LT Position Resolved ?

302 posts in this topic

The Chiefs want a 2nd round pick for Brandon Albert. We could easily trade them that, or a 3rd and a 5th becuase we are going to get a lot of compensations picks next year because of Ellerbe, Kruger, Reed, Cary, and maybe McKinnie.

With the cap left, I feel Ozzie will bring in a free agent or two to provide stability for OT spots and TE.

Demetress Bell

Jared Gaither

Winston Justice

Eric Winston

Tyson Clabo

Bryant McKinnie

Max Starks

These guys will come cheap since they're on the after-draft phase of free agency.

Bell lost the starting job on the Eagles. Would he be an upgrade over Oher or KO? Nope.

Gaither is lazy and used injuries, who were never serious, to not play. Would he be an upgrade over Oher or KO? Nope.

Winston Justice is more of RT. And we don't really have problems there. I think the same applies to Eirc Winston and Clabo. I am not sure though.

Max Starks? I don't know how I feel about picking up Olinemen from the Steelers. Seems like a bad plan.

Resigning McKinnie would probably be the best thing we could do at this point, but I would imagine that his relationship with Harbs is difficult after last season.

I'm not the biggest fan of those guys you mentioned. I wouldn't mind getting Clabo or Winston because you would solidify every spot on the OL except LT and you can put a TE like Furst or KJ to block.

You might have noticed, that I am not a fan of them either. The sad truth is, that unless something crazy happens, (kinda doubt a team would let even a competent LT go) McKinnie is the best LT available in FA.
It's really tempting to forget what a problemchild this guy is, because it's sooooo hard to get over how well he did in the playoffs.

Yeah as sad as that is I think you may be right but I certainly hope we can get a better option. I'm concerned about our left tackle situation as much as anyone.

A guy I forgot about is Doug Free. He had a bad year this year switching to RT and was terrible in 2011 but people forget in 2010 he was terrific as a blindside pass protector.

If he gets released and it looks very possible then maybe we sign him like McKinnie. Just a different idea.

This is true .Even an overweight, out of shape Mckinnie can be difficult to get around because he has the protypical

LT size.

That awkward moment, when you realize that Kyle Boller had better pass protection than our first franchise QB. Are we sure, that JO can't play anymore? Has anyone called the guy? Am I really stuck hoping, that no one will try to sign McKinnie?

Lol. It does feel like we're scraping the bottom of the barrel

Well, somewhat. I think that Oher would still be "fine" as our LT (penalties notwithstanding) and I wouldn't bet against KO after that great rookie season he had, but for the first time we are really investing heavily in Joe. Once you have a franchise QB you want a franchise LT to keep him protected. That's why we are all panicking a bit.

The Oline performed well against the Bengals in last seasons opener. What was the line up in that game? I think Harewood was in the mix (as left guard I believe).

Maybe we can run the pistol, without  a LT. Joe can run, or handoff, depending what the defensive end does.

This may allow us to get another one of our standout wide receivers on the field.

If we were able to successfully trade Michael Oher (3.785M) to the Jags for Monroe (3.8M) so it would be a wash, really. Still, I would be really happy with that move.

He said Leach and Oher.

I actually wouldn't mind bringing back Gaither if it was on a Rolando type deal. He would probably sign for cheap considering how much SD just gave him. You say he was lazy and used injuries as an excuse, but I don't think that is true. The injuries are and were legitimate. He has been very good when healthy. I don't know if you have ever dealt with back injuries of any sort, but I will tell you from personal experience they can be debilitating.

Dude is a punk. After getting paid by SD he started to complain about back spasms. All the trainers believed him to be fine and he was faking the injuries.. Numerous players stated how they wouldn't even look or talk to Gaither in the locker room and openly stated they wouldn't be on the team next year if he was.

Well he certainly is worse then grabbing Mckinnie . Man, we are scraping the bottom of the barrel as GrimCoconut said.

Lol. McKinnie VS. Gaither: the battle for the Harbaugh doghouse.

That's one monster-sized doghouse.

I find our left tackle situation amusing. I'm sure it's frustrating for John because he has to deal with one diva left tackle after another. Probably why he keeps sticking Oher there.

Ogden career was wasted away behind mediocre at best qbs. Such a Shame

Yea thats a great point... I can't imagine having Ogden on this team, with this offensive line. RIDICULOUS.

I may be remembering incorrectly but I thought Minnesota cut McKinnie because they drafted Kalil. I thought they first drafted Kalil then cut him.

Kalil was drafted in 2012. McKinnie joined the Ravens in 2011.

Whatever. He is talented. Back problems caused him to lose a season in Baltimore. You honestly believe he just refuses to play? Maybe that's true, but if he was healthy and given an incentive laden deal he could fill a huge hole for cheap.

i think this argument of how injured is he, how much was his attitude is beaten to death at this point. He's not worth the headache either way

Rolando was though? I'll admit that Gaither was a pain in the butt, but when he was on the field he was a dominant player. It's obviously very unlikely, but he seems to be motivated by money. Give him a chance on a SB contender with an incentive laden contract. I dont see the downside. If he just turns out to be a bad apple, he can be cut for no loss.
