Bryan Hall switching to ILB

61 posts in this topic

Interesting choice, but I like it. Apparently Bryan Hall has lost 25 pounds in order to make the switch. The Ravens love him and wanted to find a way to keep on the roster, and DL was not going to happen because of the new guys. In a position with very little depth, it's nice to see an unexpected move that can keep a good player around and fill a need at the same time. Thanks for being a team player, Bryan!

Bryan Hall as in the 6' 296lb DT? Even loosing 25lb would make him a 6' 270 MLB.

Answered my own question lol

I'd link but I'm on mobile. I think it's on the homepage.

It's probably a work in progress, but it's definitely a good start.

It's on the main page and I believe he's in the 260s which would put him on an excellent pace to be ready for training camp as a LB

Jesus Christ, that's a shocker, maybe Cody could slim down and slide back to safety while we are at it. Shouldn't have to worry about getting blown of the snap 20 yards back

To add another note, he's still practice squad eligible as well. If it doesn't work out too well to begin with, he can go back and refine his game to fit the position. If I remember correctly, he played ILB in the preseason for us at his top weight. It wasn't a permanent position but he got some looks there and showed his athleticism.

[/quote]notice how I said shouldn't have to worry. It would still be plausible Myers would get to him get under his pads and take him to the endzone before he's out of his stance at safety....

Holy hell that's crazy. I like it though. Bryan Hall is a quick dude who plays fast and hard. He could make a solid thumper. This is bizarre and bold but I do like it!

After watching this team since becoming a fan around '06, I swear this team excels at moving guys from more "natural" positions to ones that make us as fans scratch our heads. Sometimes it works (Jameel McClain switching from a 4-3 DE in college to a OLB his first year to ILB since) and other times it doesn't (Kruger's '10 season when the team tried to make him a 3 technique DE, a wasted year). Guess we'll see how this one works...

I still think Jimmy Smith would be a beast at Saftey.Look at the way he blew up Crabtree in the Superbowl!!

Does anyone think he will actually play a snap in the regular season?

I'll let you know after training camp...

No way. His tackling is suspect, he is terrible in zone coverage, he's not as good at off-man as he is at press, and he can't flip his hips to save his life. He is an outside cornerback and nothing else.

Jimmy Smith's best quality is his man and press coverage, why the heck would he play safety.

I think I've heard it all now. This will be one interesting story line to follow through TC.

Hopefully his DIRTY flat top stays with him lol.

Yeah, it makes sense. I remember being shocked at how he played when he was playing LB last year. I was like "What?!", lol. He did surprisingly well, though.

Did he really? I don't remember seeing him there. I don't doubt it though.

Yeah, he did. I remember people being puzzled with a defensive tackle playing LB, lol. I think it was the last game we played, IIRC. I could be wrong. I will research it.

Reminds me of Edgar Jones, where we tried him out at TE, OLB, and DE, but I think the team was trying to find ways to get him on the field because he was a hard worker and a good special teamer.

Bryan Hall was very undersized for the D-line, yet we tried him out at DE, DT, 5-Tech, and even NT to see where he stands. Now he's losing weight to try out at ILB, which should fit his height of 6 ft better. To me at this point, he's a special teamer that's trying all the thin positions to get a roster spot. I say god luck to him, but I do like his potential as a Joker LB like what Upshaw is becoming where he lines up all over the field as ILB, OLB, or DE and play. Versatility will be key for him to make the roster.

As others have said, shocking.

If anyone on here would have even suggested this possibility they would be called crazy lol

I think we learned last year that guys need to learn multiple positions to earn a roster spot.
We also learned that heart and work ethic are the intangibles we value most.

I like this move. I'm rootin' for you Bryan!

Smith actually had very good hips, other than that you ate spot on. He isn't safety material.
