I think we'll be seeing more wide nine and four DE sets with Spags' influence.

wide 9? As in spread out and not stop the run up the middle wide 9?

No, not that one. Wide nine as in only used in obvious passing situations to get a stronger pass rush.

I agree.. our Defense in it's entirety was awful last year but our run defense especially was pathetic!! That wasn't ravens defense we witnessed last season, so I can agree that we'll instal some base 4-3 formations to keep our run pluggers on the field to prevent a travesty like last year from occurring again.

actually a 3-4 allows the team to have more DTs on the field than a 4 man line. In a 4-3 there are only two while in a 3-4 there are three.

I hear what you're saying though

I like the signing.

He will be asked to focus on a specific task, role with the defense... not coach the entire defense and call plays.

I dont think he's going to have a major impact positively or negatively, but it brings another experienced football mind into the fold. We have a very young defense this year, so the more experienced coaches we have on that side of the ball means more individual attention that can be paid to the young players in helping them develop.

My guess is he will help us to self scout and look for tendencies. Although I would imagine he would be helpful in scouting NFC teams, which he's played the last few years.

Don't know that that's the main idea since we only play 4 NFC games a year.
