Did Ravens Attend Orioles Opening Day?

59 posts in this topic

I'm a fan of both the Ravens & O's. Although I spend all my entertainment $$$ on the Ravens. I'm content to watch the O's on TV or listen on the radio. Only the Ravens and O's know what is said between the two organizations. But as a fan it would have been nice to see a Raven throw out the 1st pitch. I can't believe all 53 players were out of state.

I don't think there is much bad blood at all. All the evidence of bad blood is circumstantial speculations based on things like attendance or what the media tends to cook up.

No, you can't measure support on attendance anymore than you can measure how strong a fan is by how long they have been a fan.

Again where is the evidence? Better yet Where's the Beef?
just look at the Cowboys, they are #1 in attendance. During the MNF game against the bears last season, the cowboys home crowd sounded like a ghost town.

Skipped the part about the Orioles planning on honoring the Ravens before the game...

I would have liked to see the team there, or at least some of the team members. They can't all be busy, like, even David Reed?

It is possible that there are a few Ravens who are not baseball fans. I do not remember ALL the Orioles attending the SB last year.

Not a baseball fan either, could really care less. For me, baseball just isn't that interesting. It kind if bothers me because Os fans get all up in arms, and think everything is a slight against them. I wore one of my purple Ravens shirts yesterday (yes I do purple friday year round) and I had at least 10 people say to me " your wearing the wrong colors". "Its opening day, broh!!!"
No, I'm not... I'm a Ravens fan, can't quite let go!!!!! So why even say anything?
Lmao really? Most Ravens fans are like that too!
Besides, I think the players would like to get a tough road trip out of the way in the first week. That gives them essentially unlimited preparation and we'll be healthy. I'd rather face Denver in week 1 instead of on a short week of rest after a game like Pitt where we're still licking our wounds.

It just sucks that the city misses out on the exposure and revenue of hosting the NFL Season Opener. Baltimore has beautiful sights and it's a shame the rest of the country misses out on seeing what the city has to offer.

I think it was intentional. Maybe there's more to this situation than we know. It's well known that Angelos doesn't like the Ravens after they left MASN.
I think they're still gonna have all the pregame festivities here, but it seems pretty lame without the game.
I highly doubt they'd have all the concerts and pregame stuff in Baltimore and then play the game half way across the country (I'm almost certain that the game will be in Denver).

Besides, the city has the Grand Prix around Labor Day so I don't know if logistically they could host both so close together.

That's the thing. There were Ravens players there as well as Ravens staff and personnel. It was whoever they personally invited that didn't make it. And the Orioles are not releasing who they asked. But like I said, you can almost guess who they would invite based on name recognition. Three of those guys are most definitely not in Baltimore (Torrey Smith, Ray Rice and Ladarius Webb are all in Barbados). I know Terrell Suggs is all over the place for his movie company. Dunno where Flacco is, but somewhere I saw that he was away on vacation with family. That leaves probably Haloti Ngata ... maybe Yanda? Oher? McKinnie and Pitta are recognizable, but neither of them are Ravens right now. I thought I read that Harbaugh is out of the country with his family on vacation.

So yea .. I could believe that the few they invited couldn't make it.

Here's a bunch of concerts and festivities to celebrate the start of the season and your Super Bowl victory ... now go watch the game on TV..

So it's silly to call out Baltimore fans who have joined in with the media and fans of other teams to splash a little more mud on the Ravens organization for no reason and without knowing a thing that was going on? OK.

Dude ... the media isn't spinning my mind. The media does what the media does. How often have they tried to kick dirt in the face of the Ravens over the years. That's nothing new. I will admit I may be a bit more wound up at Ravens/Orioles fans right now because this has been ongoing since Flacco signed his contract.

It's just getting old going to a sports site and watching supposed Ravens/Orioles fans bash the Ravens like a Steelers or Browns fans would. It's just one thing after another and when Baltimore fans pour gasoline on the fire, it just gives the stupid stuff more credibility than if it's just people who don't really follow the team(s). Is it really so much to ask that fans of Baltimore teams take a second to think before they post some stupid theory they have against their own teams ....... wait, it's the internet .. of course that's too much to ask.

I hate baseball, I can count on 1 hand the amount of games I've been to since I was 13. I am still Annoyed about the schedule but you can fault these guys who have 1 more week off for not going to the game, and in Kevin Byrnes blog he said about 100 people from the Ravens family would be there.
Any wasn't the game a sellout?

This is a RAVENS centric board I am pretty sure me and Grim Coconut are the only ones that don't like baseball. Why should I become a fan of something I haven't liked in over 30 years because the team becomes relevant? Heck if they asked Flacco did I not read somewhere they cut his brother? I wouldn't go either lol
Flacco's brother played 1st base for the Frederick Keys, which are affiliated with the Orioles, and yeah, apparently he was. Wore my Flacco jersey to a few Keys games last year hoping big brother might show up and sign it. lol

I think there's a pretty big difference between "all" of the Orioles paying thousands of dollars to go thousands of miles away to the Super Bowl and some Ravens showing up to a game where a ticket costs up to like $150.

And I don't really know if not being a baseball fan is a good excuse to not support your cities other athletes.

In the end I think this is a non issue - because it doesn't really matter. Just would have been nice for some of our stars to go out on the field and be recognized by the O's and their fan base.

I'm pretty sure he was traded to one of Boston's affiliates and then he retired.

Yeah, there is a difference between the two. The SB is potentially a once in a lifetime event, where as baseball plays 162 games every year. So the opening game happened to fall during the Ravens "vacation" period. They should make special arrangements to make one particular game? As baseball players, particularly the stars, are very well paid, the cost is irrelevant.

And just because they are athletes themselves they should spend a valuable day doing something that they may not enjoy? Myself, I do not do things that I do not enjoy, to expect different of them would be foolish. Time is a valuable commodity, so I do know that not being a baseball fan is a very good reason not to waste your time going to a game.(I like baseball personally but understand others may not)

I also consider it a non-issue, since many of the players plainly said they do not care where the opening NFL game is played (so they are obviously not holding that against anyone, much less the Os) and the organization did support the Orioles last year as many players attended numerous games when their schedules did not conflict.

You're from New York? How are you a Raven's fan? Is there no locality loyalty? Although I understand why you would never be a Jets fan.

Harbaugh was in Orlando, and the rest of the main characters were in the Caribbean. I don't see an issue with not having them there. They'll probably have an opportunity later this summer to have a "Ravens night", where a lot of them will probably show up.

I've got a friend from high school who is a lifelong Orioles fan...and Redskins fan. I'm sure the Orioles fanbase skews a little more towards Redskins fans. My friend and I are late 70's babies so if the Colts skip town in '82, there's going to be a lot of peeps like himself ----> Redskins. Ravens are back in '96 so they are popular amongst the high school and some college kids. People older than us late 70's kids are likely to be Baltimore fans once Modell brings the team back.

Point is, the story is fodder for that population that didn't grow up with football in Baltimore, but rather football AND Superbowls with the Redskins. Of course that story will make airwaves
