Getting to know Rolando McClain

202 posts in this topic

I don't think its what he did that was bad, boo hoo his windows are too dark...Ray Rice got in trouble for the same thing. THen he proceeded to yell at a cop....I'm sure we've all WANTED to yell at a cop or two in our time but we were all (for the most part) intelligent enough to know that, that would only cause more trouble. It's his lack of restraint in these situations that bothers me ESPECIALLY when his entire career is already on thin ice...I question his intelligence greatly.

Not so much intelligence as impulse control. Like being smart enough to know what you're doing is really stupid, but not able to stop yourself once the emotions take over.

Kind of what used to drive me absolutely insane about Cary Williams.

yeah the last thing we'd need is him to throw a punch at someone on a crucial third down or something giving the offence a fresh set of downs at a key point in the game or something.

I believe his bed is right next to the dog house so just in case, he'll move in comfortably easier.....

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000167848/article/rolando-mcclain-still-could-be-cut-by-baltimore-ravens

Nothing new really. But still very much up in the air. And maybe the previous comment by DeCosta was misinterpreted.

Maybe, maybe not. Either way, I don't care. I'd be happy if he contributed. I'd be disappointed if he didn't. Not that I counted on him as a starter--rather, he's a wasted talent at that point. I doubt anyone signs him again if he is cut here. That will be the end of his career.

We have a lot of ILB talent, as well as OLBs (DE/Pass rushers) who I believe are capable of playing ILB in our system. People forget sometimes than Jameel McClain was a DE/OLB converted to an ILB.

We have a lot of talent where we can let McClain go and still be OK--whichever McClain that is. I personally think we'll PUP Jameel, let him rest those 6 weeks, then get him back for one game then go on our BYE. Or perhaps we bring him back after the BYE unless we're desperate. The nice thing is, we have a lot of talent and we drafted Arthur Brown. We'll be OK. I feel really confident in that. We have a really nice DL, too. I think we're going to be fine.

Not saying you're saying anything one way or the other Geving--this is more of a rant than anything, lol.

Still surprised that he's still on the roster. I guess in this situation, we're keeping him out of desperation.

I still believe he's a good football player, and when we first signed him I couldn't wait to see him lay the wood on somebody. But you know what DeNiro says... "The saddest thing in this world is wasted talent".

Yeah, I'm not saying anything lol.

I'm not denying his talent and potential, and I think he could help us on the field. I think his skillset would be a match next to Brown. I've mentioned earlier that I'm crossing my fingers that he gets his act together and fulfills his potential in Baltimore. That would be ideal of course. But he's not in anyway invaluable or anything close to that and I have and probably always will be skeptical to a player that has off the field issues over and over again. I'm torn, but hoping for the best.

I don't think it is out of desperation, I just think that DeCosta and Ozzie don't believe he had much of a chance to change in a week. It's going to be a process, but I guarantee you that if he remains a Raven, he won't be allowed to make any trips back to Decatur, Alabama. That's for sure.

Get rid of these "Problem Child" players in the NFL

If the league had any balls, players like him would be banned for life, All the players that can't get the chance to be in the NFL shouldn't have to suffer for trash like him.

Pac Man Jones is the poster child for 2nd , 3rd , and 4th chances, But this guy is going for the record!

Cm-on Harbs/ Ozzie DO what's right....

Yes, please, do what's right for EVERYONE: the league, the team, the person. Try to turn him into a model citizen so that everyone will benefit. It's been done before with immature players. If, after your best efforts, he isn't salvagable, then cut him loose to continue his downward spiral and end up a burden on society.

I am not on the dump McClain bandwagon. Let's get the guy into camp and see what he brings to the table. When he intercepts Manning's pass in Denver in September, then you can come back to this post and see that you saw it here first.

Your argument is the only rebuttal I need. "PacMan" Jones changed his name back to Adam Jones several years again when he completely changed his life around. The reason why you don't know this is because he hasn't been in the news for years. Quietly, he has had a very good career in Cincinnati and is the number one cornerback for that team.

Never give up on a person because people can turn their lives around like Adam Jones did. Rolando is a 23 year old kid with many bad influences and is in the spotlight. It is not something all 23 year olds handle well. If Rolando shows up, works hard, and proves he is attempting to change then it would be foolish to give up on him.

Technically Leon Hall is the #1 CB... Other than that I agree.

Leon Hall is a legit #1 CB when he is not nicked up and I would think the Bengals will give Dre Kirkpatrick every chance to win the other starting job now that he is actually healthy. Credit Jones for finally shaping up, but he is the Bengals secondary's equivalent to our own Jones in our receiving corps.

The thing I haven't really seen mentioned is the possibility of a Rolando suspension based on being a multiple offender to the league's conduct policy. If he is found guilty of his most recent charges, he's looking at a 4 game suspension at the least as I dont think he has faced a league suspension yet. I'm fine with biding time with innocent until proven guilty, but if the hammer comes down after his July hearing, I would much rather see us give reps to guys who deserve it like Brown, McClellan, Bynes, Carr, and Simon.

Guys who made ONE mistake, and never looked back? Not to mention that not only were they completely different people from the type McClain is, given their level of talent and production, they were worth the effort and patience

Unnecessary roughness, no question.
Pretty bad ____ none the less.

I imagine that's why Oakland got rid of him; I'm sure he gave them the I'm trying to change my ways speech once or twice

Yeah, but I would keep him around at the very least. He costs nothing & his salary isn't guaranteed until week 1 of the regular season. He might even end up suspended.

Lol, I wonder how long is your list? Hahaa. I don't think we cut Rolando because of the legal issues--at least, that won't be the only reason. I think we cut him if Carr or another LB just outplays him.

This. And tinted windows is a bit lame if that is what it is. There are more important offenses. Still, I'm curious to see if he gets to Baltimore and if he matures.

That's my problem right there. Why isn't he here yet? My first thought & only guess right now is the Ravens don't want him to get injured because if he does then we might have an injury settlement on our hands. I'm not sure that's the case, though. It could be that we told him to get his house in order. Heck, maybe Goodell told them he's going to suspend him, 4 games for being a Raven & 4 games for his transgressions, lol.

It's not about what the offense was. It's more to do with his decision making process. If he had just cooperated on his last 2 arrests, he wouldn't be in this situation. He made a poor decision and that's the issue. With that being said, I'm more than okay with giving him another shot. I'd like to get him in the locker room before I completely write him off.

Are you going to bring this up when he gets released or outplayed by McClellan and earns a spot on the bench?

My big thing, other than the obvious "character issues", is how some people talk about this guy as if he is something special, like he has ever done something either on or off the field to earn the benefit of the doubt or to give us reason to believe he'll ever be a major contributor to our team

He has potential to do such a thing (Athletically)... But his maturity level is lower than my 7 year old brother's is.....
