Wide Receivers

I thought I would start a thread where we could talk about our WRs, since we will likely see them more often this season.

Our WRs:

Torrey Smith
Jacoby Jones
Tandon Doss
Deonte Thompson
Tori Gurley
Tommy Streeter
LaQuan Williams
Aaron Mellette

UDFA additions:
Trent Steelman
Omarius Hines
Ray Holley
Gerrard Sheppard

I'll start the thread by asking, who would you like to see the most improved over off season? Do you think any recent additions will make it to the roster? I like Mellette and I would like to see Streeter & Doss improve. I'd love to see any of those three improve and be able to be our #2 receiver.

I'm glad you started this.

Like DHS said, I wish we got Allen or Rogers. Kinda bummed there, but more especially sad by us not getting Quinton Patton one pick before us. Man, that really bothered me.

I like Mellette. Unlike the projects we've picked up in the past, he actually catches the ball with his HANDS, not his body. Super small school so he was overlooked, might be fruitful for us.

You don't say.

Seeing "49ers select Quinton Patton, WR" one pick before us on my phone killed me. I really wanted him and I'm sure Ozzie did too.

He isn't very strong and most of our receviers already had trouble with corners getting physical with them. I guess, that's what we will most miss after losing Boldin.

Yeah he was overlooked, to be honest I was surprised at receivers in the 5th and 6th rounds getting selected and not seeing his name. I'm glad we picked him up and I'm hoping we can make him better. I really like the way he plays, and improvement never hurts.

You know what would be freaking awesome?

Tommy Streeter panning out this year

Streeter or Thompson. I got some high hopes for those cats, as Mili would say.

What? Every report I've read has talked about how strong he is.

A lot of the time he can get the catch though. He had some pretty good numbers, although he did go to a small school. He can sneak around corners and get it. He does remind me of Anquan Boldin a bit. I feel like we'll be able to work with his height and speed and be able to increase his productivity.

Actually never mind, just read something on BR echoing what you said.

9 reps on the bench.

That would be really great.  We need at least one guy currently on the roster to produce or we're really screwed.

I agree. Especially with that height of his. It would be great.

I wasn't a huge Harper fan, but that guy is strong like a bull. 20 reps on the bench. Mellette had only 9.

Unfortunately for Harper being a receiver requires catching ability.

We have so much potential talent with Doss, Streeter, Mellette, Williams, Reed, Gurley and Thompson, surely one of these guys can break out to be a #2/3 receiver?

You would think, but each one of them has had their own individual problems that keep them from it. Hopefully they can improve and become our #2/#3 receiever

We don't really need a #1 receiver. Honestly, even Boldin wasn't a #1 receiver. Two #2s is fine, the only issue is that we don't even have that. Hopefully one of these guys steps up.

No Love for Jacoby Jones :(

At this point in his career we know what he is.  He's a great return man and a pretty decent deep threat as a number 3 receiver.  He does not have the consistent hands that you want to move the chains on third down.

It's true. The Ravens never really had star WRs the way the Falcons do for example. I guess Ozzie is okay with paying Flacco 120 million and not have him produce big numbers.
