A. Q. Shipley acquired from Colts

For a 7th, why not. Not much of a risk for a guy that hopefully is as good as rumored.

Well, in reading some of the back-and-forth here, I see that Shipley is listed at 6'1". ...So he must have some leverage ability to be picked up by us.

I just hope he isn't just another nose picking bald guy on the bench!

I can't zoom in from my phone but it looks possible that he's scratching the outside of his nose. Either way I'd be so pissed if I were him lol.

Wow. Just read on the Colts forum based off of some statistic they Shipley was the only starting center in the league in 2012 to not get called for a penalty.

I like the move. Solid pickup. I think Gino is the better center albeit limited action from both, I just feel Gino is more athletic and will be a stud in our zone system.

Shipley adds good competition and experience of the way Castillo does things in his system. This also allows the Ravens flexibility to place either Jansen and/or Wagner on the PS. It also pushes Reid back out to RT, which is the only position he should play imo.

I'm loving the depth we now have on the line and i'm thinking Juan does too.

2008 Remington award winner, hailing from PSU. 40 on the Wonderlic test (which is pretty darned good). A great grade based on his play from last year by several sites. Only starting Center to not get a single flag last year. This guy provides some solid competition to the starting Center gig, and at the very least provides good depth. He could very well turn out to be a steal.

Am I the only one who is excited about Juan Castillo being a part of this team?? Seems like he did a lot of good things for us in the playoffs last year, and he is providing some great advice to who we should keep/sign/trade for/draft as far as O-Line goes. He's possibly the most underrated addition to this team. It seems like after Castillo was signed last year, we shuffled the line and put McKinnie back in as LT, and now he has McKinnie excited about learning some techniques from him, per the reports when we signed him. I'm pumped.

We shuffled the line because Jah Reid got injured.

Anyone expecting this guy to be something amazing should really temper their expectations. This is 7th round pick who has bounced through multiple teams. The hope is that we will never have to use him and that Gino will pan out. He had one good year on a colts team that was in general playing above its level of ability all season.

And people insinuating that he will be a bum will be shocked. This guy is not a bum. He isn't a beast, but he is a guy who will come in and improve our team by giving us solid depth. That's all we can ask for in a 7th rounder. If you thought I was saying that he will turn out to be a stud, then obviously your reading comprehension needs some work.

No job is given away in a basket.   F.O. are saying Gino needs to earn it.   If he can't top Shipley he doesn't deserve the job.

Where did I say Gino would be given the job? I said Shipley adds great competition and depth but feel that Gino is the better player.

Likewise there are people insinuating he's some great center just because pff gave him a positive grade.

I quoted you just to point out that your reasoning for the line reshuffling was incorrect (if it was even you I quoted)

I'm excited to see what he can do. He sounds like a guy brought in to push Gino and less like a guy to replace Gino. Still, his stats are impressive. The only thing funny about the PFF grade is that some said PFF stats meant little. I hope those same people don't say the opposite in this thread now that it benefits the Ravens. Lol

I like the move as long as it's a 7th. No harm there. He gives us some veteran presence behind Gino. That was my biggest concern after the draft.

PFF still sucks. Don't trust their 'grading'.

Nah. I hear you. But you know what I'm saying.

I know, I was one of the ones who railed against it in the other thread.

Hope Shipley turns out well. Sounds like he'll at least be solid depth and can start in the league.

I remember wanting Shipley when he came out of the draft a couple years ago so I'm glad we were able to get him for just a 7th. Always thought he make for a great replacement for Birk and I guess we'll see who will be our replacement between Gino and Shipley.

I also like that he is still young enough to end up being our center for a decade if he beats out Gino for the starting job.

I dont think it was too great of a move for Ozzie. I would have waited until we at least saw what we had in gino and the guy we drafted before doing this.

Yes! Another Nittany Lion. AQ should be the starting center for the Ravens. He will outperform Gino. He was a Rimington Trophy winner as the most outstanding college center in 2008. He shows great leadership ability and work ethic. Short, but so is Gino. Really solid pick up here.

I am 99% certain he did not play in that game, it was their starting center Satele who played. I remember how he telegraphed every hike with his dramatic head bob.

We gave away practically nothing, and I think pretty much everyone ( I guess except you) realize center is a position where you want to have some veteran experience. I think we know what we have in Gino and rookie mini-camp gave the team a first impression with what Jensen can do. One of our UDFA took snaps at center too, so maybe he is projecting to be a guard instead of center. Also, if Ozzie waits longer this trade may no longer be available.

That's a little misleading since I'm pretty sure he only played in 5 games.

He just has some kind of vendetta against Gino and finds every opportunity he can to put him down.

Thats highly doubtful in regards to the availability. Im sure it was Ozzie who inquired about the trade rather than him being shopped around. The fact that the colts took Holmes in the 4th gives you an idea of what the colts think of his ability (Shipley's)

I have no problem with the value aspect of it, but we either know what we have or we don't know what we have with Gino and Jensen. We can assume Jensen is a ? or project. This leaves Gino. Now the coaches have watched Gino for a year. That would suggest that we know what we have in Gino and made this trade for one of two reasons.

1. Gino isn't good enough to start and we needed another guy

or

2. Gino is good enough to start, and we could have waited or found a vet in FA with a comprable record to Shipley which may have saved us a draft pick, an again while this is not bad value a penny saved is one earned.

Im gonna reasonably assume that we didnt make this trade with Gino as a question mark. If we did, than it makes no sense not to wait.
