Fantasy Football 2013: Who do you hope to get?

244 posts in this topic

One thing I will say is that the Baltimore Defense is incredibly undervalued this year.  I think we all know it's going to be much better this year, probably top 5 overall.

This is true.  When I do mocks on ESPN, 90% of the time I get to draft the Ravens defense in the 2nd to last round.

Now in a BR or a league w/ a lot of Ravens fans, I don't ever expect to draft the Ravens D.

Never ever again will I go near Frank Gore again in my Fantasy career...

Why, because of Kaep?

Why, because of Kaep?

The 2 seasons that I got him, can't remember if they were consecutive or not because I have had years where I played in 3 leagues, the guy never played a 16 game schedule. And it hurt me

That's where people's ignorance bites them. They listen to the garbage that the national feeds them...or neglects to feed them depending on how you look at it.

I think I picked them in an early round in in 2006. Probably like in the 5th round. I don't know that they need to go that early, but I don't think it's too early assuming you pick WR, WR, QB, RB in a 1 QB league. This is probably a year where they will be scoring more points than top 5 tight ends and top whatever WRs on a weekly basis...at least the potential could very well be there. I know I'm willing to take that chance. Obviously depends on the league roster setup

Whenever he DOES play, he's a beast, though.

Who do you draft first, Ks or Ds?

I draft D first. That season I went D in the 5th or 6th round because we just got McNair and I knew his addition would make the defense much much better.

This is true for last year.

I'm actually in a yahoo 14 team mock draft as we speak and Brees just went 27th overall.  If this was a 12 team league, that's third round.

I would suggest no one else put too much stock into these mock drafts. I'm doing one now and someone just took Jimmy Graham with the 6th overall selection

People use mock drafts to test strategies, so in a sense you are correct. But, in my experience people who do mocks in general are more informed than the average fantasy player and they give a good indication of how your actual draft may go.

I agree that they are more informed. I did a league with random people a couple years back and people were taking WR's and QB's in the first 2 rounds. First running back didn't come off the board til round 3. Very strange.

To re-iterate an earlier post, I think it was PuRock, peeps are not going in the direction of Baltimore defense.

One thing that has always threw me for a loop is how people stick with the Yahoo rankings and ignore player injuries from a year ago...or revamped offenses and defenses.

There will always be outliers. I put stock in mock drafts in terms of my decision making and rankings. Like when given the choice between two players, do I trust my rankings?

Do enough mocks, you get a great sense of player values. Jimmy's ADP is around mid to late 2nd round. If you do 20 mock drafts the average will usually be around his ADP. I personally have not seen him go in the 1st yet.

Do you generally do 10 person mocks?

I only wish I could get on expert drafts or something . All the public mocks always have people who draft one or two rounds and leave. Then your a slave to that site's rankings.

Usually 12 team leagues, as I prep for my money league the most.  But I will hit up Yahoo's 14 team mock drafts to better help with the big BR drafts.

Speaking of which, you can even do Yahoo mock drafts via their updated app.  Load your own rankings for mocks (which most of the other sites don't allow you to do).  Yahoo always tends to impress me with their fantasy football platform.

Funny...I think you were the one that said you were addicted to mocks. I took a breather from what I was doing, thought of that statement when I sat down in front of the laptop and decided to start that mock. Just did another and the guy went in the 1st round again. No lie. Could have been the same guy from the other one.

I hear you on the decision and rankings. I had Montee Ball and Leveon Bell available to me and I thought I might get them later as sleepers. They both went and I ended up with the carolina kid as my 2nd RB. Then I was looking at Cecil Shorts vs Denarius Moore not sure how to rank them because both have funny QB situations but those guys are going off the board early enough. You guys are right...there is something to be gained. One other thing I noticed is that I'm not the only one that's nervous about pulling the trigger on one of the Denver WRs even though Thomas is going off the board early

Yahoo is by far THEE best. I've played all of them. NFL is crap. I'm not too high on CBS but I think that's one that you have to have done several times to really understand their interface. It's been years since I've done ESPN...it's definitely no Yahoo

I am, they help me with my rankings.

I switch between ESPN, Yahoo, CBS, and occasionally other sites.  Each site has their own preloaded rankings which affects ADP, and the autopilot picks in the later rounds.  I don't like to get accustomed to any one site's rankings.

But each site's mock drafts have their advantages.  CBS has great in-draft analysis of players.  ESPN has a friendly interface and generates a lot of traffic.  Yahoo always seems to be ahead of the curve in terms of options and technology.

I wouldnt go that far. It will be much better but its not invulnerable. Its all paper football now.

I see cornerback as ? mark for now.

I stand by nfl.com fully!  I always Audtodraft and get loaded with stars, like Cam Newton 3 times, Foster 2 times, Marshall 4 times, V-Jax 2 times, Forte 3 times...

I thought you might be insulting my draft acumen. Rather out league's draft acumen.

You're not even in the League I was talking about, lol.
