Fantasy Football 2013: Who do you hope to get?

244 posts in this topic

Too bad they play on separate teams now! :P  Manning and Thomas could be nice, though.

I think Sizzle had that combo in ATD's league after he made a trade.  Worked out nicely for him if I recall.

Manning has a cake SOS (QB) this year.

If I had a top 3 pick, it'd be between Peterson and Brees. If I got Brees, I'd be doing that with the idea of getting Graham to go along with him. That seems to be the most legit QB/WR/TE combo out there that I can think of right now.

Matt whatshisname to Julio would be good. Romo/Bryant would be better. Cutler/Marshall wouldn't be bad since neither of those 2 would go real high...but Cutler is who he is and even w/the new coach/coordinator I don't know how much I trust him

I would be thanking my lucky stars picking behind you. If you don't take one of the top 8 running backs you have no chance to win really. Then I would take megeatron at 9 then running back 10 through 15. Please take qbs throughout the first round.

That's a steep price to pay for Brees.  I've gotten him in the 3rd round on a few occasions.  I rarely see him go in the 1st.  Unless it is a 2 QB league.

I've never had Brees and I've never seen him go later than Round 1. He puts the points up though and you know Graham is a tough matchup for most defenses. I think having a good combo makes your season. It can break you for 1 or 2 games but duds are inevitable over the 16 week season

Now I will say this - I've played CBS, Yahoo, ESPN, and last year for the first time I did NFL. NFL in my opinion is the worst league and you see a lot of random things happening in the draft. I mean, I thought I was playing with some JV people. I got Foster and Peterson in the 1st and 2nd round I think. Sure a lot of folk thought Peterson would have a down year so I understand why he might slip in the draft, but the man is a football player that likes to hit the gym....and he just fell to me...everybody passed on him.

Same year I had Ravens D...well, I guess I had them numerous times, that year I had Manning and Wayne and there was a game they played at Mile High. Peyton only threw 3 TDs and they all went to Wayne.

I had both Decker and Thomas last year. I had another stud receiver that either always got the nod or got the nod based on the competition and I'd have to guess who is going to have the bigger game today, Decker or Thomas. I started the right man on Saturday when Denver played Baltimore the Sunday. Sunday came around and said you know what - I'm switching it up and plugging Thomas in there....much to my chagrin.

I think this year will be the same situation - you will have a hard time guessing between Decker, Thomas, and Welker which is why I don't think he's a good fit for that particular strategy

This is true for last year.

I'm actually in a yahoo 14 team mock draft as we speak and Brees just went 27th overall.  If this was a 12 team league, that's third round.

Don't get it twisted. My strategy would be to take Peterson. I've always been a RB guy and more so now than ever since there are only a number of feature running backs left. But after Peterson, you have Foster, and then there's a slight drop-off to Beast Mode not because he's not the same kind of stud, but just because he doesn't put up gaudy numbers.

You may need to take a calculated risk. Yeah there's Doug Martin and CJ Spiller, rising stars, but those guys play for crappy teams. That's part of the risk - go box office QB or go with a guy that can produce consistently, but whose bad team play will catch up to his play ---------> CJ2K, Matt Forte can never finish the season, Stephen Jax is beyond great but I don't think his numbers have reflected that lately,

Is PurRock your real life name, lol

It's what I use to play fantasy, since I do a lot of BR leagues.  No one calls me by that nickname in real life anymore, not since my college days.

How'd you get that nickname, lol?

Well maybe that's cause you play in an exclusive league of people that know what they are doing. B)

I'm speechless. I guess everyone is going with the QBs that signed the big money contracts...no idea

I never take running backs in the first round and rarely the 2nd round yet I've won my league twice... If you draft well everywhere else you can definitely build a championship fantasy team. Although I've never had a top 5 pick.

Not to spoil my rb rankings soon to be posted but I predict a new top scoring running back and he doesn't play for a top ranked team and due to age and workload and injury history foster a top player you mentioned will fall several spots.

Are we talking about Run DMC? That's the only person playing for a loser that I think fits the bill. Unless you are referring to Spiller or  Martin

Foster has always been part of a great system. For a guy who gets a full load, it's impressive how he doesn't miss significant time. Has he been nicked up w/more than a calf or hamstring in the past? Hamstrings are a problem for everybody you know

Hmmm.  Martin, Spiller, Charles, or McCoy?  All of these guys have the potential, and play for horrid teams.  Unless you are going w/ unproven.

Nah, the running back for PHI now has Bryce Brown on his back.  Same goes for Spiller/Jackson.  I'm guessing he was referring to Martin.

Or Lamar Miller.  Seems to be the 'Doug Martin' in this year's draft even though he isn't a rookie.

Assuming he wins the job over Daniel Thomas.

I thought about McCoy, but then this isn't the first year that people would have been saying that

I don't believe that's a legitimate worry. Hell Mike Gillislee might actually be Miller's handcuff.

You aren't privy to that information :)

But, I'm in the 10,000 Club! :O  I promise I won't tell anyone.

I did have that combo. It was hit or miss. Manning was always a stud, but Demaryius was up and down. Some games he'd save me and others he wouldnt do anything due to injury/spread the wealth offense/gameplanned for him etc...

Anyway so i got the #4 pick in my money league (ppr 10 teams)

First two picks are probably gonna be AD, and Foster but after that could be anyone. Ideas?

I've got #4 in a 16-team league myself, in a few mocks I've had either Doug Martin or Jaamal Charles as the top guys, though in my league I'm even considering what my team would look like if I took Rodgers/Brees at 4 and then went RB and WR heavy after that.

Agreed.  Doug Martin in a ppr is even going #2 overall in a lot of mocks I've done.  He should be one of the top 4 picks.  Jamaal Charles as well.

I'm having flashbacks of '07/'08 Brian Westbrook when it comes to Charles.  I used to love drafting Westbrook then, so I'm feeling the same about Charles now.  I've never liked Charles, but this year I'm on board.

Im actually feeling Calvin Johnson because in a 10 team league I believe that either AJ, Dez, or Marshall will make it back to me. There are plenty of sleepers at RB I can take and still be okay (MJD, Gore)

I ended up with

Matt Ryan

Megatron

Marshall

Jones Drew

Gore

Welker

Ridley

Deangelo Williams

Mark Ingram

Greg Jennings

Mike Williams

Tyler Eifert

Phil Dawson

Baltimore Defense

in a recent mock I did.

If I could get this line, or anything close, in my 16 team league I'd go nuts lol

One thing I will say is that the Baltimore Defense is incredibly undervalued this year.  I think we all know it's going to be much better this year, probably top 5 overall.

You should definitely go Doug Martin. You have at least 16 QBs that can get the job done. Today's NFL has only about 6 or 7 feature backs. Their rushing yards alone will give you decent numbers and then they'll probably get in the endzone when you need them to the most. The other guys might get in the endzone once on 49 yards rushing and then catch a few balls for 60 yds but the biggest concern is they can be real erratic and not come through in the clutch when you really need them to.
