Getting to know Rolando McClain

202 posts in this topic

Is he even there working out? I really don't have a clue.

You don't even have to be in Baltimore. Go to Arizona and hang with Suggs. Go wherever Doom is if he's not in Baltimore.

Link up with Don "Wink" or Ted Monachino or somebody that can say this guy's head is definitely in the game. Mink and Downing and Ellison would tell us that story the minute it happens. Hope this doesn't turn out to be Terrell Owens pt 2 only not via trade

After his arrest, it was reported that he was scheduled to arrive in Baltimore on April 29th.

I don't know if it was because he had a court date, or the Ravens told him to get everything square before coming here or, if he just truly doesn't give a crap but that didn't happen.  That is what bothers me though. Why isn't he here? Or, with Suggs or any other veteran on the team.

yeah the last thing we'd need is him to throw a punch at someone on a crucial third down or something giving the offence a fresh set of downs at a key point in the game or something.

Actually Suggs was the worst at this early in his career, among others. it's a good part of what cost bullock his job.

Oh he was notorious. Most recent and final act (Thank Goodness) was in that New England game at M&T against the 12-0 or 13-0 Pats

I think that was the same game that Bart Scott picked up a flag and tossed it in the stands

Any updates? Is he going to attend OTAs?

I have a vivid memory of that game.. especially Suggs spitting, looking like a bulldog slobbering over some juicy steak. Not sure about Bart Scott - but I remember him getting ejected for some reasonable stupidity. That season was the worst... Almost ashamed to be a Ravens fan then.. Losing to the 0-15 Dolphins.. Known as the "thugs" of the NFL

Maybe the fame, notoriety and money were too much for him to resist the negative influences. Good, that he recognizes what he needs to do and is acting on it.

Probably just trying to look good for his court hearing. Judge is less inclined to send him to prison if he is being productive in his life/society

But hoping I'm wrong

Hope you are wrong too. Thinking you probably are. He didn't burn out of the NFL, he turned money down and went back to school. I respect that

I don't mind us being considered the bad guys of the NFL, that usually is just associated with teams that have defences that hit hard and know it. But knocking people in the mouth can be done with class so thats where the distinction between thugs and bad guys lies I believe. I definitely wouldn't want the pretty boy image of the Pats or Cowboys (when they don't suck).

Do we hold mcclains rights for the length of the deal we signed him to, or indefinitely? Also if he unretires is he automatically back on the original deal?

We hold his rights if he wants to make a comeback. I think the contract is void but the rights are ours.

Interesting story

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9892094/rolando-mcclain-trying-get-life-together-tuscaloosa

Hate to make light of the situation, but it was kind of funny to hear "he didn't like football when he was in Oakland"

intriguing.....I'm glad that he finally finds peace from life before he did something really stupid like Hernandez.  I hope he gets his head straight and come back to Baltimore for some real football.

I think it shows that other people and environment can be just as much of a deteriment to your well being as one can be a deteriment to themselves.

I was thinking about this earlier and all. Since we have rights to his football talents should he return what does this do to our cap considering the deal we signed him for and with Daryl Smith becoming a FA. This could actually be a good thing for us if he comes back re-focused and ready to play.

Yeah. He could be a contingency plan if Daryl Smith leaves in free agency and he decided to return to football.
