Welcome to Baltimore, Arthur Brown

Show him that Baylor clip or the West Virginia one - in that game he was an important part of keeping a damned potent WV offence to like 7 points.

His angles can be a little shaky, and that shows up in the 2012 Baylor game (he wasn't nearly as good in that one as 2011), and he can get pushed around a bit by bigger linemen, but I'm really happy with the tape I've seen and I agree with Grim that he's probably the guy we needed to re-charge our defence. He should go a long way to solving a lot of problems we had last season.

Oh no. He loved Brown, but he liked Teo more

In that case, show him one of Brown's best clips and then play Te'o against Alabama. :p

Honestly, I think Te'o looks like the better playmaker but he also played some scrub QBs and had a really nice defensive line in front of him.

You think I haven't tried that :p?

Get him some glasses.

He wanted Teo bc he was a tackling machine. We got into a huge debate about who was better, and as a result, I haven't talked to him in4 days.
Brown was better in coverage.... So I wanted him more

Lmao. He wants a tackling machine? Let's sign Marvin Burdette from UAB. He had 90 solo tackles, 157 total. I think he led the NCAA, not sure.

He said Teo also had better "instincts".
*Misses tackle in BCS game*

I would rahter have Jonathan Steweart than Teo

Te'o missed a lot of tackles. He also had more assists than solo, although I liked his tape from 2011. That said, I'm really glad we got the best LB in the draft.

I like Teo, only bc he's Coachable.
Brown has a higher ceiling.

Then again, he also said trading up for Barr or Lee next year is a bad move

I'd do a Julio trade for Lee in a heartbeat.

Brown goes nuts from 3:00 onward... that's some beautiful ILB play.

Surprised to see that many missed tackles from start to 3:00, though...

Well, if you guys weren't happy to have Brown at 56, Peter King reports that the Texans were going to take him at 57

Just going to report that as well.  What can we say?  The Ravens got their man.  Ravens understand value and have a great overall sense where guys (specifically in the early round) are going to go.

Last year with Upshaw, this year with Brown.  Are prime examples.

Anyone else think our starting ILB will be Brown and McClellan?

Possibly, you never know how these things shake out. It might even be Hall.

Don't you dare talk about those missed tackles. When I remarked on it a few months ago, I was called a few words. You would think Arthur Brown is the second coming if you listen to a few people here. He can do no wrong!

Oh lord...here we go. Did I open a can? Ha! I did not take my eyes of #4 throughout that entire video and I must say, that was not a good depiction of a dominant ILB. Everyone hear me though, I LOVE this pick, its just that video (save for a few select plays) was not a highlight reel of any sort.

Prepare for Grim and Gabe to chew you out. I got chewed out pretty bad when I counted 4-5 missed tackles in another video of him.

Exactly. No ILB in the draft impressed me very much. Minter was a better ILB IMO. Brown will have to add some weight IMO. That 240 is probably closer to 230-235

I will come at you with a rusty fork.   :D

But yea, the guy isn't perfect, but who is?  But for what we are trying to do, he makes sense.  In that Baylor video it does show him being over aggressive and missing tackles at time.  But at the same time,  whenever RG3 left the pocket, A Brown was there.  Had some quality QB rushes.  Picked up the easy INT and made a big time sack in the 4th.

He can rush the QB, drop back in coverage, and stop the run.

I hardly remember those days. I was just getting started here in 09.

Brown was probably playing at 230 during the season. He likely added weight this off season.

Minter is a better tackler and a much better run defender, but Brown has the athleticism and coverage abilities the NFL requires these days. I think Brown's ceiling is higher. My concern is that if Brown adds the weight he needs to, he may lose the range that makes him the linebacker he is.

Agreed on all points.  I think Minter will be a solid LB but nothing spectacular.  His ceiling isn't that high.  He looked great on film behind a dominant DL in college.

Brown has higher upside and is better molded for the current NFL (with his coverage skills).  Plus he can get pressure on the QB and attack mobile QBs who bounce outside.  Your last part is true.  If he adds weight he could potential lose that range.  A valid concern.

Of course, he may not need to add much weight with that monstrous line in front of him.

I wonder how Brown would fare against guys like Vernon Davis and Gronk?

I'm really glad that Minter wasn't our guy. He's one of those guys that can me a productive player on the right defense, but one of those guys that is probably never going to reach superstar potential.
