Ravens in NFL Top 100 Players of 2013

580 posts in this topic

I would say Anquan Boldin should've been much higher on that list.

Yanda should've been in the top 100, but i highly doubt they'd put a RG on 'top 100' dont you think?

Yanda is a better player than Boldin at this point in their careers. I don't think Boldin was that great. He stepped up in the playoffs but was inconsistent in the regular season.

That's like holding it against Jones that he excels on ST. Jones can punt return which Harvin can't, or at least hasn't. Durability has a lot to do with Harvin's ranking. Jones played and did, Harvin sat and 'could'.

Not related to Harvin or your comments, but if guys like Cribbs and Hester can be on the list (at higher spots than Jones) then what is the issue?

its not holding it against him, its sayin if he was a better overall player we may have had them games wrapped up already. I'd take a better overall receiver than kick returner everytime. Would you trade Jones for harvin straight up?

The way I look at it is that if Jacoby Jones wasn't a Raven would I still think he deserves to be in the top 100? I don't know. Not saying he does or doesn't deserve to be on the list. Just not sure.

Had he made the same plays for another team to help them become world champions, I still wouldn't bat an eye at him cracking the list. Its said all of the time, this is a "what have you done recently" sport.

I'm just on the fence here. I need to see the entire list before I appropriately criticize. Right now, I'm just looking at a small portion of a picture. Not enough is visible for me to make my decision. He's definitely had some game-changing plays. I just don't know if he deserves top-100 yet. Yes, that's taking into account his awesome, untouched Super Bowl TD catch, his Denver miracle catch he reeled in from Mighty Joe Flacco against the Broncos. Those are the two biggest plays I remember from Jacoby on offense.

I'm happy more Ravens are on here. I know that. I just hope the right ones are on here--the ones who really deserve it. Not that Jacoby or Boldin or Pollard don't deserve it.

I know this is probably the wrong place for it. I didn't want to open an unnecessary thread & since this is a ranked thread, I figured I'd post this in here:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000167352/article/ap-then-everyone-else-ranking-the-running-backs

Just read this on NFL.com. Here's the summarize version:

1. Adrian Peterson (class of his own)

(Studs)

2. Marshawn Lynch

3. LeSean McCoy

4. Arian Foster

5. Doug Martin

(Franchise Building Blocks)

6. Jamaal Charles

7. Alfred Morris

8. Frank Gore

9. Ray Rice

I'll stop here. Now, they go on to say that there's not much difference between the 'Franchise Building Blocks' & the 'Studs', but why is Doug Martin, after one season (even as good of a rookie year as he had) ahead of Ray Rice? Why is Alfred Morris (again, even with his really good rookie year) ahead of Rice, Gore? Jamaal Charles is a very good RB, but I can't see why he is ahead of Gore or Rice.

I also don't at all understand Lynch being so high. He's really good, but I don't know if he is better than Foster. Actually, I don't think he is better than Foster.

This list is a joke.

They have Mankins in the top 100 (thoguh he plays LG). If he can make it, surely Yanda should. Both have similar styles.

No for a few reasons.
1. Harvin wouldn't last in the AFC North.
2. Harvin would almost undoubtedly be IR'd halfway through the year.
3. Harvin would demand a huge contract.
4. It would just further stunt the development of the young guys by restricting their playing time since he would certainly demand more playing time than JJ (at least until he gets hurt).

Oh boy....Foster, maybe.

McCoy.

You know, I feel bad for the guy. He is on a team that sucked and did not know how to use him. But he carried me to a fantasy SB a year ago. I also had MJD, and Austin, Wallace, Vernon...

But McCoy is not overrated, rather misused.

that was asked purely on a talent v talent basis. and even at that if we got nine games from harvin that mini got from him last year there's a very good chance we are 9 0. Jones not so much. You can't rely on a kr to bail you out

Even al Davis at his worst would take that trade in a heartbeat... My god

I think Jacoby Jones will be a better player. He was a very serviceable WR3 that could play the split end and flanker positions.  I assume Torrey Smith will get a lot of attention, but then Dennis Pitta might also. That's why having a good WR Corps instead of one superstar WR like AJ Green or Andre Johnson can help a lot. Calvin Johnson was a beast, but then Stafford didn't have a lot of other options due to injuries, so he forced a lot of shots at Johnson.

Put McCoy in a good division and see what happens. That division has some god awful run d's.

Well if you are talking talent for talent than of course you take it.

thank you, tell that to the person that discredited harvin because he catches most of his passes close to the LOS

I agree yanda deserves to be on the list. And there are hardly any Olinemen while glamor positions are way overrated.

There really ought to be at least 10 since that's how many All-Pro's there are but who cares if it's unofficial. Sounds like they only got a 25% response from players.

Maybe a ton of defensive linemen aren't casting their votes. And perhaps only a handful of linebackers are casting votes

Wouldn't be surprised if they only asked quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and big name defenders for votes.

Well I can see why linemen would get left off if they asked on WRs. And big named defenders are likely to be the ones getting off and shedding their blocks. I would think QBs are naming the big name defenders that they fear. And running backs are likely to only name their own o-linemen which would mean that most would end up with the same value of points.

Speaking of jaded opinions, how stupid is this guy: http://www.nfl.com/videos/baltimore-ravens/0ap2000000167185/Is-the-Baltimore-Ravens-roster-Super-Bowl-XLVIII-worthy

I didn't bother to commit his name to memory (I've seen the show occasionally and still don't find him knowledgeable enough for me to remember), but how do these guys think they know more than they actually know? Nobody in Baltimore ever thought of a part-time starter, previously UDFA as the heir apparent to Ray Lewis. And then how do you even manage to still make a statement such as "Flacco needs to step it up".....???

It's gratifying to see that Polamalu and Kaepernick are the two most overrated players so far, while all of our players and Boldin are underrated.

I think Jacoby had a better 2012 season then Harvin.

Would I trade him for Harvin? In a heartbeat. No hesitation.

This again...

Joe Flacco probably could hit the top 20.

Wasn't Joe around 75 last year? If so, add in a SB win and MVP honors and I agree with you on a possible top 20, but I don't think his peers will see it that way. For what its worth (not a freakin thing to me) Skip Bayless says he won't be in the top 100 at all this year. That mutt cracks me up!

If it was finished that early, Jacoby, Anquan, and Pitta wouldn't be on the list.

They say they poll towards the end of the year and try to handout ballots at the Pro Bowl, too. It must be done sometime in/after the playoffs, though.
