Rolando McClain agrees to 1 year, $700k deal

203 posts in this topic

You know what would be absolutely filthy (won't happen but just speculation)? If we could CJ Mosley next year in the first round. With as great as Rolando fits at our MIKE position, CJ Mosley fits just as well at our WILL. Having those two would be incredible..

Roooooooooo!

Is that allowed as a chant?

Anyways, solid move. Let him compete for a starting gig. I sure can't wait until camps start so we can see our new look defense all in Ravens gear.

Another thing, I was just watching the NFL channel. It had this list..

Losses (FA)
AnQuan Boldin WR
Paul Kruger OLB
Dannell Ellerbe ILB
Ed Reed FS
Cary Williams CB

Additions
Chris Canty DT
Marcus Spears DT
Michael Huff FS
Elvis Dumervil OLB
Rolando McClain ILB

Did we sign only guys that were cut?? If so, this is freaking genius!!! That won't count against us getting comp picks next year! Ellerbe, Reed, Kruger, and Boldin will probably net us some good ones! Ozzie!!!!

Wonder what # hes going to be ?
I'll take a guess and say #51. No particular reason. Just seems fitting.

I'm going with #54 but that depends on if Adrian Hamilton will let him buy it off of him.. Rolando has a personality where he really doesn't care what number he wears so sadly he will probably get #51 or #59 which I'm not a fan of either.

$700K

Ozzie must gave him the talk that if you want to stay in the league, then join us from little more than rookie value.

Okay, I think the dude is a nutjob, but $700k is basically nothing. I can't be mad at that at all. Hope he's as hungry as he says he is, this might be his last shot so I hope he uses that as incentive to produce.

Also, I really think we're gonna take Keenan Allen or DeAndre Hopkins in the first.

This sounds like a good deal for the Ravens. He is young and after one year if he performs the team have an opportunity to keep him.

Great signing for the price.

Hopefully he keeps his head on straight. He has always played the run well and been a solid pass rusher for an interior Linebacker.

If he improves on his coverage a bit this could be the equivalent of an additional 1st round pick this season due to how young he is.

If Arthur Brown is there, I believe we pull the trigger. Otherwise, I am seriously starting to think Keenan Allen may be an option. I would love to do what we did last year and trade back to the early 2nd and get him while picking up our third 4th round pick. I'm putting up a mock later that will probably involve this move for Allen.

WIth rolando, i believe he will start at mike. and I like josh bynes at the will spot. Bynes showed nice spot duty and is arguably our most athletic inside linebacker. With some more coaching and bulking up, he would be a bigger and quicker ellerbe.

AND this signing and huff might show the franchise's devalue of positions like inside linebacker and safety as secondary defensive positions to dt, olb, and cb because it seems the franchise is trying to draft wide receiver to give us a DREAM offense led by the highest-paid player in the league.

It is really apparent with how this draft is setting up and the abundance of wr prospects in the early 2nd(where we will end up). In fact, im predicting we get 2 fairly high second round picks.IN OZZIE WE TRUST

Not to derail the thread, but I really really want Keenan Allen. I think his pro day performance dropped him a bit and put him into the 32 range, possibly even early 2nd.

2011 Stats - 99 Tackles - 5 Sacks - 13 PD

People think he's too slow to play coverage, but his size helps him to play in zone coverage.

Headcase and all, but he had a promising career in 2011, but went south last year.

Maybe Harbaugh can straighten him out. I know Ozzie won't bring a bum with Harbaugh's consent, but Harbaugh helped Ellerbe to mature up and be a better player, so we do have a disciplinary coach.

We can call our linebacking corps Die Hard 2 Sizzle & Doom. Wow 700k? That's ridiculous.

Nigel Carr is far and away the most "athletic" inside linebacker on this team but that's kind of irrelevant because you are right, Bynes is still a solid athlete and an up and comer. To think.. Baltimore's starters on the inside could potentially be from rivals. It's all about the black and purple, now.

Brandon Weeden had already started elementary school when Rolando was born.

I am with you on this actually. He clearly struggles in that facet of the game but I actually believe he is better in coverage than Ray has been the last couple years. The good part about it is that we can mask his coverage problems a lot better in our defense then Oakland could in their 4-3.

Maybe Michael Huff gave some insider information about McClain. If McClain was unsalvageable, then we wouldn't do this. I guess McClain is not the troublemaker the media perceive him as, but more of a troubled young man looking for a chance.

However, we won't know everything because he still could get cut by training camp.

Great move by both parties. Rolando can jump start his career with one of the top organizations in the NFL! SMART ! Low one year deal with the Ravens can quite possibly net him tens of millions in his next conntract deal. Only 23 years young. Our coaching staff WILL teach him the basics of coverage. Ozzie the Wizzard again and again.

Don't forget he played in 4-3 scheme in Oakland which does not fit his skillset. he was a stud in saban's defense, which is the carbon copy of our defense. As a 3-4 inside linebacker he will cover less ground and will be depended upon more to attack the run, his strength.

The idea of him being out of the league is outrageous because teams were interested in him at a discount. He just chose us because of history(which is pretty good for being a 16 year old franchise) and current talent. He knew he could shine here and I think he will.

You think we'd trade back even with 12 draft picks already?

It's cool seeing free agents that are attracted to the Ravens tradition of winning. I think this offseason has really showed that. (Not just because of this recent move).

Yeah, I could see us trading down from the first to the early 2nd to gain maybe an early 4th and then trading back up from the #32 pick in the 2nd round to the middle to high 2nd to get a solid guy like Jonathan Cyprien, Matt Elam, Terron Armstead, Menelik Watson or maybe even someone like Jesse Williams. We can still grab a 1st round talent in Allen at the beginning of the 2nd and still only lose a 5th essentially (I would predict trading our 2nd, 4th, and a 5th) when moving up to get another boarderline 1st round talent.

I would. Trading back, usually, has more to do with acquiring more picks where the the value players are. The goal of trading back isn't always to acquire more picks.

With this signing, I bet every other team knows they have to get a WR before the 32nd spot.

It would suck if Allen, Austin, Patterson, Hunter, Hopkins, and even Wood are all gone by the 32nd pick.

I would be happy if we settled with Patton, Wheaton, Rogers, or Williams.

I like Patton because he can make separation with his route running.

I like Wheaton because he can use his quickness to make separation.

I like Rogers because he can use his size to make contested catches.

One of the players that might have all three of these traits could be Keenan Allen with 15 more pounds.

McClain is probably our biggest and most talented ILB of our LB Corps.

He may not be a 3-down LB, but neither was Ray Lewis last year. He still has all the tools to develop as a complete ILB.

-----Dumervil -- R. McClain -- J. McClain -- Suggs --------

looking good...

Trading back always involves more picks unless you think you can get the guy you want in the 2nd round for less money. I Don't think we trade back this year but like anybody I could be wrong considering I am not Ozzie. 12 picks is enough to find a diamond or 2. 10 picks plus a prospected diamond still gives you a diamond or 2 with higher probability. Im on the side of thinking we move up this year.
