Apparently they are only asking for a 2nd round pick. If that is the case we need to make an offer. Albert is a borderline top 10 talent at the position. It is almost impossible to find a top LT when a team wins consistently. We would need to work out a long term deal because we can't afford the franchise tag salary, but this would be too much of a steal not to make this move. What do you guys think?

The only issue is giving him a long term deal. That's something we probably can't afford. If it was just about the draft pick, I would say do it. He's better then anyone we would get at 64... But we still have to pay him.

I would be willing to cut Leach if it meant adding him. We could also backload the contract so the money kicks in when Suggs and Ngata's deals are a bit more manageable.

They want an early 2nd apparently.
we could pack our 2nd and 4th and call it mid-2nd for a deal

The Chiefs are looking for a second-round draft pick in exchange for Albert, who says he is seeking "clarity" from the Chiefs before he shows up to offseason workouts. Albert is an above-average starting left tackle, which is worth plenty in the NFL. But he's not worth a second-round pick and the monster contract that he's looking for.
The NFL teams that are desperate for offensive tackles will grab one of the big three near the top of the draft or take a chance on a player like Florida State's Menelik Watson sometime later on.

Ok, we find a trade partner at 32, most likely a team desperate for a quarterback willing to jump Jacksonville and then we use that second round pick in order to obtain Albert.

2 much $$$$$. Ravens don't seek out babies with contract problems. Perhaps he should have read the thing before he signed it.?

No to Branden Albert!!!

We can find a cheaper option. Also we have to save money for Oher.
I would be perfectly fine with putting any potential Oher money into a contract for Albert. Talk about an upgrade.

Albert has had some back issues. I am not sure a long term investment is wise unless it is very reasonable.

I rather have Albert and KO as Tackles than Oher and any one of the two...Oher is not going to be worth the money he wants

Isn't this what they originally wanted?

I don't think it would be worth it for the ravens to trade for him and I honestly believe a tackle from this year draft also with the young tackles the ravens already have is the best way to go(re-signing Mc K as well)

Anyone ever wonder why they are lowering their offer? Could ti be that Albert isn't the great franchise LT that everyone keeps making him out to be?

My response if the Chiefs called offering Albert would be, "What's that you're lowering your asking price? Is it higher than a 3rd round pick? Yes?" *Click* End of Conversation.

Chiefs draft Joeckel, they will need a right tackle, package Oher in the deal, Albert for Oher, a 2nd and maybe a swap of picks in the mid rounds or something.

We would be better off trying to resign Andre Smith or Big Mac to a 1yr or 2yr deal than deal with someone who obviously could end up giving us the same headache as Jared Gaither once did. I say we just patch the LT spot and work out some contracts with our current guys to free up some cap and then next season or the season after go after a LT or possibly trade for a younger one before the draft. Eitherway, we need security at that position because LT is the biggest we have at the moment, even bigger than MLB IMHO(if flacco is on his back, we dont win).

I think originally they were looking for a mid-round pick in addition to a second round pick.

But that would be when Flacco's cap hit skyrockets. If the team was willing to bring in a veteran LT at franchise LT money they would have at least shown some interest in Jake Long.

Heck no. Then we also have to fork over a ton of cash as well. I'd rather take the draft pick for 500k a year then pay 6-9 million for an OK LT.

Umm......no. It's because no teams took the first offer. Albert is a franchise LT and has shown a ton of improvement. He isn't top 10 though. Not yet. It's not like you are just getting a LT. You get a guy who you hope gets better and also need to sign a long term deal with a lot of money.

They want to move him. Draft Joeckel or Fisher and move on.

People forget McKinnie gave a up a huge sack single handily in crunch time during the SB. If you watch the sound fx Flacco even comes over to the sideline in frustration and says "What is McKinnie doing? He didn't block that right!". I don't think we're gonna bring him back, he's made it pretty clear he doesn't want to go for a team friendly deal and his play is on the decline. McKinnie made a nice plug and play depth guy but he's not the long term solution and that's what we need to be looking for. McKinnie is just a quick band-aid solution to a glaring hole on our O-Line. No half measures, we're going to either get a LT in the draft that we are confident in or move Osemele over to LT like he played in college and have the much more realistic task of finding a starting LG. I hope we stay committed to keeping Oher at RT, unquestionably the position he excels most at.

No to Albert trade as well, not our M.O.

It's one play. Means nothing. Wasn't that the only sack he let up in all 4 games? Also moving Osemele to LT would be dumb. The guy wasn't even that great at RT. Just keep him at LG.
