I'm a huge Ed Reed fan but I won't miss his constant injuries. I'm so excited to see what the duo of Huff and Elam have in store for us this upcoming season.

something makes me think our management knew about this all along

mhmmmmm. I remember when he had the first surgery in 2010. He was put on the PUP list and missed the first 6 games.

Ed is funny with his surgery scheduling.

You would think players would schedule very shortly after seasons end.  He never did.  Just enough to keep him out of the non-mandatory camp.

I think because it would have hurt him in contract negotiations.  I hope he returns to good health after we beat them this season.

I'm glad we moved on but I really hope he retires.  Don't want to see him playing for the Texans.

I'd love to see him and 52 get inducted into the Hall of Fame together. That's why I was hoping Ed was only waiting to announce his retirement after the Super Bowl.

Wish you the best Ed. I would hate to see him suddenly return to 2010 form after his surgery

Would be awesome if they get inducted on a Sunday where the Ravens are playing.

I remember Strahan's induction was announced the same day the GMEN were playing. How AWESOME was it to see JO75's face and then hear a large cheer in the Super Dome?!!

This.

And I hate to rub it in everybody's faces, but I had called for us to let Reed walk even before the season ended. I wonder how many negs I got. Now everybody thinks "what a great move."

Anyway, Heap also had some major injury just after we let him go a couple years ago. These losses hurt more sentimentally, of course.

funny. I lost a lot of respect for him during that offseason drama too. So what, he thinks his pretty resume will be enough to just sit around and virtually retire in the offseason?

Kind of like when we let Antwan Barnes go, Philly scooped him up and then let him go quick, San Diego experienced success but didn't seem to like the guy.  Same as Jared Gaither in Kansas City then San Diego.  Same as...unfortunately...Oakland with Fabian Washington and Rolando McClain coming here (so far), and Buffalo with Lee Evans.

Very rarely do you see a team sour on what seems like a good player and let him go, then suddenly have all the problems which caused that release disappear.  Problems tend to follow players.  I'm sure Houston realizes if we were even a little willing to let Ed walk, he was not the total package anymore, but this has to be disappointing still for them.

I remember when I read their comments on him coming to Houston and they all thought they were getting the DPOY Ed Reed. Don't get me wrong I love the guy, but Ray Lewis will always be #1 to me for knowing when to hang it up and going out as a Raven. It's a rarity in this "business"

Ed has a love for the game that hasn't burnt out. He'll be back, and he'll do well.

Nut not against us.

As per Rotoworld:

Coach Gary Kubiak acknowledged Monday that the Texans did not expect FS Ed Reed to need hip surgery when they signed him in March.

On March 20, the Texans signed Ahman Green Reed to a three-year, $15 million deal with $6 million guaranteed. "We didn't expect it, but it started bothering him," said Kubiak. "That's when we got aggressive in what we needed to do." It's believed owner Bob McNair was the driving force behind the Texans' pursuit of Reed after the club lost Glover Quin and Connor Barwin in free agency. McNair conceded Monday that Reed may not be ready for training camp.

Well, well. Interesting.

Sounds like Houston's owner was being too much of a fan and not enough of an owner.

He needed to make the big splash signing after they had lost some of their bigger name guys. Sounds like a Redskins move.

It's not like Ed would have shown up to OTAs anyhow... he'll even have "surgery" to avoid them...

Wait, were the Texans so excited to sign Ed that they forgot to give him a physical?

Pretty much. "Hey look Ed Reed is available let's get him!" Just saw his name and probably figured they were getting the old Ed Reed, not a worn out injury prone version of Ed Reed.

Though we do have to thank Houston for doing this, if they hadn't signed Ed Reed, they may have drafted Elam in the first instead of Hopkins.

What if Ed came back from surgery, said he wasn't feeling up to it, and just retired? He'd pocket the 6 million in guaranteed money and Houston would be SCREWED.
