's how much money we gave him. That's what makes his signing so bad.

As a player I agree he was one of the worst signings we've had in recent memory, which is a bummer becuase I like Foxsworth as a person. The work he did for the players during the lockout was impressive.

He wasn't a terrible player, but his contract was ridiculously expensive for the production he gave when he wasn't hurt. That's what makes him the worst signing, yeah.

I would not put foxworth on this list whatsoever. If he was not slowed with the knee injuries he would have been a very nice starting corner opposite Webb. He was our only redeemable secondary player, I wish I could remember the correct season, but it was difficult to watch walker and Carr who would go at the top of my worst free agent signings list. Ed and ray both missed time that year as well... 08?

It's about the money and cost more than performance. His performance left much to be desired. He wasn't bad but for the money we paid for him he was terrible and a bust. Sorry. That's just my opinion, however, so that it for what it's worth

Dude, he was 34. 34. Who in the NFL has ever put up good numbers as a runningback at 34??? Heck, Barry Sanders, considered by many as the best Rb of all time, retired before he even reached 33. Go ahead. Try naming one Rb who played even decently at 34. I'm waiting.

Top 5 Offensive FAs for me

1. Shannon Sharpe ( basically picked up every critical first down or TD catch needed that 2000 run)
2. Derrick Mason ( Mr.Reliable ranks beneath them because their catches help lead us to titles )
3. Matt Birk (although aged, still help keep influx O-line together for a few years)
4. Fullbacks ( Vonta Leach, Sam Gash)
5. Jacoby Jones ( I know its one season but it was a good season )

** I wanted to include Boldin but he was technically traded for, so bummer

Worst 5 Offensive
1. Elvis Grbac
2. Lee Evans
3. Billy Cundiff
4. TJ Houshmandzadeh ( Yes I know 3rd WR, but constant ran his mouth w/ no production to back it)
5. Any QB thought of ( Banks, Blake, Cunningham)

Top 5 Defensive
1. Michael McCrary
2. Rod Woodson
3. Samari Rolle
4. Tony Siragusa
5. Trevor Pryce

Worst 5 Defense
1. Frank Walker
2. Tommy Polley ( Did nothing for us)
3. Corey Ivy
4. Chris Carr ( never cared for carr)
5. Domonique Foxworth ( mainly because injury and amount of $$. First year was ok imo )

No love for Boldin, eh?

Rod Woodson perhaps?

Willis McGahee?

Boldin and McGahee were trades so I didn't consider them - not sure they would have displaced my top 5, anyways.

Lee Evans was acquired through trade--not free agency.

Housh wasn't that bad. Definitely not top-5 worst.

Best:
Derrick Mason
Kelly Gregg
Michael McCrary
Vonta Leach
Shannon Sharpe

Can we count Stover? He was drafted by the Giants then signed by the Browns. If so, he's up there.

Worst:
Elvis Grbac
Mike Anderson
Domonique Foxworth
Frank Walker
Corey Ivy

Mike Anderson really sucked for us.

why corey ivy? i loved his energy and versatility

I struggled coming up with a 5th bad FA and Ivy was the one that sprung into my head. He was high energy and did well blitzing but, when asked to cover, was usually burnt to a crisp.

doesnt help that we had frank walker, foxworth, dawan landry, and even jermaine winborn for a large part of his time here (example '07) our whole secondary used to get burnt to a crisp when mcalister was hurt

Yeah ur right about Lee Evans ( surprise I didn't catch if myself ) because originally I listed Boldin as a top then I remembered it was a trade. Heck I should have just said Acquisitions lol which would have included both FA and Traded players picked up.

Here's my thing with Housh the Previous year we had Kelly Washington playing the slot role and he to me played beyond my expectations and was pretty solid he had 34 rec 431 yds
Housh had 30 rec 398. Those numbers are very similar I expected more from Housh since he was lining up against nickel backs. Housh talked a lot about getting more passes etc
( I'm willing to say some of his failure is Cam Cameron's fault for never really committing to 3 Wr sets or having creative play calling )

Lets say I had high hopes that year for WRs.

I was also a fan of Washington. Since he left us he was on two teams in the same year in 2010 and hasn't played since.

I really don't see why foxworth keeps showing up? He was our best corner for a while. Carr and walker definitely belong as the top worst, especially carr. Searcy belongs in the bottom 5.

Was redding a free agent? He would be near the top.

I think I told you? Foxworth was given a very expensive deal. It was 28M/4yrs. That's 7M a year. That's a LOT of money for a CB. That cornerback had damn well better be a baller if he's getting that much money. He only played one year. One year. ONE YEAR out of FOUR years. The other two years he was on IR, in 2010 & 2011. In 2012 he retired.

I'm sorry, but that's the definition of a bust.

That's a sad statement to have to make.

Unequivocally, Elvis "Never Entered The Building" Grbac was the worst. There is no one who can be added to a list he where he is included.

Too many choices for the best: Sharpe, Mason, McCrary, Adams, Quadry, Woodson, etc.. Hopefully Dooms and Huff are added to this list!

Grbac was a whiner and a quitter, but he really wasn't all that bad as a QB. We had no running game (seriously, Jason Brookins?) and not much of a line (lost Leon Searcy in camp). We never had much at WR. Elvis was running for his life every game and yet we still managed to make the playoffs and even win a game.

Leon Searcy might have been worse. We signed him to a big contract and he never played a down for us.

Elvis retired before he got to Baltimore.  It was painful to watch him fold at the first sight of pressure. We never should have signed him.  Thanks Brian.

Searcy tore his bicep in training camp. Right?

Sorry to digress, but Glen Davis beats all as the worst FA signings/trades in the history of Baltimore sports. Nothing like that has ever happened with the Ravens.
