thats not McClain speaking and that's not McClain that video grim posted, which is I'm assuming the original speech, that's someone called coach flowers apparently
Lol. Oops.

Yeah, that was Coach Flowers from Ieland High School. Pretty nice speech for a HS football coach.

No, he'll run away and avoid it just like he did when Flacco turned on the jets.

I just wonder.. Are you the type of person that's going to be able to come on this board if/when you are completely wrong about McClain or are you the type that will act like it never happened?

Im willing to admit it, i admitted i was wrong when i thought Torrey Smith was going to be a bust, but i wasn't wrong about FA bums like Domonique Foxworth either.

Rolando is a really strong kid. Unlike other LBs like even Te'o, he doesn't really need help to bring down guys. I love that about him.

Personally, I think there is a very high chance this happens next year:

2014 FA Losses:
DT Arthur Jones
CB Corey Graham
TE Ed Dickson
WR Jacoby Jones
FB Vonta Leach

2014 Re-Signings:
LB Rolando McClain
OT Michael Oher
TE Dennis Pitta

Obviously, some of those guys might get extended early like Oher & Pitta. I have a feeling Jones will be allowed to walk unless he does incredibly well, Haloti does poor again, & Canty, Spears & McPhee are ho-hum.
It'll be a mistake IMO if we let Jones go. He's exactly what you want at the DT position and he's only growing. Reminds me of how well Dwan Edwards played in 2010 when he was finally given a starting spot, except Jones is younger and more aggressive, with alot more junk in the trunk.

Spears won't be here past those 2 years he signed for, may even be gone after 1 year. He's hit his ceiling and he offers nothing in the pass rush. Jones on the other hand has some ability to collapse the pocket.

I'm more excited about the Rolando Mcclain signing, than any other signing we've made this off-season. Yes, even more than Dumervil.

Why?

Because he's 23 and actually insanely talented. He's 6'4, 255 and ran a 4.68 40 in the combine [not his pro day]: that's way faster than Te'o's 4.82, or Minter's 4.81, or Ogletree. Hell it's the same as what Arthur Brown ran at his PRO DAY [people always run faster at pro days]. Rolando always had the tools, he just needed to refine his footwork and technique, and still does. Everyone knew him going to Oakland wasn't going to work. And it has nothing to do with anything other than this:

http://walterfootbal...010rmcclain.php

Weaknesses:
Questionable 4-3 inside linebacker
Could be exposed in man scheme

So what do the Raiders do? Draft him and put him an 4-3 man scheme. a 4-3 system that heavily asks its linebackers to play man coverage.

Forget that they're losers, that it's hard to stay motivated in a situation like that, that he had a LB coach in 2012 that was hired in 2012, then fired in 2012, had a LB coach in 2011 that was fired in 2011, had a LB coach in 2010 that was fired in 2010. The coach and organizational turnover even with headcoaches between 2010-2013, that he was in his 2012' headcoaches' doghouse. This guy has had 3 headcoaches in 3 years: Tom cable, Hue Jackson, Dennis Allen. But it has very little to do with that, everything to do with the 4-3.

It's all about scheme, really. We saw that with Joe Flacco. The smallest change can make all the difference. Rolando will shine here.

Pro Football Focus gave McClain positive grades against the run in each of his three NFL seasons. And for comparison sake, his plus-9.8 rating in that area in 2012 was better than its grades for Ray Lewis, Dannell Ellerbe and Jameel McClain, both individually and combined. He missed just three tackles. And PFF also says Rolando McClain made a tackle resulting in a defensive stop on 11.4 percent of running plays last season, which was eighth best among inside linebackers who played at least 25 percent of the their team’s defensive stats.

Basically, I see the Huff and Dumervil signing as improving our ability to stop the pass, but not doing much for our run-defense [keeping it the same as Reed and Kruger, but definitely superior to being without Reed and Kruger]. However, if what we set out to do this off-season was improve our run defense, we've done it with the addition of Rolando Mcclain.

The biggest difference will be he'll be: 1. a 2-down linebacker used sparingly in obvious passing situations. 2. in a 3-4, which will reduce his obligations in pass coverage and split the field. He can also be paired with a thumper at ILB that can really take on blockers and even set the edge. Despite Rolando's big size, he is NOT "thumper" who will take on blockers.

So pairing him with someone like Upshaw or Bryan Hall will really make him fly around.

If Rolando was drafted by a 3-4 team in 2010, he'd be a pro bowl player by now.

That's all I have to say about that. Like, the Texans? He'd be bigger than cushing.

Here's a great link about "getting to know" Rolando Mcclain. It's NFL.com's gameday highlights of the Raiders and the Packers in 2011, you know, the year the Packers were defending champions.

Watch 55. Keep a good eye on him, and watch highlights of the game. Mcclain put so much out there, had such a phenomenal game and yet the Packers just absolutely dominated the Raiders, Palmer kept making mistakes....it was terrible

he logged a safety, two sacks and a tackle for loss during a game otherwise dominated by Aaron Rodgers and company.

http://www.nfl.com/v...kers-highlights

he logged a safety, two sacks and a tackle for loss during a game otherwise dominated by Aaron Rodgers and company. got blown out. It'd be hard to stay motivated in that situation, not to mention not get into arguments with the coaches

I'm just excited he's here. The draft needs to get here quick. Way too much analysis goes on about these future prospects. Haven't even got to the draft and I'm already pumped. A lot of good defensive pickups.

No I'm pissed reading that speech above. If the dude does turn into a pro bowler we're screwed!
Yeah, I'm personally hoping he signs a mid-season extension or something like that. Maybe if we really like him pre-season we can sign him.

More than likely this is a no, but does anyone have any idea what number he got or is leaning towards?

i think you were right when you said he might go for #54 so i think they're waiting for OTAs to start so he can get to Hamilton with an offer or decide on another #

is it possible to keep this guy if he plays well? I have no idea what our cap looks like going into other seasons but I gotta assume we're ready to pay Joe increasingly more each year.

We have a large list of FAs next offseason, so he will just add to the list. His play this year will determine where he finds himself on our list of priorities to re-sign. If he plays really well early in the season, I can see a scenario where we extend him before he has a chance to hit the open market.

Great video but i saw alot of arm tackling out there on the field. The hit on Sproles was legit. The rest was real weak i hate to say this but we might still need a linebacker or two.

I think McClain won't be too hard to re-sign. I don't think teams will be willing to bring the Brinks for one season's worth of work, even if it is spectacular. A lot of teams have been burned by our linebackers. It wouldn't surprise me, but McClain choosing Baltimore over all the other teams that wanted him speaks volumes of his priorities.

I think he will fit in with the Ravens. I am not expert, but lets face it the Raiders stink. He went to a terrible team, and its hard for even a good player to shine on a terrible team.

Mcclain arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. I think he needs to move out of Decatur, Alabama. I know his family/friends are there and it's where he grew up and everything, but all of his arrests happen there.

Alabama police are not "just." Also, I find disorderly conduct and resisting arrest to be flimsy charges that are meaningless, really.
