[News] Report: Rolando McClain Says He’s Signing 1-Year Deal With Ravens

339 posts in this topic

An edgy "diamond in the rough"!

If he's still a knucklehead, fellow 'Tide Alum, Ozzie will read him the "riot act",... Ngata and T-Sizzle will go upside his head!

If he comes in at 23 years old with skills, a chip on his shoulder, something to prove and is "teachable" this may be the Wiz's acquisition of the year!

Yes I knew this was going to happen I think Ro has a lot to prove. Coming to BMore he will clean up his act because of his situation. He has leaders around him and an incredible organization. Now we can draft three players who I've always wanted 1. Keenan Allen WR Cal http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-pro-comparison/0ap2000000154760/Keenan-Allen-pro-comparison at 32 if he's there. After his pro day I think he has a chance to be there. In the second round DJ Swearinger SS South Carolina http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5RtgFMV0Cs. In the 3rd or 4th RD Tyrann Mathieu CB LSU http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000154678/article/tyrann-mathieu-aces-lsu-proday-workout.

Good move. I'm sure our locker room can handle the guy.
He has something to prove and it's only a year. We'll still look to the draft to find another prospect but we probably won't use as high a pick on one now.
I'll tell ya,
watching these guys in the back office do their thing Is almost as fun as watching a game (in slow mo!) :-)

I'm optimistic about this. The Ravens were successful in taking Texan cast-offs and turning them into pro bowlers. I think they'll be able to do the same or better with former Raiders. Even Randy Moss learned to not take every play off once he left that organization. I think Suggs, Ngata and Dumervil will inspire focus in this guy.

First and foremost:
Lets all hope that he has his head screwed on right- and is going in the right direction.

If nothing else, I love that this means we don't have to go ILB if we aren't in love with the options. Makes it all the more reason to go WR, LT or S early, and then expect to draft the next big sensation at LB next year if that's how it shakes out.

In the absence of the What's Going on Around AFC North - Steelers might lose Emmanuel Sanders. Not sure how I feel about it since they would lose him to the Pats. Probably not a real big deal since both Tom and Ben are on the decline...or at least flatlining. I guess it's all good in the end because that means one more hole that Steel City would have to fill. Wonder how it shakes down since they don't have a lot of cap space...

Another Raider that underachieved is joining the Ravens. Hopefully, we can prove that their underachieving was organization based and they reach their potential while wearing purple.

I really felt like we were going to bring in an FA ILB before the draft. That leaves us free to select our future ILB without the worry that whoever it is will be required to start on day 1. I didn't know what ILB we were going to take, but felt that Dansby was going to cost more than we'd be willing to part with. So it was down to our FO to determine which of the cheaper options made the most sense. Apparently, we have our answer.

with so many of our holes being filled before the draft you have to think Ozzie is going to trade up this year. We can't replace Boldin with a second round pick after all.

I will say this again ladies and gentlemen:

Stop expecting to have a team of Angels. Nice guys finish last!

Raiders fans are quick to bash Huff and McClain. Look at Charles Woodsons career post Raiders. Sometimes a change of scenery and a stable organization is the best thing to revive your career
[/quote]
They are bashing this guy like crazy out there. If you read their comments you would think that he was the worst ILB to ever play the game. Most comments are about his "horrible cover skills" or his "laziness." Not one person has anything decent to say about him, not one. I think I will stop reading before I start worrying.

They Steelers still have 5 days to match the offer but they are in a tight squeeze. Who says restricted FA's don't get plucked :) He is probably worth a third round pick though.

The young man gave the officer a false name. His head is screwed on right. ROFL.
In all seriousness. great pick up!

I wish they could get him for more than a year. 3 - 4. Next year's cap is going to be harsh.

Ozzie! Before you finalize the contract write McClain must workout with Ray whenever he calls during offseason into the contract!

McClain and McClain in the middle... Add another Bamma product by drafting LB Nicco Johnson in the 3rd and it sounds like a law firm

McClain, McClain and Johnson!

I like it!

So pumped for next season. Our new defense is starting to look pretty awesome. If both McClains can come back and perform to their potential this year this might be one of the best D's we've had in a couple of years.

I was actually against picking him up at first, but now love the move by Ozzie. He will be on a low risk contract for 1 year. If he makes any mistakes we can dump him easily without consequences. But now we have an Alabama alum with great potential and 23 years old with experience in the 3-4. I think he can excel in the Ravens defense and definitely help the run defense. If he really is such a liabilty we can take him out on 3rd down/nickel packages. But there are ex-teammates from both college and the Raiders in the Ravens family now, and if really was such a cancer than they wouldn't have vouched for him. Low risk, high reward...another pick up of a guy that was cut not affecting comp picks for next year. It's my bet that he was unhappy having to go all the way to Oakland and play in a 4-3, and like many 21/22 year olds made mistake (his worse than the norm), but let's just hope he can resurrect his ability that warranted an 8th overall pick and get his act together off the field.

That being said... don't think that the Ravens think they are now set at MLB. The 2 McClains are still both question marks, so don't be surprised if they draft one early.

Breaking Newe. Ozzie will be arrested by the beginning of the season for multiple offenses of stealing and he will also be charged with killing it!!!

I think this is good for us and McClain. He didn't fit in Oakland, heck nobody does. He likes playing a 3-4. He is around a better organization that should help keep his head on straight. I think he will realize that if he messes up again, his career could be over. I think his potential will come out this year. Its good for us because its a low risk high reward. He obviously has some potential if we want him. Hopefully it turns out great for both ends.

McPhee Canty Ngata
Dumerville R McClain Upshaw Suggs
Webb Jimmy
Huff Ihedigbo

Cody, Kemo, Spears, J. McClain, Bynes, D. Tyson B Hall, C.Graham, C Johnson, Asa, Christian Thompson

We have an unbeleiveable front 7 before teh draft- I think that when T, WR, CB and S may look like a higher priority then even LB right now?

One 1 yr deal...23 years old...alot of talent especially with this coaching staff behind him. Right player right price....Ozzie strikes again. At minimal this gives one of the ILB's we draft this year a chance to grow.....sounds just like Upshaw last year. This FO is amazing.Zero risk with a chance at a ton of reward.

What can you say? Ozzie has plugged all the holes and is roster deep in talent. Way to go Ravens. The draft will now be a lot of fun as Oz waves his wand.

The thing that your Bowmans, Lees and Spikes' have in common is coaching and development.

The question isn't just whether Rolando was a bust. It's also whether Oakland has a good development regime in place and good coaching and defensive playcalling?

Oz isn't the only one calling the shots. The coaches see potential in an athletic 6' 4" 259MLB who was likely misused by a crappy team.

If anyone doubts why it's just a 1 year deal, and what the off-field issues were that lead a team like Oakland to release this kid, the video is on youtube for everyone to see.

He's clearly got anger management issues. Mercilessly beating the crap outta some punk kid. It puts a bad taste in your mouth to see that.

But I suppose we're as good a team as any to redeem yourself.

The major difference between all the other guys that this guy listed is they are on decent teams with good coachs, Oakland not so much.
