Pernell McPhee switching to OLB

I'm not trying to be mean, but how does this post make any sense? If we were moving to a 4-3, we wouldn't move a DT to ILB because a 4-3 requires true sideline to sideline speed and McPhee most certainly wouldn't be switching to a 4-3 OLB at 6-3 280. If he drops about 15 pounds then he could be a 3-4 OLB but even at that size, he wouldn't be a 4-3 OLB with no experience off the ball. If we were to move to a 4-3, Pernell would be the perfect option to play a 4-3 DE opposite Suggs in a rotation with Upshaw and Dumervil.

As much as I hate to say, Suggs is probably gone after next season. I wonder if this move means we're trying to groom a future situational pass rusher, or perhaps even more.... The day may come where it's Dumervill & Upshaw on the outside and Mcphee comes in like Kruger used to.

I think this is a likely scenario, he will be on the wrong side of 30 (31 in October) and consuming massive amounts of cap space, with a cap number of 13+ million this year and 12.4 next year.

I love Sizzle and I wish he would be able to retire a Raven. It would be awesome if he restructures/take a pay cut. It's either him or Ngata that's gone unfortunately.

x2, plus I think that Flacco's cap number jumps up to 14+ million in 2014 as well, so space will be needed for that.

How is 31 the wrong side of 30? If that's the wrong side, then what's the right side of 30? I'm confused.

Under 30 is generally seen as the "right side of 30". Just a fancy way of saying 30 is the drop off for 90% of athletes when it comes to athleticism, particularly burst and speed.

Unless this whole thing was sarcasm lol...

Why? Rex Ryan was fired along with the Billick staff and Harbaugh is the 1 who went out of his way to bring him back, even gave him a greater role on the team as an assistant head coach.
[/quote]
Then Rex verbally gave it to the FO for "not hiring the right guy". Essentially saying he was a better candidate than Harbaugh.

Rex will not be back until Harbaugh and Ozzie are gone. Rex represents what the Ravens were from about 2002-2008, which I loved defensively but the whole thing unraveled swimingly in 2007. Thats the whole reason Harbaugh was brought in. Harbaugh was also smart enough to know he needed the defense to buy in during 2008 for it to be a successful year and so he listened to advice to bring Rex back.

The way Harbaugh has helped orchestrate the team and the fact Ozzie found the franchise QB and WR in Flacco and TSmith means we don't need to go back to the old mentality. The defense won't be dumping on the offense anymore. Rex wouldn't fit in with the new look Ravens unless he completely changed his personality. And nobody can do that.

I never saw the article mentioning McPhee possibly playing OLB but I'm sure it was meant in the same manner as Upshaw sliding ILB occasionally to get as many playmakers on the field as possible. I'm sure it would be sub-packages etc rather than similar to how Kruger couldn't find his niche for nearly 4 years. McPhee is already near 280 or more, he had nagging injuries last year that prevented him from playing up to his rookie year standards. Much like Kruger I think McPhee would have benefited from getting more situational rusher snaps similar to his rookie year.
