Who Is Next To Be Cut?

60 posts in this topic

Depending on how the draft and training camp go, I could possibly see Terrence Cody being cut. We'll have to come out of the draft with a decent NT prospect and we'll need to cement Ngata as a NT, but it is a possibility.

Leach remains a possibility, but I doubt it at this point.

There are not many guys left who are making too much for their talent or are talented enough that you'd really hurt yourself by cutting them.

Leach is the only guy that comes even close to fitting that bill, but he's a major component to our power running game and with all the changes on defense we don't want to shake up our offense any more than trading Boldin has already done.

So basically I don't think we will have any more major cuts, at least until after teh draft as we get closer to training camp.

I heard Flacco may be focusing on his skateboarding career and could get cut before the Dew Tour starts up in Ocean City this year.

Alot of ppl said Leach is next on the chopping block, but I don't think he is cuz he is great at run block and pass protection. He has also improved on his catching ability, so I think he will get restructured or probably his last year......

Cody's not going to be cut because he's cheap. He probably won't be resigned, but he won't be cut.

EDIT: If anyone will get cut it's leach.

Oh man, where do I start? First ya got that bust, that underachiever, that lazy bum we call Flacco. Guy can't hit the broadside of a barn, he always looks like he's contemplating the mysteries of the universe when he should be throwing the ball and to top it off he rode our top five defense to a ridiculous (RIDICULOUS) contract. Then you have Ray 'Fumbellina' Rice. Not only does this guy fumble twice in a playoff game but he has the audacity to curse our football team by disgracing a Terrible Towel! Luckily we had the good sense to get rid of Boldin (what did that guy do, anyway?) and Ed 'Hurdled' Reed. I think we still have to get rid of both Smiths, because let's face it: they're horrible. As long as we keep the most reliable guy on our squad, a Mr. Bryant McKinnie (like y'all didn't know) we'll be fine.

 Just kidding. I would have said Leach but he's still here so we are probably keeping him and we already have the least amount of signed players in the league.

until we need to trim the roster for the beginning of the season, i don't think we might see any more (noticeable) cuts - last one i think was done to cover for the contract we're preparing for pitta and in preparation for the draft class

Actually, I was thinking Cody would be a casualty of training camp cuts, not a victim of the salary cap. I could see him getting pushed off the roster.

That I could see. But he'll last longer than some udfa, certainly.

pop him on the practice squad, ruffle his feathers a bit. Nothing lights a fire under someones buns like a good ol' demotion.

He's in the last year of his deal. No money would accelerate since there is none beyond this year.

I'm 99% sure that he can't be put on the practice squad.

Can't be put on the practice squad. He has way more than 9 games of experience.

You can only be on practice squad if you've played for less than 9 games.

At this point, I think we got all the pre-final roster cuts.

We keep Terrence Cody because he's on a make or prove deal and will fight in training before Ozzie makes any decision.

who do you all think deserves to be cut or think might get caught
1. Corey Graham - due to make 2 mil, if they want to plan for the future and start Jimmy Smith a full season AND they draft a good CB early to mid rounds, they might cut Graham. They have Chykie Brown, Asa Jackson who are young players needing more experience and Chris Johnson for depth.

2. Jameel McClain - due to make 3 mil, he's coming back from a spinal injury, hes wasn't that great starting imo anyway...they might just decide to start completely fresh at MLB, draft 1 or 2 LBs, add a veteran like Urlacher/Dansby, and throw in Bynes and McClellen for competition to see if one of them emerge as a good player.

Easy Answers:
Training Camp Plodders like David Mims, Lonyae Miller, D.J. Bryant.

Possible Answers:

Vonta Leach if we land a stud FB like Lonnie Pryor, Tommy Bohanon, Kyle Juszczyk, or Zach Line.

Jameel McClain might be on the chopping block or we might do an injury settlement if we double dip on two ILBs.

Albert McClellan, Josh Bynes, and Nigel Carr are all UDFA dark horses and have to prove their spot on the roster.

We might double dip on ILBs with the mid-round picks like Jon Bostic, A.J. Klein, Michael Mauti, or Jelani Jenkins.

Neither of these guys will go.

Graham is the only sure thing at CB right now. Webb is coming off of injury and Jimmy is still a question mark, although signs are encouraging. McClain is staying for the simple fact that no one else is behind him. Although they played well last year, Bynes and McClellan are still question marks. And it makes no sense to cut McClain in order to sign a much older Dansby.

Terrance Cody probably isn't a starter in the NFL, heck maybe he isn't even a back up, but they aren't going cut him when he is playing on his rookie deal, he is cheaper than signing a equally bad veteran back up.

You have to follow the money and at this point the cut might be a post June 1st designation.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/cap-hit/

Vonta Leach - $1.3M dead money and cap save of $3M

Corey Graham - $600K dead money and cap save of $2M

Jameel McClain - $2.4M dead money and cap save of $800K

These are the possible cuts, but they're good players that I doubt will be cut without a reason.

I think we should see how the draft and rest of FA goes before making conclusions about who is next on the chopping list. Ozzie seems like he learned his lesson from the 2000 season where he will cut players to save cap and to get younger. It's a tough decision, but it's the right decision due to the hard cap that we can't keep everyone and have to move on from declining, but popular players.

Leach probably won't be resigned next year and I won't be surprised if the Ravens use a low round pick on a FB and stash him on the IR or Practice Squad. So a redshirt year under one of the best FB is a good option, but run-heavy scheme with FB seems to be obsolete with the league going into a passing mode.
