A. Q. Shipley acquired from Colts

144 posts in this topic

It's so hard to say they were going to cut him. I know your point. But it's hard to say the Colts were going to cut Shipley. For all we know, they were debating on which guy to cut and we called. We offered a pick for Shipley, they said "Done deal" and that's the story.

Heck, it might even be one of those deals like Mark Clayton, where we swapped picks (6th & 7th) with them.

In fact, I bet that's what it was--a swapping of picks. There's zero info out there about what the trade was. I wish I knew. I mean, if we gave up something ridiculous like a 5th rounder then I'm on your side--I'm mad. Hell, even a 6th rounder is a bit much unless we swapped for their 7th or something.

I read today that we offered a conditional 7th rounder where if aq doesn't make the roster the colts won't get the pick

Where? I'm curious. I heard that before as well. Personally, I like that deal a lot. I'd rather not give up a draft pick if he doesn't make it.

Colt fans are pretty upset at this. That is always a good sign.

Yeah...(from Colts' forum)

Jshipp23

The fact that 1 of the best G.M.'s and talent evaluators in the league in Ozzie Newsome wanted Shipley tells me this was a bad move for us, Newsome continues to make brilliant moves this offseason...

You've got to love the respect and awe Ozzie gets from fans around the NFL.  Not many GM's are household names among NFL fans.  Then again, not many stay around very long because they keep making the impatient mistakes Ozzie rarely does.

This guy probably isn't the next Mike Webster, but he's a solid insurance policy if Gino falters or gets injured, with the potential to be really good.  A lot to like in this under the radar move.

I also saw a 7th if he makes the team, and no compensation if he doesn't, for what its worth.

Yeah, I remember reading the same. I just haven't seen much to confirm it. You know--legit sources, not hearsay. Then again, I guess there is no "legit" source unless it's from the NFL, anyway.

Yeah. It's probably such a low profile trade so no one really cares outside of Baltimore. I've seen a Ravens source that confirmed the 7th rounder if he makes the team, but I can't remember who it was. Someone not named Aaron Wilson.

Apparently AQ doesn't fit the Colts new power run and west coast system as much as the other two centres, should the Gradkowski experiment fail then AQ gives us a proven pass blocker with good intangibles at the pivot.

Didn't we have Jeff Saturday on our roster and the Colts signed him from us and he turned out to be an All Pro Center for them? Seems like it's our turn to take one of their centers.

Yeah. We seem to be moving more to a balanced, versatile team where any player can play anywhere. Well, not anywhere, but you get the point, lol. I hope I don't have to see Ngata playing QB anytime soon.

Why not? Just imagine how awesome that would be to watch, I mean who could bring him down for a sack?

I would LOVE to see Ngata under center.

Better yet, put him in the gun and let him run the option. Let's see those old rugby skills!

Imagine that. I'd love to see that--even if it was a trick-play.

He could replace Boldin as the 3rd string QB. Defenses would be furious if they saw him under center. Can you imagine? It would take two DE/OLBs to sack him. Lol.

We could also run a literal Suggs package

So, you're thinking:

QB: Ngata

FB: Suggs

RB: Rice

WR: Webb, T. Smith

TE: Pitta

LT: McKinnie

LG: KO

C: Williams

RG: Yanda

RT: Oher

I'd rather have Bryant at TE, I mean with his size he would be untackleable (is that a word?)!

Its wordability is untacklealistic.

Actually, I read about a protein named titin the other day that has over 189,000 letters in it and takes over 3 hours to read.

There's a dude on YouTube reading it for 3.5 hours.

2008 Remington award winner, hailing from PSU. 40 on the Wonderlic test (which is pretty darned good). A great grade based on his play from last year by several sites. Only starting Center to not get a single flag last year. This guy provides some solid competition to the starting Center gig, and at the very least provides good depth. He could very well turn out to be a steal.

Am I the only one who is excited about Juan Castillo being a part of this team?? Seems like he did a lot of good things for us in the playoffs last year, and he is providing some great advice to who we should keep/sign/trade for/draft as far as O-Line goes. He's possibly the most underrated addition to this team. It seems like after Castillo was signed last year, we shuffled the line and put McKinnie back in as LT, and now he has McKinnie excited about learning some techniques from him, per the reports when we signed him. I'm pumped.

You could very well be right

The Philadelphia Eagles hired Castillo as an offensive assistant in 1995 under Ray Rhodes.[2] In 1996, the Eagles drafted Jermane Mayberry, an offensive lineman Castillo coached at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Castillo was promoted to tight ends coach in 1997, and switched to coaching the offensive line in 1998. When Andy Reid was hired as the head coach of the Eagles in 1999, he retained Castillo on the coaching staff.[2] Mayberry earned a Pro Bowl berth in 2002, and said Castillo "molded me into the player I became."
