Joe Flacco to play Johnny Unitas in upcoming film "Unitas We Stand"

This is great for Joe and Baltimore as well. It would have been such a slap in the face to have Peyton Manning play this role. It's nice to see Joe starting to get noticed more. Can't wait to see the movie.

As for Joe's commercials, get used to it because you'll see more and more of them. I suspect his performances to get better the better the production is. The more commercials he does the more comfortable he'll get.

As for the hater's let them hate, it won't change anything. I hate how the media acts as if the NFL won't be as good if Brady and Manning aren't playing each other, but it doesn't change anything. They still love those two at all cost. People hate Flacco, it's perfect because they hate the Ravens and us as a fan base and all of us could careless.
True. It's as if Brady VS Manning wasn't decided years ago to them.

Mothers is worse. I've seen better acting from cardboard cut outs. The 1st mariner commercial is funny to me. Hut hut Pizza Hut was pretty bad too.

The hate for Joe is past ridiculous. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/unitas-family-upset-flacco-johnny-203039654--nfl.html

Flacco can never catch a break. Thought winning SB MVP would do it. Apparently that's not a big deal anymore.

Flacco should give Eli a call, ask him how he dealt with it.

Wait, the guy was at best a junior QB at Villanova. LOL. Somebody's jealous.
Super jealous and scrub status. Unitas' son is on board and loves Flacco. The grandson is QQing

I don't get why so many people are whining so hard on this. It's a small budget film that no one would have heard about if Flacco wasn't a part of it. It's only a story because it's Flacco. Would it be equally outrageous if it was a stunt-guy throwing the ball rather than a professional QB? Get over it, people...
The movie might not even be made, they don't even currently have a budget for it. Flacco is just a fun guy to pile on for whatever reason. It gets old.

Flacco for reasons unknown will never be respected by half of all football fans. It's ridiculous how up in arms some people are about a Superbowl winning QB playing Unitas behind a helmet at the end of a movie. Like that is disrespectful to his legacy or something? I think Unitas would be honored to have Flacco play him, and would probably puke if Peyton Manning did it.
The reasons are pretty known. Flacco is a terrible fantasy football QB. People prefer guys like Ryan and Stafford who have never won any significant but can win them Yahoo Fantasy Challenges.

Well, people except for teams of SB-winning QBs, of course. Like I said, this is Eli vs. say, a Phillip Rivers part 2.

It's times like these that I wish I had a "destroy the entire sports media" button.

And Fantasy Football can go to hell as well. If all these people care about are individual stats they should try sticking to Madden or a different sport.

I think it has more to do with how suggestible people are. Insecure with their own thoughts so they just think whatever the media and other people tell them to think.
Yeah, that too. After all, Romo is a great fantasy QB (and a good real-life QB despite some of his chokes), but some people act like he's the worst QB in the NFL.

Reality is, he actually has a better playoff winning percentage than Matt Ryan, who is supposedly "near-elite," while Romo is garbage. Okay.

The media decides who they like early. Those who are liked continually get passes, while those who aren't continue to have the goalposts shifted.

Now some people are waiting for Eli to win a third SB before they're convinced he's a good QB. That's how dumb it is.

Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Sam Bradford = anointed early

Joe Flacco, Eli Manning = earned
Add Peyton Manning to the anointed list (not that Peyton isn't great, but if any other QB had a 9-11 playoff record...). Might as well add Andrew Luck and RG3 while you're at it.

I can already tell Russell Wilson will be a guy who has to earn it.

True. Guys like Brady and Rodgers broke through the disrespect thing by winning. Not the same for Joe, apparently.
Brady was never disrespected. He immediately became the golden child after that '01 SB win (back when everyone loved the Pats...seems like ages ago lol).

Rodgers got a lot of sympathy because Favre was a toolshed.

I wasn't a football fan back in the early 2000s so I honestly can't speak to it, thanks for the insight.

Rodgers was under fire, though. People were clamoring for Favre, he had to live up to the legend, the whole media circus, and the Packers went 6-10 that year. Rodgers played well because he's a great QB but he wasn't accepted until a year or two later.
Well to Rodgers credit, he's the best player in football. It's very, very hard to discredit him. But that also adds credence to the "if you're not good for fantasy, you're nothing" argument. Rodgers is great for real-life AND fantasy football. Hard to hate on him at any level.

Joe Unitas on Joe Flacco playing his father:
"Obviously, the Baltimore ties are very important to me," Joe Unitas said. "I think it's great that Joe just won the Super Bowl with the Ravens and was Most Valuable Player in the game. A lot of the way Joe plays and his demeanor reminds me a lot of my dad. He's not a rah-rah guy. He throws a touchdown and maybe there's a little fist pump. He understands his job is all about winning and he does a phenomenal job leading the offense and the team and obviously they've developed a lot of trust after becoming a champion. He's an awesome teammate and great leader of the team."
I think he gets his fantasy respect next year. Eli had to win 2 to earn his due. Remember they still questioned him after his first ring as well. Personally I hope the media never likes him and he just continuea to imrpove so he keeps that chip on his shoulder. Next years team will surprise the media.
Agree with all these posts. My sentiments exactly.

Rodgers is great - whether it's Fantasy football, or on or off the field.

Too many people put too much consensus in fantasy/stats. People forget that the reason stats are even slightly significant is because the ultimate aim is to WIN. As in, based on the logic that good stats = you probably won. Where in the past, this was probably the case- now, not so much.

I know why they got Joe to play Johnny. I just wish they went with a different QB. I hope this doesn't distract Joe or throw off chemistry.
