LT Position Resolved ?

302 posts in this topic

Jared Gaither hardly let us down... he was a 5th round pick.

Is that what they gave up for him? Because remember Gaither was a Supplemental Draft pick but I never knew what pick we forfeited for him. When Gaither was playing well, I kept thinking wow this guy was a Supplemental pick and might be our LT for years to come.

Fast-Forward to now, Gaither had some type of injury was demoted to RT then didn't play at all, joins the Chiefs earns a check and never practices or anything, then gets with the Chargers teases them with some great games, gets a contract and then pulls the old I'm injured card on them.

Smh a real bum.

you guys are mental to even mention us to pick in the top ten - geesh and you call yourselves fans; i'd much rather have winning seasons 'till we play the game on the moon than fantasize for players like that - a team plays the game, not the individual

It was mainly a hypothetical situation where Joe got hurt and the team went into the toilet was how we would get a top 10 pick, I don't think anyone was actually predicting/hoping it would happen lol

It's not like anyone is hoping for a top 10 pick, it was simply mentioned ( and is a fact ) that with Flacco having been paid as the Franchise QB he needs to have a LT to protect him and not constantly put the Oher's of the world there, Flacco is a tough guy, but injuries do happen, and not having the blindside protected is basically inviting some unforeseen hit to cause something.

why not wait see how training camp pans out first before panicking all out?

a trade could be done at any time if one's willing to make a good offer - i'd rather give a first and a player for a proven LT that is already in the game than have a top 10 pick; you could end up losing twice - the season and the drafted player not to pan out

i wonder why he's not a raven anymore then...

Sure he could have been better, but it's hard to be let down by a 5th round supplemental pick.  If he cracks the starting lineup thats a good investment.  I just don't see how we could have been viewing him as a building block.

I'm thinking that we should give the guys on the roster a chance to win the job.  It may come down to choosing between Oher and Osemele.  There is a chance that we can pick up someone that gets cut near the end of training camp.

it's not that he's not good, 'cause he's a very capable LT - he let us all down with his bad attitude

investment wise we paid him a year to warm the bench too

Oh, I see where you're coming from now.  Sorry about the confusion.

I think whatever we do we leave Oher and Osemele alone. As it is we have a new starting center and now have to figure out LT. I'd just assume grab someone and leave the rest of the line in their current spots. We seem to be a team in constant "tinker" mode with our OL and it ends up costing us. Except this time when we did it before the playoffs it worked. So I'm all for leaving it be now.

If there ever was something I felt very strongly about, it is bringing Big Mac back... it is critical to Flacco's continued success. First you clip his wings by trading Boldin away, then you try to cut his feet off by not bringing McKinnie back? Totally foolish and unacceptable!

I agree entirely. Said it a hundred times and I'll say it again. "You never let a shut down left tackle go." Yes he's fat and lazy but he blocks EVERYBODY! Made the Pro Bowl protecting Favre's blind side. Minnesota let him go and had to draft a left tackle, Kalil, high in the draft the next year

I may be remembering incorrectly but I thought Minnesota cut McKinnie because they drafted Kalil. I thought they first drafted Kalil then cut him.

McKinnie was cut the year before Kalil was drafted.

McKinnie showed up to camp fat and the team was like 'Enough!' pack your bags.  Good 'ole McKinnie.

I don't think Oz is done yet.  With the drafting of Kyle.  Leach can be expended to enable them to make one last move for a LT/WR (either by cuts or trade, or McKinnie).

We could try to rip off the jags.

Send Leach and Oher over to them for Monroe. They can move Jockell to LT, and have a RT.

Then, they get a FB who can do a damn good job for Blocking  for MJD.

We get a  Franchise LT.

Actually, that's somewhat reasonable.

Let me add more, if it costs us a pick(not a first) next year, IDC. DO IT

Well, it may be a little late to get McKinnie now! I understand he took a physical today with Miami and was tweeting around in 'caps' like a deal was imminent... if he passes the physical, I think the plan is to sign with Miami.... I just think we are being a little complacent with Big Mac under the assumption that we have Juan Castillo and he can thread an offensive line with existing players! I don't know if we can get a left tackle of Big Mac's caliber this year....

It looks like there could be some gun LTs in next year's draft. Could the FO be waiting to snipe someone long-term?

If that were the case, I could almost see one of these depth guys getting plugged at LG with Kelechi at LT - as much as I hate the idea.

Do you really think this is acceptable with a MVP Super Bowl QB who just proved to the world that if you give him just a little extra time he will carve up the best defenses the NFL has to offer? I don't.

Nobody except Harbaugh and Ozzie seem to know... I totally agree with you. This is setting up a $120MM investment in a junk bond!

Talk about a dream scenario. That would actually free up cap space too, maybe to sign Winston or Clabo. At this point though I would just be happy with a RT that I can trust.

Considering its the jags, they might do it!

For the Dolphins this makes perfect...........what the hell are they thinking?!??!?  It's M.I.A.M.I for pete's sake.  He'll be M.I.A throughout the year.

"Sorry Dolphins my client, Bryant McKinnie is running late to your game against the Patriots......Back Issues"

If we were able to successfully trade Michael Oher (3.785M) to the Jags for Monroe (3.8M) so it would be a wash, really. Still, I would be really happy with that move.

I can imagine what the strip club owners in Miami will be thinking.

"People can put anything out there. What strip club gives you a $375,000 tab? It just sounds stupid to me."

The kind of strip club who will let in a professional football player who makes millions of dollars and allows him to do whatever he wants as he runs up the bill.  Sounds logical to me.

McKinnie just window shopping for the best rates.

It's a shame that we didn't lock him up for one year, but then it would be unwise to give a lot of money on someone who already proven to have work ethic/weight problems.

There's still other OTs like Tyson Clabo and Eric Winston, but those guys are RTs.

Possible LTs on team:

Michael Oher - Serviceable RT / ineffective LT

Kelechi Osemele - Versatile OL / but bested suited for LG

Jah Reid - Versatile OL / but been ineffective at LG and RT

Ricky Wagner - Depth OT / Probably best suited for guard

Jack Carroll - Developmental OT

Roger Gaines - Developmental OT - High Upside due to Size, Arm Length, and Demeanor

It's going to be a crapshoot at LT.

Nothing like a 120 mil investment in Joe with a piker protecting his blind side .

There were a lot of good tackles taken in the draft. My guess is Ozzie is waiting to pick up a cut veteran to be our stopgap solution, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing either.

Exactly what I was thinking & how we picked up several good players in the past
