Breakout player of the year award goes to...

162 posts in this topic

I've seen Joe Flacco play with poor pass protection at LT, I wouldn't bet on this one.

Breakout player of the year for me would be Bernard Pierce. He is going to get the ball a lot more in my opinion and him and Rice will be like Taylor and Jones Drew circa 2006-2007

So have I, and he still made plays and still won games! If he didn't already break out, I'd bet on it. And yeah, I guess you could argue that Flacco was only good in the postseason because of McKinnie. Maybe. Or, maybe he was better in the postseason because Caldwell, well, he called well. And Cam didn't.

I think the Flacco we saw in the postseason had more to do with the offense opening up than it did with the LT situation.

I still can't believe this is Jimmy Smith's 3rd year already.

Time flies.   He needs give us a full season and a great one.

Ramon Harewood. Coaching staff has been huge on this guy, he got acouple starts last year and was hampered by injury, so he didnt do anything phenomenal. This will be his first full offseason without injury. I look for him to start at LG, and KO start LT.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say Jameel McClain. I think he comes back from his injury hungrier and better than ever and his leadership helps develop the middle of our defense into a monster.

I'm going all out with Deonte Thompson as our breakout player of the year. I think he'll be the #3 WR and then next year the #2.

Yeah i agree. I feel Caldwell offensive changes regarding playcalling was a bigger factor.

His improved play in the postseason doesn't count?

The guy who could have easily been called for holding on the most important play of his career?  No, that doesn't count.

Pernell McPhee returns healthy and with the Rotation that will occur at DE and LB McPhee will get 9 sacks

J.Smith - will start most of the season and be consistent for us

Deonte Thompson emerges as the other guy finishes with 35 Rec for about 600+ yds

Pitta - Pro Bowl selection 70-85 Rec, 855+ yds (Breaking Heap's Team TE record)

For offense - Tandon Doss, Gino Gradkowski, Ed Dickson

For defense - Chykie Brown, Jimmy Smith, Courtney Upshaw

On offense, I'd say KO. He obviously found his niche at LG during the playoffs and having McKinnie come back means he can stay there all season and get recognition as one of the best guards in the league.

Defensively I'll go with Omar Brown. I was hoping he'd get an opportunity to get a lot of reps this season but the FO did the smart move in signing the veteran Huff. I'm still holding out hope that Omar will outplay Huff and eventually take his spot as FS sometime this season. Every time the guy is on the field, he makes a play. It's so reminiscent of Ed Reed that it's sickening knowing he isn't guaranteed a whole lot of time on the field.

I am picking Bernard Pierce. He showed a lot of promise as the season went on and was quite impressive. I think he is one hell of a running back. I think he earned more carries this season and will make the most of them.

My next pick is Deonte Thompson. If he has another preseason like last year and we don't play him during the year, then shame on us.

Btw, can someone enlighten me on the high on Tommy Streeter? I honestly don't see him contributing much in his time here and I read and heard he has HORRIFIC hands. Only thing that jumps out is his height and speed?

Flavor of the week type thing and rumors that were spreading last training camp that he did well

That's not exactly true.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/7403/tommy-streeter

At the NFL Owners Meetings in March, coach John Harbaugh and owner Steve Bisciotti both brought up 2012 sixth-round pick Tommy Streeter when quizzed about how the Ravens will replace Anquan Boldin.

Streeter ran a 4.40 flat official forty time at 6-foot-5, 219 two Februaries ago before redshirting his rookie NFL season. "(The coaching staff) liked Tommy Streeter's development by the end of the year," Bisciotti said. "They thought that he finally started to get what it was like to be a pro." Streeter is a height-weight-speed prospect to keep tabs on during training camp. Apr 17 - 7:51 PM

Head Coach John Harbaugh and Bisciotti also brought up last year's sixth-round pick, Tommy Streetericon-article-link.gif. Streeter was placed on injured reserve when camp ended with a foot injury, giving him essentially a red-shirt season. The 6-foot-5 prospect could be especially dangerous in the red zone.

Seriously? One play -- which if you were fair about it, could ALSO have been called OPI, or both, -- wipes out his last couple months? That's sad if you truly believe that about anyone

I'm going with Streeter on offense and Jimmy on defense.

Holding can't be called when the ball is in the air.

Torrey Smith. I know he has been playing good before but now as a #1 receiver he will be a pro-bowl caliber receiver,

How about jack Cornell as a dark horse candidate to start at lt due to injury or ineffective play. And play well there.

Osemele - kinda obvious, got his first start at guard in the playoffs and flourished from there. with Bmac now back, he can permanently start at LG and dominate with Yanda as the best guard duo in the league for years.

Torrey - while he already has put up good numbers, he will increase that significantly without the erratic offense also known as cam cameron. look for jim caldwell calling for shorter routes starting in TC. With Torrey's speed and hard work, i don't see why he can't perfect his route tree this year. Joe will look for him more anyway with the loss of Q.

Joe - i know, it seems stupid to put his name in here but i see his numbers improving for the same reason as torrey. We all saw what Jim meant to Joe by his 15 TD 1 INT run in those 6 games. Imagine something a little less spectacular (because that is what it was) over a 16 game season.

I say KO makes his first trip to the ProBowl this year with Big Mac coming back, allowing him to stay at guard and control that phone booth area in his OG position. He has the power to play either LG or RG, he has the mauling skill to mow down LBs and DEs and he is quick enough to swing it to the outside on sweep plays. I say he makes up for the loss of Grubs a couple years back and makes this line solid and wreck havoc on defenses through out the league.

Honorable mentions: Tommy Streeter, Deonte Thompson, Benard Pierce, and Michael McAdoo.

He was fantastic at Miami and there is no reason why he shouldn't put it together for us.

I'm his number one fan and still skeptical about him

I'm usually very optimistic and confident in all aspects of our team so I'm not skeptical at all with him.

I can think of a few reasons of why he won't put it together. Not saying it's definitive, but the odds are against him.
