Breakout player of the year award goes to...

Why does OUR players get bashed so much by OUR fans ? This is crazy.

its a message board, wee are all hardly going to come here and all agree that every payer is great and should be in the HOF. Differing opinions and the ensuing discussion on said differing opinions is what makes this board interesting

Jacoby Jones.  This cat is exciting to watch and he always has me expecting him to break a kick off or punt return for a TD!

I can't say this definitively, but when the coaches say that he is developing nicely, I assume those aspects are all areas where he is getting better. I don't expect him to be a finished product by any means, but I also don't expect him to be just a year older. He has had time to work on route-running, and improving his hands, strength, and knowledge if the offense.

He really has to improve on his strength and boxing guys out, along with the other stuff you mentioned.  It seems like, at least occasionally, he's a guy who plays smaller than his size.

It would be close between Jimmy and Jacoby.

I would have to say over all Jacoby by a hair.

Think it has to go to touchdown Marlon Brown, what a pleasant surprise. Rookie un-drafted free agent that has produced like he has is special. He's nowhere near his ceiling too, has all the tools to become a big time player.

Break out year I think Dallas Clark... He has to prove he has a lot more left in that veteran tank.. I think he is going to be a Slot presence for us and win down the middle..

Maybe he'll break out if he breaks that concrete off his hands lol.

I'd say the contenders are Jimmy, Marlon and Jacoby.  Also, Daryl Smith has been playing really well for his first year on the team.

Deangelo Tyson has been seeing a lot of snaps in a crowded rotation and doing well. Totally underrated breakout candidate.

Marlon Brown for sure. Jimmy Smith would also be a good choice but he was a 1st round pick. I mean, we had to expect that coming at some point. Marlon Brown went undrafted

Echoing other opinions, it 's clearly either Jimmy Smith or Marlon Brown, and has to depend on your definition of "breakout." If it's just somebody who exceeds expectations, you're looking at an undrafted rookie receiver in Marlon Brown. If it's somebody who "breaks out" in the sense of playing better than they ever have before (which isn't applicable to a rookie), that's Jimmy Smith.

This... Typed it almost exact and then looked up.

No doubt, Marlon Brown, but Jimmy Smith is playing better than anyone expected him to.  After his first few years in the league people labeled him as a "bust".  Now he's chasing "shutdown corner" status.

I never understood the bust comments. I thought he played well in limited time his rookie year. Wasn't the best season last year but I wouldn't say he was horrible. I think the injuries set him back but now he's just adjusted to the league.

Anyway my vote goes to Marlon Brown. We thought he could play like this in pre season and good to see him stepping up.

Yup...dont forget DeAngelo Tyson.

Can you believe the man was a 6th rounder?

7th actually.  Makes it even crazier.

Actually, he was a 7th round puck, 236 overall

He's in the same mold as Marlon.  A high profile under performing recruit who went to a big name SEC school.  Throw Deonte Thompson to that list as well.

I don't personally think he's a bust or ever was.  He just wasn't playing like Chris McAlister so people flipped out.
