Breakout player of the year award goes to...

Joe Flacco.... He will finally shut those damn critics up....

You know, most of ESPN. Heath Evans.

Screw Breakout player. MVP

I've seen Joe Flacco play with poor pass protection at LT, I wouldn't bet on this one.

Breakout player of the year for me would be Bernard Pierce. He is going to get the ball a lot more in my opinion and him and Rice will be like Taylor and Jones Drew circa 2006-2007

Sure, but it seems to me like people actually have given up on him. It was hard for him to crack the rotation in Cam's system, so I think that's premature. He will get his chance this season, and  I think he has a real chance of breaking out.

exactly how i see it, i think doss is gonna step up now that he has a chance. i see him as more of a derrick mason mold than a boldin, i dont think his physicality will get him catches, i think he will develop a real savvy in finding soft spots and selling his routes to get WIDE open regardless of how "slow" he may be. doss, jimmy, and art jones for breakout players this year

Deonte Thompson, and it is not the first or last time this offseason that I'll claim this.

He impressed the hell out of me last year. It is almost criminal that he wasn't given more opportunities on offense.

Whichever *young* WR ends up starting for us in 2013...

This is with the caveat that we don't sign a stopgap vet. My early money is on Doss.

Omar Brown???

Don't forget this is the guy that the best FS in NFL history said that he reminds him of himself. That's gotta mean SOMETHING

Yeah I know we brought in Huff and drafted Elam but what if Brown beats one of them out in training camp?? Last season Flynn was brought to Seattle to be the guy until they drafted a guy in the 3rd rd by the name of Russell Wilson who only took his starting job, went 11-5 and took his team to the divisional rd.

-Offensive Side

Am I allowed to say Pitta? Lol

W/ the loss of Boldin Joe will need a new go-to-guy and who better than #88? His numbers have gone up every year since his rookie year and I expect next season to be no different. I think he'll be right up there in the convo w/ Gronk and Graham as the best TE's in the league

If the Saints can do it, then it's not ridiculous enough...

As for the defense, it's just like 2006, where we led both in Sacks and INTs. We can do better.

I think it will be the Jimmy as well, at least on D.

On offense I expect Juice to have a pretty big role, but my darkhorse is Tommy Streeter with my super darkhorse being *gasp* David Reed.

I agree about Smith. I think that's exactly what our defense needs to happen to be among the top. Hopefully he can stay heathy all year.

I'm gonna say Dickson. DeCosta's comments yesterday is part of the reason. I think Pitta plays more in the slot, and Dickson tight.
He started to get used more and made some big catches last year after Cam was fired. Most notably in the playoffs.
He's familiar with everyone and has a lot of experience compared to most of our receivers besides Torrey & Pitta. I expect more 2 TE sets again.
Contract year. He knows Pitta is ahead of him right now in the Ravens priority list. He's gonna be highly motivated.

My money's on Doss as well. Perfect compliment to Torrey and now has his shot to take up Boldin's role now that he's gone.

As much as I like Streeter, I have a hard time seeing him as a breakout player. Even though I expect the WR battle to be wide open behind Torrey, I just can't see where Streeter has a early edge on anyone except Gurley and Mellette. Reed, Doss, DT and LQW all play ST as well so if it came down to a tiebreaker type thing, Streeter would be odd man out imo. I actually see him being used a lot like Jacoby was as a WR, kind of a specialty take the top off the defense #2. But not a well rounded number 2 WR. Much like Mason/Boldin blocked younger guys, I think Jacoby blocks Streeter "this year".

If Streeter can have 5-10 catches and maybe a redzone TD or 2, i think that'll be great for him because it means he actually saw the field. But I definitely call dibs on Streeter for breakout player 2014. Haha

I doubt it - on his tombstone Heath Evans will probably have something written to the effect of "Joe Flacco is the luckiest quarterback in history, he doesn't deserve to be on any top 100 list".

Too be a little different I'm going to go with Gino Gradkowski.

Reason 1 - Assuming KO isn't our LT he will be standing to Gino's left and should continue his top level mauling guard play. This should make Gino's job that much easier.

Reason 2 - Marshall Yanda will be standing to Gino's right. Having the a top 2-3 OG in the NFL on one side is a huge plus for any player and should allow Gino to shine and our offense to flourish.

Reason 3 - Sitting a season behind a phenomenal Center in Birk should have given Gino a boost in his development and enable him to thrive this year.

Reason 4 - Caldwell's offense should allow Joe to control the pocket better and get rid of the ball quicker which should even further minimize the pressure Gino will have to deal with.

This factors combined with a high-powered offense behind the line should allow Gino to look like a top-flight Center from the get go.

If I was gonna be generic I would either go Tommy Streeter, Jimmy Smith, or Pernell McPheenom.

Don't forget Juan Castillo.

I say.. Torrey Smith. 3rd year in the league, going to be top 5 in the league in receptions, yards, and TDs.

I agree with this.  We no longer have Boldin and it's Torrey's time to shine.  I see him having at least 80 catches and his first 1000 yard season.  he'll be our #1 this year for the first time in his career.

As for the defense, it's just like 2006, where we led both in Sacks and INTs. We can do better.

Their offense was predicated for Drew Brees. They had no running and and no defense. The only way they were going to win games was by scoing 30 a game on the strength of Brees' arm.

I would love for our DT's to record 5+ sacks but they have been brought b/ they are run stoppers and not pass rusher. Suggs having 16 sacks at the age of 31 fresh off of an Achilles and tricep injury would be nothing short of AMAZING. Not saying it can't happen but you're pretty much saying that 9 of our starting 11 on defense will be pro-bowl players.
Lol it's a bit far-fetched

Jimmy will eventually be better than Webb. Book it!

I admire your optimism, I'm already calling Jimmy a bust.

A wise man once said "Stats are for losers".

Actually, I am concerned, to an extent, on what Flacco's stat line will look like.

On the one hand, we lost Boldin and our starting LT. We have no proven #2 WR.

On the other hand, the way Flacco played after Cameron got out of his way, I dont really think the above matters much

You don't have to be a wise man to know that stats are for losers or people in 2nd place or in this case, people that rather than play on the last Sunday of the regular season, play in the pro-bowl instead.

Stats are also for haters and people that don't care to acknowledge reality.

My darkhorse vote goes to Chykie Brown!!
