Ravens off the field

This thing with Rolando McClain had me thinking..

I am so proud of our guys, sure they give the fans everything they've got when they’re on the field,  but it’s off the field where they really make a difference.

From Joe Flacco working at Dairy Queen to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving (something  Ray Rice does too)..

To Jameel McClain working with kids at his football clinic, coat drive and collecting food for families at Thanksgiving.

Ray Rice with his anti-bullying campaign, and work to help prevent teen suicide and all the other things he does around our city.

Torrey Smith (and the future Mrs. Smith) for supporting our kids and pushing them to better themselves in school.

Vonta Leach with his foundation to “Shoot for Cure” for cancer and helping kids learn to read.

Former Raven Matt Birk for all he did with kids, which earned him the Walter Payton “Man of the Year” award.

And even Anquan Boldin (I’m really going to miss him) with his Oxfam America organization.

There are so many others who quietly, behind the scenes, give back to the community.  These are the guys I’m proud to have our kids look up to.. they "Play like a Raven"

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Rolando probably going to have an epiphany here in Baltimore on how our organization is built on fire, where it spreads not throughout the team, the building, or the organization, but also the fans, the city, and throughout the world.

That fire can mean many things, but it's definitely burns on self-sacrifice.

Our guys could be selfish people, and they have the right to be that, but instead they go out and sacrifice their time and money to make a difference for any cause.

Question based on ignorance.

Do other teams have this many player charities ?

Arthur Jones is big in the community too. He's always doing stuff like helping out a children's hospital and just hanging out with the kids and such.

So what is the best way to keep track of our players and know where and when events are that we can support?

I missed Torrey's basketball charity and that is less than an hour from home (shame on me!)

I have players up on facebook but don't seem to get the posts about their upcoming events.

(I did find Vonta's charity and will try to get out and support that in October)

Sorry to thread jack!  I fully agree that we have solid players and that playing like a Raven means so much more than football!
