Ed Reed has hip surgery; out until training camp

All you guys talking down on Ed Reed like he don't have it anymore might be eating crow this year. So, Ed is outgoing and he voices his opinion........ doesn't make him a bad guy. I just hope Huff can just halfway replace what Ed did on the back end. He's versatile...... means nothing if you don't have the awareness to be able to diagnose plays and take away parts of the field like Ed has.

Baltimore got the best years out of him, his best playing days.

Texans pretty much are paying for a Name sake. and while he can still be on the football field, Reed stated himself that he doesn't play the same as he did when he was younger, his playing style has changed and he's protecting his body. he's not the hard hitting safety he was here.

Houston im sorry but you paid for the name sake with the occasional play here and there, a liability now

That's called Father Time and it does that to the greatest players in every sport you can name unless you take some type of PEDs like the guys in baseball like Barry Bonds for example. I would still probably have a washed up Ed Reed over Huff and time will obviously tell with that. Another thing I felt to the decrease of Reeds impact is our pass rush has sucked for the past 3 years and IDC how great you are, if a QB has all day to go through his progressions, gonna be hard for any safety to make plays.

Are you serious? Did you watch the games? Ed did on the back end???
Ed as Ray were a handicap on our team last year. I love both because they are both from the U.
But seriously you need to take your purple shades off and watch the games. Nobody was afraid of those two last season. They actually threw at them.

Ray had regressed more than Ed and to say people threw at Ed last year, every safety has the ball thrown towards them many times throughout the year. Just b/c Ed was getting a million picks doesn't mean he wasn't doing anything on the backend. Like I said, time will tell on that but I believe Ed will have a good year with Houston knowing the type of style they play on D and they get pressure on the QB. I watched every game last year...... did you watch the games? You say that as if Ed was getting abused back there, lol.

I'm with you Wayne, especially after watching Huff this preseason do diddly poo, Ed couldn't tackle last year and I didn't care, he's a damn FS not an ILB. Brady still avoids Reed like the plague, can't wait to see Brady go after and torch Huff in coverage. Now I'll never know what Reed wanted or if we even offered him a contract but I'd take Reed at 33 or whatever he is over Huff any day. Reed could have used a safety beside him like Elam to take more pressure off being the only safety who could cover down field.

That's geared toward his time here the last two years. This year I really don't know how long his hip is going to hold up, you can only have so many surgeries on a joint before its just toasted. Forever love me some Reed and his lateraling shenanigans.

Brady didn't challenge Reed based on past reputation. He can go after Michael Huff all he wants but then he just may learn a new lesson. Don't forget - after Ed Reed won DPOY waaaaaaaaay back in 2004, the NFL was still referring to Ray Lewis as the best defensive player on the team, and as such, opposing offenses were still attacking Reed and giving him the opportunity to make plays. Now Lewis may have brought a ton of intangibles, but physically, Ed Reed was probably the best defensive player.

NFL gives most players creedence based on what they did in the past. That's why the same people who claim Baltimore will be bad without Ray and Ed, are the same ones who claim that the Ravens were old on defense last year and that's why they almost lost the Super Bowl BLAH BLAH BLAH

Hey, past reputation or not, if it stops Brady or Manning from going to a certain part of the field just b/c that player is in it, I will take that any day of the week. There was a play in the playoffs where Cary got destroyed by Lloyd but b/c Ed was in that area, Brady didn't even look that way and it lead to a failed 3rd down conversion whiched caused the Patriots to punt. Thing about that play is Ed wasn't in the greatest position to make a play on the ball had Brady thrown it. I just think how many other times this has happened that has gone unnoticed. As far as the Ed Reed off field drama, please. If you call talking about retiring every year drama which is mostly the only drama he put up, I will take that over some of the real drama other players go through in the league.

I just felt big part of Ed not making as great of an impact as he use to make was the team not being able to create pressure a lot like years past. Even Troy, you don't see the big plays that much anymore and the Steelers aren't getting at the QB like they use to either. Time will tell.
