Welcome to Baltimore, Arthur Brown

He looks like a SS... lol. This will be the smallest LB we've ever put on the field.

Not that small. He's within an inch and within 5 pounds of every other ILB taken in the draft.

He's not that small compared to some of the other LBs we've fielded. An inch shorter than McClain or Lewis. He's still weighs in the 240s as well. McClain is 245. He weighed the same as when Ray Lewis entered the league.

I hear ya. Just looks a little underdeveloped in the upper body. Im sure he'll put on 5 lbs or so.

Actually coming into the league, Ray was 6'0" tall. He must've grown another inch through the course of his career or something. But people don't realize that its not size, its the heart. Its the physicality of the player, the love of the sport that the player has in him. People forget another name too. London Fletcher has played in the league for years at 5'11". He has made countless pro bowls. A guy that people are comparing Brown to, Navarro Bowman, is the same exact size as Brown and is considered an excellent linebacker.

To defend the guy... ahem... he's the same EXACT size as someone who wore the number 52 for us for years and years... someone only legends are told about... who's that guy again?? Some guy named Ray Lewis?? Yeah, thats it.

But Ray got to wear this MONSTER pads for his first couple of years! lol

I wonder why so many teams passed on him? Hmmmm. Wasn't Ray like the 4th or 5th LB taken in his class? Just sayin

WalterFootball:

56. Arthur Brown, ILB, Kansas State: A+ Grade
This is the best pick of the second round. Arthur Brown may have been chose in the 20 range had he been completely healthy. He'll heal up, and Ozzie Newsome will end up with another draft-day steal. Brown is as best of a successor to Ray Lewis as Baltimore could have obtained in the 2013 NFL Draft

I was sure that we would get Elam or Brown not both!  This is better than I expected.  Thank goodness the draft is rolling along at a quick pace.  I'm planning to wait until our final pick of the 3rd round before I switch the channel.  Do we go for an OT like Fragel or a WR like Swope?

I don't want this to go too far off-topic, but I doubt this means the end of Rolando.

Grim, with me finally defending Brown for his size, what grade do you now give me?? A B flat? Or still a B minus?? haha

I doubt it as well.  We still need help at LB.  But if the Ravens did want to cut the cord, they could do so more easily now.

similar size to minter, in fact almost Identical iirc, when he gets into the nfl weight room he will put on good muscle

The Brown signing means that McClain's thin ice melted a bit.

One more dumb move from that guy and his out of football

Bowman is jacked though. Lets not forget that. Brown is someone I'll be watching closely, I hope he does great. I think he was drafted in the correct slot . Not too early, and not a steal. Plays like a Raven

He definitely has a high degree of work ethic, thats for sure. He'll definitely improve, much like what Torrey Smith did. One of the overlooked things is the fact that he will now play with a chip on his shoulder for being passed over so many times. I love the fact that both of our players so far are going to come in and have chips on their shoulders. Both are instinctual and leaders. Both are tough. I love the way we've been replacing legends.

if we get Da'rick Rogers in the third I'll consider this a VERY successful draft. After that Ozzie is far more knowledgeable than any of us so I trust who he grabs.

Yes, we definitely need a receiver now. Three guys to keep an eye on include Keenan Allen (possible if we trade up, don't count us out), Ryan Swope (my personal fave of the receivers left), and also Rogers.

Same height and weight would make you believe they're the same size but Minter is a more stout dude, from a structure standpoint . Larger legs/arms/glutes ( where most of your power comes from) . I like Brown. I just would have rather had Minter. Though, for how many picks later we nabbed him. it's cool.

Meh, I don't like it. He can't shed blocks, which is crucial in a 3-4. And looking at his tape, he's not that fast either. I give this one a B-

On the first part, there isn't an ILB in the league who just straight up sheds blocks from 330 pound Gs.  Besides we brought guys like Canty and Spears in to protect him on the front.  Our front 3 is going to be near 1000 pounds, with more importantly, 1000 pounds of athleticism in Ngata, Canty and Jones.  Brown is going to be fine.

Ive been saying it for awhile but Brown is the new type of ILB in the NFL.  Guy that is undersized but has no problem with contact and seeks it out and can play in the nickel.  I love this pick.  He's the only ILB outside of Ogeltree I thought could play all 3 downs reasonably well.  The other top ILBs in this draft are guys you hide in soft zone coverages.

I loved those pads lol.  What I miss about early 2000s football....just flat out monstrous shoulder pads up the ears.

I wanted him more than Ogletree, Te'o, Minter or any other inside linebacker. I'm sure in the draft presser, the front office will reveal they felt the same way. It was clear watching the tape that Brown is always around the football. He also flies around the field.

and Rolando's threat isn't really Arthur Brown. It's Jameel or Bynes.

But yes, when Ray Lewis came out of Miami he looked a lot like Arthur Brown.

Could be the next Navorro Bowman type player. Very versatile and has a great nose for the football. Those great instincts will shine on our re-vamped D. Love what we are doing on that side of the ball this offseason. Shocked Minter went ahead of him, how any scout could rate Minter higher is beyond me. Brown and Ogletree were clearly the stand outs at LB in this draft class.
