Getting to know Rolando McClain

202 posts in this topic

That's my problem right there. Why isn't he here yet?

Well, I'll hold off on rushing to a conclusion on that, but all I can say is that if you can't even hold a job in Oakland, that raises my eyebrow. I suspect that he is displaying what kind of work ethic we can expect from him if we were to retain him.

He has potential to do such a thing (Athletically)... But his maturity level is lower than my 7 year old brother's is.....

Pretty much everyone in the NFL has the physical ability to excel in the league. It's the mental aspects that usually separate the Bowmans from the McClains.
Just look at Oher. He should be the second coming of JO if athletic ability is all that mattered. Unfortunately, football IQ, instincts, mental toughness and coachability play just as big a factor in the real world, and that is why he is a pretty good RT but cant cut it at LT

Are you going to bring this up when he gets released or outplayed by McClellan and earns a spot on the bench?

My big thing, other than the obvious "character issues", is how some people talk about this guy as if he is something special, like he has ever done something either on or off the field to earn the benefit of the doubt or to give us reason to believe he'll ever be a major contributor to our team

My point is you don't know what he is going to do. Ozzie wanted to bring him in, he did. We have had success with castoffs and we have had failures with cast offs.

I want to see what he gets down on the football field. But a lot of people wanna whine like a bunch of girls that he is a punk. Which is laughable based on his offenses. Didn't Suggs get into a domestic violence case based on firearms? Wasn't he accused of pouring bleach on his girl?

I want to see what he can do. If Ozzie and Saban believe in him, then that means more to me than what some stranger on a forum or member of the media says.

Who knows if he was a bust, he was in the wrong system or whatever.

I also found it interesting regarding his grades with PFF. “Pro Football Focus gave McClain positive grades against the run in each of his three NFL seasons. And for comparison sake, his plus-9.8 rating in that area in 2012 was better than its grades for Ray Lewis, Dannell Ellerbe and Jameel McClain, both individually and combined. He missed just three tackles. And PFF also says Rolando McClain made a tackle resulting in a defensive stop on 11.4 percent of running plays last season, which was eighth best among inside linebackers who played at least 25 percent of the their team’s defensive stats.”

My Dad always tells me this

"You know son... There are two kinds of people in this world. And Since you love football so much, I will use an example from the Ravens".

Look at Vontaze Burfict. He should be the second coming of Lewis. He is athletic enough to do so. But he will never be 1/8th of the player Lewis is. Lewis works his [profanity deleted] off to get where he is, he tries hard and is professional. Guys like Burfict, McClain will never come close anywhere near the word "Success" simply because they don't give a damn"

Then he tells me to be the "Ray Lewis" and try very hard (I'm pretty close, AP student).

But It seems Rolando doesn't give a damn. I would rather have Kenny Britt if I wanted a headcase on my team. He actually can produce if asked.

Or even Old Man Bart Scott.  Dansby, Hell sign me... I may be out of NFL shape, and too young to join, but I'd work harder than Robust.

EDIT: Signing me is obviously a joke.

Burfict is ok... Not great. But with his demeanor he might be out of the NFL soon.

I stopped reading when you quoted that joke of a site, PFF.

And McClain is a punk. You can call that whining like a girl if you like. I say it is calling it for what it is, and not making excuses for a waste of skin.

Your father is a wise man.

And I bet he doesn't make excuses for people like McClain. In fact, I know he doesn't, since he tells you to be like Lewis, not McClain.

Honestly, I'd go for Larrry Grant over him now

Do you know him personally? I think he is immature based on his actions, I think he can come off as having a problem with authority. But this team has been VERY accepting of people who have had troubled pasts or history of doing bone headed things. This guy is very mild.

And that "Joke of a site" was very unbias and broke down the pros and cons. But you seem close minded anyways about Rolando so I wont waste anymore of my time. Hate em if you want, he doesnt care.

I could care less whether a punk like McClain cares about my opinion. In the real world, I dont associate myself with morons like him.

