Fantasy Football 2013: Who do you hope to get?

244 posts in this topic

You need to clarify that next time.

So if I insult another br.com Fantasy League, then it's perfectly fine with you? :p

I stand by nfl.com fully!  I always Audtodraft and get loaded with stars, like Cam Newton 3 times, Foster 2 times, Marshall 4 times, V-Jax 2 times, Forte 3 times...

You know what, that's exactly what happens! One team I partly drafted and ended up with Peterson and Foster last year. The other team I did not draft and had a very competitive team with Peyton Manning, Victor Cruz, and Stevan Ridley.

I was just doing NFL because I planned not to participate in Fantasy at all last season. Then I figured, I may as well try NFL since it's always 'never too late to join'

Am I the only one starting to think that fantasy won't be as fun this year? I think it's always fun if you have some knowledge...more than the other guys who base everything on last year, and it's always fun if everyone has the same level of intel, but it seems to me that if you're playing in a league of 12 or 14, there won't be enough star RBs for a full 12 round selection, there won't be enough star WRs for a full 2 rounds, you have to play best guess with the TEs. Just seems like it's going to suck unless you're in a league with 2 QBs and multiple defensive players (which I know a lot of people cry about)

That's why I was opposed to having my League expand to 12 teams.  Oh well, it should still be fun.

Actually there are more of the top level rbs this year than last. I count 8 compared to 6 for last year. And 12 teams is better for a knowledgeable owner. 10 levels the playing field more and bunches the teams more to the middle of the pack by default.

Nah.  Fantasy football is always fun.  And what you describe as the downside is the part I enjoy the most.  I don't want teams to be packed full of studs.  I want to take a chance on a deep draftee that I like, who isn't a stud.

That's why I was opposed to having my League expand to 12 teams.  Oh well, it should still be fun.

10 teams are for anybody.  They are stacked full of studs, the waiver wire is packed.  Its not that hard to be competitive.

12 teams require a little more drafting skill and some luck.

14+ teams usually require experience and more skill and a lot more luck.  The waiver wire is slim.

But all in all, any league is fun.  They each require different approaches.  But the consistent thing in being competitive is to stay active and do a little homework.

Last year I did a league with IDP and valued Sacks and turnovers heavily for defenders to somewhat take emphasis off RB's and WR's. Got Aldon Smith and Watt in the mid rounds and Watt was like the 10th highest scoring player in the league lol. I enjoyed having a balanced league that required good drafting at all positions rather than requiring a star RB.

i'm all on board with you. I just have found that a lot of people cry about having to have more than 1 defensive player and then just as many cry about having to have a 1 single defensive player period.

Ya I don't get it. I think IDP is just way more fun. Basically assembling a full team.

First pick and second pick in the two leagues I'm in. So it would seem my first selections are very set in stone barring injuries (AP and Foster). I'll take it, as long as im not in that pick 4-6 mess of randomness. I gotta say that Doug Martin, Jamaal Charles, and CJ Spiller all have the same feeling of potential imo.

I would take everyone you mentioned over foster. I say a combo of age, injury and weakened o line brings him back to the pack.

1st pick you should go AP no doubt.  The 2nd pick is really up in the air.  I can make a good case for Doug Martin as the #2 overall pick or Charles in a ppr.

For some reason in every draft I've done over the past several years, its always a late first round pick.  Would love a top pick for a change.  (Especially in JO's 1 RB league).

weakened o-line you say...hmmm. What's the damage if you don't mind me asking? Age/Injury haven't been part of my consideration at all, isn't he like 26?

edit: I just don't have confidence in Doug Martin. iirc, he had like 2 amazing games and then the rest were hardly something to be excited about. And the game where he really showed up was when his team was against me, so I got a frudge working against his favor as well lol

His workload.  He's young, but he took on a massive workload last year which sometimes can breakdown a RB.  His YPC has decreased over the last three years as he's seen his work increase.  400+ carries last year over 18 games is like driving a crazy amount of miles on new tires in one year.

The o-line isn't bad, but it isn't elite anymore.  Some of the pieces are aging (Smith), and others are coming off injuries (Smith & Newton).  If Ben Tate can stay healthy, one would think they would preserve Foster a bit more for the playoffs.

With that being said.  Foster still has a great nose for the endzone.  Will be used a lot on a team that likes to run.  But there is some risk.  I have ranked as my #3 back.  But its easily debatable.

I took Charles #2 in an ESPN mock and got crucified by everyone in the draft to the point they said I was "making a mockery of people who actually play fantasy football"... Like half of em left the draft lobby... It was a bit ridiculous.

I would take charles over foster every day. I don't consider him number two but that's far from a mocery. The idea that reid won't feature charles isridiculous. Look how well the feature eagle back has scored consistently under reid.

I've seen that done when someone drafts a QB in the 1st.  They all jump on the guy and say "Get a clue" or something of that effect.  Its pretty stupid.

I can't believe they would jump on you for Charles.  According to the fantasy pro's website, many 'experts' have Charles as #2 including CBS's Jaime Eisenberg, and FFToolBox.  And that's for standard.  In ppr some even have him ranked as #1.

Charles is my no.2 this year... The funny thing is Rogers went no.1 and no one said a thing...

I can see the validity in arguments against Doug Martin.

But even if you take away that Oakland game he still finished with 1200 yards and 8 TDs.  That's damn good for a rookie.  Then you consider that the offensive line play should be better (elite if they can stay healthy), and a much defense so they won't have to abandon the run.  There is a lot of upside for Martin in this offense/team to like.

If you have him as #2, and Rodgers went #1, isn't AP your #1?  Maybe that's why they jumped on you.

How high would you draft Megatron?

if he gets TDs this year he could easily repeat his fantasy performance. I might consider it as early as 4th or 5th but with some planning for finding running backs later. That could be a headache.

I feel like if you could get him at the typical 8 it's a steal, then you might still get a Ridley or Steven Jackson with Frank Gore or Demarco Murray. There's others obviously for 2nd and 3rd round RB picks, but that's how I might try and play it out.

No need to sweat RBs!  There's MJD, Pierre Thomas, Lamarr Miller, David Wilson...

For me the sweet spot is 7th overall in a ppr, probably 8th or 9th in a standard league.

Deandre Hopkins recently caught my attention as a target but I know someone else who is also going for him. I got last pick in the 10th, first in the 11th (10 person non ppr) and I was thinking he would be worth one of those selections. Too early? I've seen him go as late at 15th round.

tbh outside ppr, charles is probably a reach at #2. I would definitely choose Foster over Charles at that point, and would probably take Martin over him as well.
