Steve Spagnuolo hired as "senior defensive assistant"

97 posts in this topic

This guy is well versed in the 4-3 and made a championship caliber defense in NY. This is just more proof in my eyes that we'll see a hybrid front and more base 4-3 this season. Our defensive line is SO DEEP that it would be stupid to keep all that talent on the sideline.

Really like the move. He was on point with that Giants D in 07 when they beat the 19-0 Pats in the SB and got to Brady all game. I'm really exited about the D this year. Expect energetic, fresh, fast, hard hitting ravens defense.. Will be the best defensive unit we've had in the Harbaugh era. Clearly an upgrade over last year's 17th ranked group.

Interesting move. Sounds like John wants to help his unemployed friend. At least it's a good, unemployed friend. I wonder what his role will be.

My feelings exactly. As long as he doesn't get in Dean Pees' way it will be fine. As Ravensdan mentioned he is a good hire to step in eventually for when Pees gets a head coaching job. I like your insite GC.

From what I remember and my memory could be spotty but I thought Pees said he's not interested in being a head coach. I could be wrong. If anything this move could be anticipatory of Teryl Austin or Wink or possibly another team signing Monachino as teams were rumored to have interest in him after the Super Bowl.

We'll see. I initially thought he could cause a problem but I doubt it. I don't think John would have brought him here if it meant too many cooks in the kitchen.

Probably will help us with our 4-3 looks and with our defensive line play. Should be interesting.

I am unimpressed by this guy. Just something about him I do not like. For one, he is a hot head. And being John's friend doesn't give him a lot of credibility, after what we suffered at the hands of another of his friends.

He's friends with Pees.

Now that you mentioned it I do remember Pees saying he wasn't interested in a head coaching job.

Several times, in fact. We've really put together a great coaching staff, to go along with an awesome front office. No wonder year after year we pick low in the draft but still put together a contending team.

But yes. I can confirm that I heard awhile ago too, that Pees plans to stay here for awhile.

same thought.   I know spags had a good resume in the past and horrendous one w/ saints.  Not sure if he lost his magic or whether he lost interest in winning.  Im hoping Spags got some motivation left in his tank, and not try to put this job as some paycheck he can collect off of a friend trying to help him.

But in this case he isn't even a coordinator. just an assistant. to improve themselve despite what they lost in th despite what they lost in the offseason. How are they not favorites to repeat?

Just for off the phone with John. He said he could use a new guy to clean McKinnie & Cody's back after a sweaty game & practice. Interested?

I like this move, Dean Pees is comfortable with the 4-3 but bringing in Spags helps even more. Much like us hiring Castillo on the offensive side.

I just wanna say, we might have the best owner in sports.

From the top to bottom we are one of the best ran teams in football, if not, thee best. Amazing front office, spectacular coaching staff, beautiful roster.

Little moves like this can make a big impact. I don't feel he gets enough credit.

Thank you Mr. Biscotti! Even though he'll probably never see this lol. ....also, buy the Orioles. :D
