Defensive Rookie of The Year Is Who? Matt Elam or Arthur Brown?

                                 Defensive Rookie of The Year?

With,  Strong Safely  Matt Elam being drafted in the 1st Round, it's look like Matt Elam will be the starter  at Strong Safety, and the same goes to Inside Linebacker Arthur Brown, who's was drafted in the 2nd Round of The Draft, so it's look like our top two picks in this draft will starts on defense this upconing season. So my question is who's has the better chance of winning Defensive Rookie of The Year Matt Elam or Arthur Brown.

Both, must replace future Hall of Flamers in Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. First, by getting started letting say that both of these players can win Defensive Rookie of The Year. We all don't  know  if the injuries bug will play a role in who's will win the Defensive Rookie of The Year. So, let's say at Matt Elam and Arthur Brown stays healthy and played all 16 games, and have impressed rookies number, and mostly importanly help The Baltimore Ravens win Football games. I said win football games because I know that stats will have the outcome of who's win Defensive Rookie of The Year, but wins will goes into the voting too.

My pick to win Defensive Rookie of  The Year is MLB Arthur Brown, don't get me wrong Matt Elam is a good choice too. But, what led me to my decison was the Ray Lewis factor, first I will say that nobody will ever replace ''The Great Ray Lewis''. But, with at said I think Arthur Brown will impressed in his rookie season, not saying at Matt Elam won't, but I think at The Middle Linerback Position was a bigger need than Srong Safely for The Baltimore Ravens. I ain't going to predicts stats, but I believe Arthur Brown could  be a 100 tackles man in The NFL.

Use whatever Defensive Rookies on The Baltimore Ravens, I just thoughts that Matt Elam and Arthur Brown has a better chance of winning Defensive Rookie Of The Year from The Baltimore Ravens, not to court out Brandon Williams, John Simon, Lewis-Moore, and Marc Anthony, But I felt at Matt Elam and Arthur Brown will started right way and play a key role for The Baltimore Ravens.

Sincerely,

Brent Wright

Probably Brown. Its pretty difficult for a strong safety to win DROY. Eric Berry had a tremendous rookie year and he didn't even win it. Now I do think Elam will be good for us this coming season, probably All-rookie team. He should have a way better rookie season than Mark Barron who was picked 7th overall a year ago.

If you want my unbiased opinion then honestly neither and it has nothing to do with talent. Brown & Elam will be compared heavily to both departed veterans. I think the media will diminish their accomplishments as a result. If I had to pick, it would be Elam. Elam is a bit more of a playmaker than Brown. He has highlight hits. I'm not saying Brown isn't that kind of player or can't be. I'm saying I think Elam's play will initially translate better to the DROY competition.

Elam's hits will bring the noise and media attention. Brown will dominate silently. There's a lot of people who lead the league in tackles and no one knows who they are, I have a feeling Brown will be that way.

I also think that Elam will win the Raven's DROY.  He's on the fastest track to start and will see heavy playing time.  I think he makes the biggest spash in his rookie year.

Is the timing of this question a bit pre-mature? Can we talk about it after pre-season OR after week 2 so that we don't unknowingly "jinx" either???

I think he means dpoy or us, not the league. I think brown as well.

League wise its bound t be a sack Guy. Ziggy ansah in the wide nine, Dion Jordan with wake opposite him, jones with Woolley opposite him, them types of guys that might hit 10 sacks

I think the opposite thing will happen to brown when looking at him. I like ray as much as the next fan but in the last couple of yrs his play has been diminishing on the field. And when brown comes in his play will be evaluated more favorably because he is being compared to ray. Granted I could see it going down either way so who knows.

Last Five DROY:

2012: Luke Kuechly - 164 tackles - 1 sack - 3 FR - 2 INT - 8 PD

2011: Von Miller - 64 tackles - 11.5 sacks - 2 FF - 4 PD

2010: Ndamukong Suh - 66 tackles - 10 sacks - 1 FF - 1 INT - 3 PD

2009: Brian Cushing - 134 tackles - 5 sacks - 2 FF - 4 INT - 10 PD - (PED Postive Test/Suspension)

2008: Jerod Mayo - 128 tackles - 1 FF - 1 FR - 4 PD

Possible Ravens DROY:

Matt Elam - His best college stats were 76 tackles (11 TFL) - 2 sacks - 1 FF - 4 INT - 9 PD

Arthur Brown - His best college stats were 100 tackles (7 TFL) - 1 sack - 2 INT - 6 PD

I feel our rookies have a shot for DROY since they're both very productive players in college and well-rounded too.

DROY normally goes to a LB or pass-rusher, so I would think Brown is the leading candidate. He should start from Day 1 and I imagine he will put up some impressive numbers  as a 3 down LB.

It will be tough going up against some quality pass-rushers though.

Arthur Brown behind our stacked defensive line. He's gonna have like 20 tackles a game.

If our Dline is playing good... why would be have 20 tackles per game....?

Because that means the Dline is taking up blocks allowing our LBs to make plays. How do you think Ray Lewis had all those 150+ tackle seasons? He was a great player, but he played behind an excellent line that kept him clean.

Exactly like gabe said, the defensive lineman eat up blockers and the linebackers are able to shoot the gaps and make plays. 20 tackles is obviously somewhat of an exaggeration, but Brown will certainly be given the opportunity to make a ton of tackles.

Ya, it generally is unless a rookie has a phenomenal all around year.  Fortunately in the case of Ansah, Jordan and Jones all they'll be asked to do is just get up field 90% of the time with total disregard for rush D.  Especially in Ansah's case, Detroit is starving for outside pressure.

If I was betting money it would be on Jordan to win DROY due to their defensive line & having Wake across from him. I hate the schematic fit, however. I like him better in the 3-4

If Ngata and company do their jobs, they'll have a good amount of tackles them selfs... 20 tackles a game . thats not gonna happen.. Ngata takes on 3 lineman every time... remember? lol. now we jus need 2 more blocks... haha
A stout run defense ... Generally, doesn't have to have LBs always making plays.

Sacks and/or tackles - that's what a DROY needs. Even huge INT years like Jairus Byrd with 9 or Devin McCourty with 7 won't get it.

Well I think 20 tackles a game is bit of an exaggeration, but a good Dline will make the LBs look that much better.

really hope we make a play for him in FA next year. Him and Elam would be the best safety tandem in the league. Probably won't happen though, will cost too much.

Lol, NOW who's drinking the koolaid :P.  The 120 combined tackles I definitely buy if he earns a starting gig.  8 INTs as an ILB is insanity, think Lewis has the most since I can remember by an ILB with 6.

Sharrif Floyd has a decent shot, alongside Kevin Williams and Jared Allen he won't get too much attention. Dee Milliner could get some picks and take it if nobody gets more than 6 sacks. Te'o already has a head start from name recognition, so if he gets 120+ tackles he'll probably get it.

Out of our guys, hard to say. Brandon Williams is going to be good, but that rotation is too deep to make a huge impact. Same with John Simon at OLB. I suspect Elam will blow some coverages, miss some tackles, Arthur Brown will take some wrong pursuit angles, have some fullbacks smack him, these things happen to rookies. Depending on our pass rush, I could see Elam grabbing a few picks and forcing some fumbles with TFL's to put him in possible contention. Arthur Brown's range should open up a lot of chances to make big plays, though, it's hard to say.

Shariff will never win.  He's disruptive as all hell, but his stats won't ever reflect his dominance (if he is).
