What to do after the draft?

25 posts in this topic

With 3 rounds done, it's becoming more clear what should be addressed after the draft. At this point our most glaring needs now seem to be OT and WR so does that mean we're getting McKinnie? I know we get some cap relief soon so will there be a couple more pick ups?

That said, I'd be happy with a drafted WR and resigning McKinnie alone. That's all I'd like to see and I can be very happy with where we stand on defense and offense.

Continue to let Ozzie do his thing and then overreact for some reason

Sounds like a plan.
Lets go!!

Re-sign McKinnie for a cheap deal and pick up a veteran WR in FA this summer. Replacing Q probably won't happen. There is a reason losing him hurt more than any other of our losses.

Probably why I liked this draft so much. Day 1 & 2 I expect good things. This year, we had GREAT things. I can't wait for the money rounds, where Ozzie Newsome is usually a monster & is one of the best on the third day with his picks.

IMO, Ozzie's the best 3rd day GM out there. He hasn't always been the best day 1 & 2 GM (usually is), but he is consistently able to find quality players on the 3rd day.

Well now that Arthur Brown is in the fold, if I were Ozzie my first order of business would be cutting Rolando McClain and putting that 700K to better use. With Brown, Jameel, McClellan, Bynes, and Carr I think we have a good group to compete for the inside linebacker spots (not to mention we'll likely add at least one more body at the position with one of our late picks or in the undrafted free agent market). I trust whatever Ozzie decides with this situation though.

I doubt that happens, TBH. If anyone is cut, it is Leach or J. McClain. I think we will be signing McKinnie, though. He has lost ridiculous leverage.

Hope one or two of these WRs pan out.

David Reed

Tandon Doss

LaQuan Williams

Deonte Thompson

Tommy Streeter

since we didn't draft a WR.

We drafted Aaron Mellette from Elon. He has potential.

We are missing Q already.

They all have potential, but they all have 21 receptions and 1 TD comdined also. Replacing Anquan, eventhough he was an aging receiver, won't happen with this group.

Then again Joe never had stars to throw the ball to. So this situation is nothing new really.

Hope one or two of these WRs pan out.

Torrey Smith - our #1 receiver

Jacoby Jones - our #2 receiver

David Reed - good on special teams as a gunner and backup returner

Tandon Doss - our #3 (slot) receiver who will see more field time with Q gone

LaQuan Williams - he will be in the mix for the 4th receiver slot

Deonte Thompson - he will be in the mix for the 4th receiver slot

Tommy Streeter - will compete with Mellette to make the team (at risk of being cut)

Aaron Mellette - will be in the mix for the 4th receiver slot

WE all do!
