What Will Football Look Like in 2020?

25 posts in this topic

I came across this outdated article on the internet. Which of these, if not all, do you think will be the case in 2020 (Apologies if it was discussed already)?

  1. No more devastating hits (already the case)
  2. No more kick-off returns (already threatening)
  3. No more helmets (already floating around)
  4. No more quarterback sacks
  5. All punts have to be fair caught
  6. No more hitting QBs, punters, kickers (you practically can't hit them now)
  7. Weight restrictions for different positions (HOLY COW...turning it into Pop Warner)
  8. No more blindside blocks on defenders (I think this is now a rule since this offseason? or something like it)
  9. No more leaving feet on tackles (we're in phase 1 of that)
  10. All shotgun all the time (even if they don't switch to this, they would have already done 4 and 6)

Article found here: http://www.businessinsider.com/for-the-nfl-to-survive-it-must-make-these-rule-changes-by-2020-2010-10#no-more-devastating-hits-1

I laugh every time they play that commercial on NFL Network with Roger Goodell saying "I played youth football".. wow so did I, can I be the Commissioner of the NFL too? Goodell says it like he's saying "I played in the NFL for 16 years". Just sad how many great hits we had last year where the player should be rewarded for making a big hit cleanly and instead are wrongfully penalized for "unnecessary roughness" or "hit on a defenseless player".. Then he has the nerve to fine players on top of that for making a bang bang play. I can't stand James Harrison but he got screwed over horribly by Goodell on those fines. He literally fines people for playing football.

If they actually improved helmet and even pad technology they wouldn't have these problems.  But that costs money, and the NFL doesn't want to cut into its gigantic profit margins.

They need to start making rule changes go through the Players Association before they get past. At least let the players have they final say on what should be an illegal hit instead of a bunch of guys in suits. It's a dangerous sport...

Why doesn't Goodell just do the decent thing and implement one straightforward idea:

Everyone plays in extensive layers of bubble wrap. Problem solved.
