Rolando McClain to sign with Ravens?

414 posts in this topic

of his release from the Oakland Raiders. It's time Ozzie.. I know some of you don't agree but I do not think there is a better fit in the NFL than the Ravens and the Steelers. I feel like on of these two teams will pick him up.. I just hope its us on a small, incentives based contract that is low risk.

he needs to clear waivers and then see... heard browns might have a go at him and they got better cap... two downs only anyway, good vs the run but stinks in coverage

Does McClain's good quality's outweigh his bad? I don't know, I really don't. And usually if you have to think about that, its not a good sign

You have a good player in the wrong scheme on a losing team. It's not like he is taking up space considering we have only one MLB with significant playing experience (or any at all) and he is coming off a serious back injury.

I would sign him and anyone saying we shouldn't is making a dumb mistake. He will only be 24 by the time the season starts. What do we have to lose?

Rotoworld's opinion. Says he can only stop the run and struggles in coverage. But he is 24 like you said. Plenty of time to learn.

Realistically, the Raiders are the worst organization in the NFL. So it would definitely help to be in a more stable situation for him. Now Rotoworld said McClain was owed 4 million this year, and 5 million next year. How much would he cost 1year/4 million?

Here's the thing, linebackers become better when the defensive line is doing their job taking up the blocker freeing up the linebackers. McClain really didn't have that support in Oakland. IF he came here, not only would he be a better fit because he was a 3-4 ILB trying to play 4-3 ILB, but with our defensive line improvements, he could very well shine. Plus as someone said, maybe he didn't get the proper coaching in Oakland, and we know how great our coaching staff is.

Alex Smith showed that a change of the coaching staff can be beneficial when Jim came to San Fran, maybe McClain needs that coaching staff that will be able to get the most out of him as a player.

You can mask a linebacker's coverage problems in a 3-4 much easier than you can in a 4-3. Saban did an incredible job at that at Bama. He will still be exposed, just not as often.

Here we go again. Every time any clown gets released from another team there is someone here that feels we MUST pick him up. He would be the perfect fit. Give it a rest.

Well no way he gets claimed off waivers with his current salary.

That being said...he's a Bama guy, I'm sure Oz will take a look or talk to him at least...see where Ro's head is at. I'm not opposed to him being brought in on a cheap deal, but first sign of trouble...bye bye.

Rolando fits a lot more than some of the guys people list on here. There are A LOT of reasons he would make sense. You need to be a little bit more respectful.

I think this time is different because its an area of need. It's not like he's a RB or OLB. It's fair to discuss how Ro would fit in and if us fans would want him in B-more or not.

There was a reason he was a 8th overall pick at MLB just a few years ago... I'm not saying we should give him the keys to the franchise, but he hasn't been the only guy to leave the Raiders and suddenly revitalize his career. There's a reason they call that place the Black Hole.

True, though they are terrible in many other senses as well. Was he most like overdrafted? Yes, you better believe.

Did he still have the talent to be worth a 1st round pick? Yes.

Has he been hamstrung by being a member of the biggest joke of a franchise in the NFL? Yes sir.

Give him a shot, low risk, high reward and who knows? The worst that can happen is he gets cut again because he really is a nutcase.

Everybody and their brother was saying it was an incredible pick for them because they went with a safer pick instead of their normal tactics. Everyone thought it was a fine pick.. He would still have the same head problems but he would still be a Raider if they hadnt switched from the 3-4 the year they drafted him.

Yeah, sure. You could call it safe. You could also call it completely foolish to take an athletically limited ILB at 8.

He sucks in pass coverage. But he is a talented player. Ran a 4.68 at 6'4. Not a bad time (not great either though).

It was a bad pick (it is Davis who did so). But was more of a bad pick because of his sheer stupidity.
(IK you hate player comparisons but)
Manti Teo is athletically limited, but is football smart like it is nothing to him. Which will make it up for him

McClain is a good athlete with a ten cent head. No brains=ineffective player.

I will say though, I think playing for a real NFL franchise will help him a lot :P

There is no need to respect foolishness. As far as this guy, sure he may very well "make sense". That really isn't the point. It isn't just this one guy. Nearly every time anyone gets released from any team, regardless of how good he may be someone here seems to thinks we need to pick him up. We cant pick them all up.

Look at the forum. It is clogged with threads blubbering about the latest release and how much we need him. How this would finally put the polish on the team. And I realize that in your opinion THIS is THE guy. The one we have all been waiting for. In your opinion.

Realistically we are probably done with free agency until after the draft, unless there is another faulty fax machine mishap. Face the cold horrible reality.

Alright, I'm done with you. You can move along now.. You can't even hold a half way decent conversation. If you looked at my history, I've been advocating for Rolando for some time. It isn't the flavor of the week for me but that's irrelevant at this point. Just move along if this topic bothers you so much. Have a good day, sir.

He was quite impressive in college ball at Alabama. Let's kick the tires and see what falls off.