And as unbiased as PFF may or may not be, they are the same people who according to their rating system, Jamaal Charles was not one of the top 101 players in 2012. Imagine that.

In fact, you'll probably feel embarrassed for these monkeys after you read their list:

But you support players like Suggs and Ray Lewis? gotcha. I like all of those guys, I am not there to see what actually goes on in their incidents. I just don't judge anyone based on what the media spews out.

Jamaal Charles on the other hand not making a list of 100 best players is kind of a surprise, they must of graded reallllll heavy on consistency and Touchdowns.

When it comes to those lists, its compiled by one writer. Hell there are  people on here that have said Joe Flacco is the best QB in the NFL. How hard do you think that makes the other 31 teams laugh? It's an opinion. I am talking about their statistical breakdown. They say he struggles when a guard gets on him , they talk about his lack of coverage skills but say he is a great run defender and they would like to see him get a chance in a 3-4.

Probably McClain's mother

Meh. I am not a big McClain fan. I like his potential as a player but he cannot seem to get it as a person

I don't wanna write a guy off yet. And why he's not here I dunno. I thought it was because he still had his court date which I'm pretty sure is in Decatur. Either way, I'd like him to do well, but if not, we have other guys who can fill in such as Nigel Carr, J McClain, Josh Bynes and McClellan. I know he has multiple offenses and that is stupid on his part, but look who he's coming to. How much money is guaranteed to him? Nada. Should it take a new team to straighten a guy out? No. He should man up and do it himself, but if he changes and proves he can play up to the level that got him drafted, this will probably be forgotten. I don't have much sympathy for anyone who makes the Ravens look bad. But I dislike hypocrites even more. If he doesn't pan out, good riddance cause at least he didn't cost much.

That just goes to show how moronic they are. They talk about how Rolando struggles when an OL gets their hands on him, and talk about how he struggles in coverage, yet they want him to play in a 3-4?? Wow...they never cease to amuse me.

Gee.
I wonder what our team would have looked like with out Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, Sizzle, and others...

classier with no super bowls

I think Rolando could be our best 2-down LB. He's built like a DE. I hope we use him like a Jack ILB, where he does all the dirty work except covering. Blowing up blockers for others to make plays is a perfect role for him.

Lots of Rolando hate here, lol. I am excited for him still because he had a ton of potential but potential is nothing without the desire to be successful. We'll see where he is. Right now he's a Raven. It's strange to me he hasn't come to the OTAs yet. That's odd. I wonder why and I wonder what Ozzie and John think about that. He had better come ready because he won't be handed a job here. He has some good competition as well. Hall, McClellan, Bynes, Carr and possibly Jameel. Then our new additions like Brown, and possibly Copeland. He's going to have a battle for sure.

I'm still trying to figure out why some of you guys got so excited a few pages back about a 6'4" 255 lb guy bodyslamming a 5'11" 185 lb guy. The size differential hardly makes it some earth shattering feat...not to mention the yellow laundry it earned his team.

What was funny is that McClain was so proud of himself after that play. You'd think he did something worthwhile, like lowering his shoulder and knocking the ball loose or something

Happy to have him on the team and happy that they are, or at least it seems, not ready to bail on him and still giving him a shot to make the team.

What I'm not happy about (not that anyone cares about my opinion) is that there hasn't been a story highlighting his arrival at the Under Armour Performance Center. I mean, that should have happened like...yesterday (really like 3 weeks ago to be honest).

Some of these posts literally made me smh. I don't wanna get into it with anyone.

Harbs said that he only gets 1 more chance....2 weeks later he absolutely blew it. I think it sends a horrible message to the locker room that he's still here. Just my opinion.
If he makes the 53, stays out of trouble and plays good I would be thrilled. I just have doubts is all. And justifiable doubts that no one can truthfully deny.

Is he even there working out? I really don't have a clue.

Seriously doubt it. There would be some kind of media circus going on if he were here.
