Redskins and other Native American sports teams

Saw this on CNN. I thought it was an interesting read. Is it possible the Redskins will have to change their name someday?

If a sports teams name has more value than a group of peoples culture then I am rather confused..I hope the name changes happen sooner rather than later

This should have happened years ago, imagine a team called the "Whiteskins" or "Blackskins" with a matching racist caricature.

It'll happen sooner or later. Other teams have changed similar names. It's almost embarrassing that it's been allowed to persist for so long.

There's a lot of things you can use besides a term for a native American. I see clearly where they are coming from.

Remake The Replacements and call them the Washington Sentinels. You have your marketing right there.

I think the indignation, a lot of it from the media feigned by my estimation, is unjustified and a result of society becoming far to politically incorrect. Additionally, the Redskins are one of the older franchises, and if they have to change they will demand the Chiefs do as well I reckon, which is another old franchise. People would be very upset by this, but overall it's probably good to do it. Redskins isn't the same as using a warrior reference or what-have you from the culture, that actually is a racist term.

Whatever ultimately happens, I doubt Florida State will ever have to change their mascot. The Seminole tribe has long running ties with the university and endorses the use.

Indeed. I could care less if there was a team called "The Alabama Albinos" or "The Carolina Crackers". I would probably be too busy laughing at those ignorant people than to be offended. I won't get political here, though. At least not in expressing my views outside of what's already been said.

Also, as for an alternative, how about the Washington Weasels? I personally like the ring it has & find it fitting.
